Ah, New Year's Eve--arguably the most exciting holiday of the year, at least since I turned 21. Many people like to complain that it's anticlimactic, but I have to disagree. After all, it is the only holiday that everyone in the world celebrates. It's a time of year when people reflect on their mistakes of the past year, as well as the personal flaws they would like to correct, and make a resolution to fix those flaws in the coming year. (Of course, whether those resolutions are kept is an entirely different story.)
A favorite tradition of New Year's Eve is the midnight kiss. Couples will turn to each other, and singles who have found a companion for the night will find their lips locked in a moment of solitary togetherness. It only gets to happen once a year, right?
What do you think of the midnight kiss? Dumb tradition or moment of fun? Would you consider kissing a stranger at midnight just for fun? Did you kiss anyone at midnight this New Year's Eve?

i've never done the midnight kiss of the 6 out of 23 years i've been in a relationship, and the rest of them being single. seems kind of corny to me.
Just so you know, not "everyone in the world" celebrates New Year's, and not everyone celebrates it on the same day, either.
I only started doing the New Year's kiss on the second New Year's I celebrated with my boyfriend (because we hadn't been seeing each other that long so we didn't spend the first one together. It was more of a family thing.) Now we only do it because we can. But I've never actually celebrated New Year's anywhere other than my house with my family, so I've never wanted or needed to kiss a stranger. Especially if you just met that person, it's probably a bad idea. I don't get the whole dating scene though, since I have never and will never be a part of it. Maybe that's just me. But either way, I will never kiss a stranger. If I haven't known you at least a week or two, I probably won't even hug you. I don't really like to meet new people.

New Years Eve is just another day to me. I didn't see my boyfriend because we're long distance and we both had to work.
its cute :) stranger or couples. it unites everyone in the world, just for a moment :)
it's just a silly fun romantic thing to do... This year was the first year I was able to do it (first new years with a girlfriend), so I did. I might kiss a stranger if they were down with it, but since my social skillz are worthless, that hasn't happened in the past.
stayed home this ny eve, but i confess that i have stood next to a stranger worth kissing on one or two ny eves. the randomness of it is kind of a thrill for me.
I would only have a NY kiss if it was with someone special, otherwise it's just another kiss with another dildo, and this one is only day.
a great way to welcome the new year. but it's definitely better if it's with someone you know will there be there for you for the rest of your life.
actually, i've had pretty bad luck with this. my embarrassing secret.
@f5ye_angel5@xanga - i might argue that you *never* know if someone will actually fulfill that statement. the best you can (maybe) do is believe that they mean it at the time they say it.
This was my first year doing the midnight kiss, since I finally rung in the New Year while in a relationship. It was nice (especially because we were at a party with his friends and it was the first time I got to kiss him since we got there earlier).
Midnight kisses are nice. I missed mine this year, my boyfriend got a little too drunk. XD
I was drunk and kissed my ex, and now her and me are confused as to whether we're back together or not...
I kissed my spouse and I like this tradition.. As far as kissing a stranger?? probably not since I'm in a committed relationship.
But a hug?? I do like hugs.
I'd always romanticized the midnight kiss back when I was single, because to me a kiss was something as special-occasion as putting on pretty dress and dancing. Now that I've been in a relationship for four years, my fiancee is pretty adamant about making sure that I get kissed on New Year's Eve, even when I'm working, and totally not glamorous, up to my elbows in tacos for drunken idiots.
