I really do believe that the Obama's are the cutest couple in the world of politics and this bit of news I picked up from the
New York Times makes the cockles of my heart purr.
Last Wednesday, a plaque installed on a granite marker was unveiled outside of a Hyde Park shopping center close to couple's home. The significance of this shopping center is that it was once home to the Baskin-Robbins where the First Couple spent their first date, though it has since been converted into a Subway.
President Obama has told the story of how the couple met while working at the same law firm and during an interview with O, the Oprah Magazine back in 2007, he had this to say regarding their first date, "On our first date, I treated her to the finest ice cream Baskin-Robbins had to offer, our dinner table doubling as the curb. I kissed her, and it tasted like chocolate." This sweet recollection is now immortalized on the plaque as well as a picture of the couple kissing.
Of course there is some light controversy surrounding the timing of this plaque with the presidential race heavily underway and while this may very well be a legitimate but cleverly timed tribute to the Obama's, there is nothing to suggest at all one way or another, but this little bit of attention certainly doesn't hurt though one woman was quoted via Twitter, "I think I just threw up a little bit. GAG!"
Cute or gag-evoking? You decide.

I truly believe we have the obamas to thank for bringing love back into this world
i should put up plaques all around my undergrad campus, cause i mean like...some pretty crazy shit went down there.
Apparently they can no longer practice law due to lying on some application. Disbarred? Oh my!
Seriously? With all of the problems in the world, somebody is wasting time/money placing this rock for tourists to take pictures of? I drove by that plaza when I was in Chicago and, of course, heard the story about 30 million times from people that I talked to. I don't get it. I guess I'm just not sentimental enough.
@crashthedr3am@xanga - Are you serious?
@Rebekka Wilkinson@facebook - Thanks for calling out my oversight. I heard the title differently in my head than I had actually typed out and even though I read it over, I still read my typing as "Obamas' First Kiss Immortalized." Haha, thanks again!
Super cute, IMO!
I remember hearing this story, but with a very ironic twist: http://prisonerxofxlove.xanga.com/767431410/chicago-commemorates-site-of-barack--michelles-first-kiss/
i don't know how it would be gag 'evoking' i mean it's not someone's puke or anything. i think it's cute and their family is perfect.
I think its sweet! Plus, its a lovely reminder that they're people, just like us. I love it and I think its lovely :)
Eh. Who cares where they had their first kiss? Seriously? There are more thought provoking places than where our first black presidential family had their first kiss.
It's cute, but at the same time, who cares?
Whatever to that woman on twitter, it's cute
A waste of money, IMO.
@crashthedr3am@xanga - No, we have Romney's Bain Capital to thank for all the love.
If Bain hadn't bought Baskin Robbins parent company it would have gone out of business and Michelle and Barry would have been sittin' lonely on the curb without any ice cream.@Ancient_Scribe@xanga - Thank you for the plug. It's amazing how consumers of mainstream media "news" miss out on all the juicy details!
Adorable.
it is a little of both...
I think it's a sweet thing to do. :) While I don't care to know what his kiss tasted like, it's nice to know that he remembers after so long the details of their first date/kiss. :) Cute.
@AuCinema@xanga - Agreed.
GAG! The Obama worship needs to stop. Where is the monument to the Reagan's first kiss, or the Kennedy's or any other president?
