We all have things we're not 100% secure with. Whether it be our careers, educational background or relationships. Somehow, there's always room for doubt. How far one will go to put to bed those insecurities, is another story.
I recently watched one of my favorite movies, Brown Sugar, and noticed something that really got me thinking.
In the movie, Andre (played by Taye Diggs), is married to Reese (played by Nicole Ari Parker). They're newlyweds. But before they got married, they had this habit of picking up each others phones and using it for the day. Since they had the same one, it mostly went unnoticed until someone called. It got to be something they'd become accustomed to; no big deal... until one night in the studio when Dre had Reese's phone and received a text from a name he didn't recognize.
Apparently, his now wife, had dinner plans with another man who was confirming their meeting time and location. Curious and livid, Dre--well, you could watch the movie on your own.
A friend and I were recently talking about something similar. Then the topic came up about levels of trust when I asked her, "If you and your boyfriend were to trade phones for a day, would your relationship last?"
She stared at me for a while and contemplated my question. I openly laughed at the endless possibilities of something either going left or right, with such a simple gesture. Then she said, "You know what, yes!"
Her reasoning was, they barely kept any secrets from one another. She trusted him and she'd hope he trusted her to know she had nothing to hide. I understood her response but couldn't help but to think about how sacred phones have become nowadays
You could be in the most committed and trusted relationship and still have something in your phone that you don't want to be seen. A picture, an old text that you never deleted. Anything is possible. It's up to your partner whether or not those things are worth jeopardizing your relationship over. So for those who are in a committed relationship, I ask you the same. If you and your significant other were to trade phones for a day, would your relationship last? Image Source
