Five Smartphone Apps That Will Significantly Improve Your Long Distance Relationship
For those of us in long distance relationships, we know that no matter how much you love your SO, sometimes it's just not the same as spending every day together. After my boyfriend and I decided to attend different colleges and stay in a relationship, I did some major detective work in the iPhone App Store. My boyfriend doesn't have a Facebook, so I was even more eager to find new ways for us to be able to just say hi.
Not that the buzz of my phone after receiving a text from him isn't exciting, but it doesn't compare to the honk from his car waiting outside my house. So, are you in a long distance relationship? Or, are you looking for ways to make your mundane relationship more exciting through technology? If so, listen up! Here are five smartphone apps that will significantly improve your LDR-- or spice up any relationship in need!1. Pair: In this unique app, you and your SO will be able to communicate solely with each other. After "pairing up," the app opens to your conversation, also known as your "timeline." On your timeline, you can do much more than just send messages. The 8 functions include sending drawings that you've created, a live drawing board where you can both draw on the same screen (great for tic-tac-toe!), a "locations" button so you can keep your SO posted on where you are, and a thumb kiss function. The thumb kiss function instructs you to press and hold your thumb down somewhere on the screen, and it will pop up on your SO's screen so that they can push their thumb down on yours and kiss you back! The screen turns red and vibrates. Okay, so it's not the same as a real kiss, but I'd assert that it's the closest you're gonna get!
2. WeChat: This is great for couples who are living in different countries. Studying abroad and worrying about how to text your SO without racking up a ridiculously expensive bill? Fret no more. This app allows you to text for free whenever you have wifi from anywhere in the world!3. Snapchat: Although this isn't solely an app for members of long distance relationships, I have found it to be a fun way of keeping in touch. Essentially, you take a snapshot (most often of yourself), and send it to a friend. They are notified, and must press and hold the alert to view the picture. Here's the catch: they can only view the picture for a number of seconds which you determine!
4. Tango: Functioning similarly to WeChat, Tango allows you to talk on your smartphone for free from anywhere in the world through wifi!
5. Long Distance: Know when you're going to see your SO next? In this app, you can view a countdown displayed next to a picture of you and your lover! Additionally, there is a quote function that provides you with daily quotes to keep you going. Definitely a must have!
Are you in a long distance relationship? If so, what do you do to keep things exciting?

Oh, how I wish these were available for my husband during a 12 month tour in Afghanistan.
Idk, being in a long distance relationship is one way to keep things exciting as opposed to not being in a relationship at all.
Pair sounds really cute!
Bf is in Afghanistan, and we're loving the Pair app! It's fantastic.
these sound cool. now if i just had someone to....
The next time I'm in a relationship, whether it's long distance or the girl next door, I'm writing letters. And I don't mean email, I'm talking snail mail, US Postage type letters. Yeah I am very old fashioned.
I hope I'm never in an LDR. But if I was I'd like to send letters and packages. It means more to me.
I use Skype with my man, and we both have unlimited texts :)
I like Skype... and I just sent this to my goddaughter (her boyfriend just enlisted, she is worried)...
This would have been perfect during the time my now-wife and I were apart. Love the thumb kiss idea... great detective work! No matter the cost, for those in LDRs, it will be invaluable :)
Hope you and yours are able to get together soon :)
I am not in a long term relationship, but I'm still going to download PAIR so my fiance & I can use it when we're apart:) Thanks for sharing!
6. Angry Birds
I loveloveloveLOVE Pair. And the thumbkissing!
I don't have a touchscreen phone. I just chat with my guy on my laptop via text, video or talk for "free" since I already pay for my wifi. I'd have to pay another montly sub free for the phone, which I don't need. I prefer the bigger laptop screen for vid chat. touchscreen typing is very obnoxious-I tried it on my friend's phone. talking is the way to go
the bigger(screen), the better. wide full screen high definition experience as if we're face to face
I give him a stripshow
and we talk to each other for a few hours about our day everyday.
There is this one app, it's good for texting anyone anywhere...one of my best friends lives in England and we text using WhatsApp, instead of using actual text messaging, it uses the internet so no expensive overages! Plus we use Skype and MSN. :)
My Wife and I, were in our 4th year of marriage. Unknowingly, A high school boyfriend of my Wife, contacted her through a social networking site. To make a long story short, He stole my Wife from me. It was very unusually, as she has never done anything like this before. About three months after our separation, I saw a testimony of someone concerning thegreatoracletemple@gmail.com and i contacted him and he assured me that he could help me. Skeptical as I was, at this point, I was willing to try anything. To my amazement, his marriage spell worked. We are back together, and happy again. So if you have similar problem you can contact him via thegreatoracletemple@gmail.com he will help you to solve your problem.....Rakesh
What about Android? :(
I love these! My girlfriend and I aren't in a long distance relationship most of the time, but since we're in college, we are away during breaks and our homes are too far away for frequent visits. I don't know if her phone will load these apps but I'm hoping they will.
By the way, I love this blog. Found it via Google and I can't stop reading your posts!
