  • Chick-fil-A: The Gay Debate

Today is one of those days I’m sickened by how Jurassic many Americans views are of homosexuality. How can people be so pathetically closed-minded that they feel the need to go chomp on a mass produced deep-fried chicken wing to express their distaste towards same sex marriage?

The Olympic village’s condom consumption may be the ultimate collision of sex and health, but Chick-fil-A is running a close second. Ever since the fast food chain shook its conservative tail feather, and denounced gay marriage, a nation’s chicken dipper allegiances have been put to the test.

Things started getting hairy at Chick-fil-A when CEO Dan Cathy publically announced his support for the “biblical definition of marriage,” ABCnews reports. Wednesday saw record breaking sales figures at the chain, after Mark Huckabee, a former Arkansas governor, created a Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day on Facebook. Liberals are countering today with National Same Sex Kiss Day, encouraging same-sex couples to go to restaurants, make out, and take photos.

Wendy’s posted Chick-fil-A support signs at restaurants in North and South Carolina, which is just another reason why I would never eat at that shit hole. Wendy's ended up taking down the signs and releasing a, "Oh, actually we like to serve a diverse customer," statement. Maybe their P.R. team realized that gay people like Baconators too.

What’s your take on fast food weighing in on the “biblical definition” of marriage? Should Chick-fil-A stick to frying pretty average chicken and keep their beaks shut, or does free speech reign?

Chick-fil-A can stick to chicken AND engage in free speech.

It's like gays have become these brutish abusive men who smack their wives back into the kitchen for daring to express an opinion.

@IniquitousxAffliction@xanga - I did go to your link and here is what I found:

You care about what you think but you don't care what anyone else thinks unless they think like you.

You are the post girl for intolerance. And that's exactly what gay rights is all about.

  • IniquitousxAffliction@xanga

@PrisonerxOfxLove@xanga - I dislike cruelty. To anyone. And I especially dislike it when it's so blatant. I 100% support gay rights and always will. I had a friend in highschool. He never harmed anyone. He shot himself. He shot himself because he could find no escape from the cruelty of others around him. And I think Chik Fila is wrong, because they support BLATANT cruelty. You can say it's because of faith, okay. You can believe whatever you want. But why not instead be someone to help others instead of hurt them? If they have all that money that they're donating to anti gay funds because of religion.. because they want to ' make a difference' why don't they donate that to people who've been devastated by distasters, the starving, the sick, the homeless. Why don't they build housing for people who would otherwise have no place to go? I think, being a follower of Christ would mean to help. Not to hurt. And Chik fila has hurt, not helped.

All I know is I get more shit when I admit to being Christian than any of my friends get for admitting they are gay.

What point is being made in all this? That we should have freedom? That our asses should be kissed by those who disagree with us? Who fucking knows anymore.

  • PrisonerxOfxLove@xanga

@IniquitousxAffliction@xanga - There is nothing more cruel than gay rights. So you are an advocate for tyranny and cruelty beyond measure.

  • Kuai_le1010@xanga

I really don't care. I love going to Disney world even though they're pro-homosexual and I love Chic-fil-a even though they're not. We're all entitled to our own opinions and whether or not I enjoy something, it will not be defined by someone else...unless the corporation supports things like genocide.

  • sarahsmurfette@xanga

OMG I'm so over this subject, I'm annoyed at myself for clicking this.

But here is my only statement about this subject, and for the record I think people have the right to marry whoever they want, AND I'm a Christian - I just can't see loving someone as being a sin...
    That said...
Truett Cathy made the mistake of stating his personal religious/political view. But that is all he did.
Look at the facts: No one is being discriminated against. Chic Fil A has non-discriminatory employee hiring policies. They don't refuse service to anyone. They make no sermons or other statements to their customers.
He has the right to his personal religion and politics. So do you. If you don't like it, you don't have to go there. Lets be done with it at that.
There is no discrimination. When he refuses to serve someone or to hire someone based on their sexual orientation, then lets talk. Til then?  ...
I'd like to stop seeing this subject every damn where.

scissor me timbers!  all these years later, i STILL can't believe they were allowed to show that scene on tv.

haha but yeah.  i was living in california when prop 8 was a big thing.  i remember some peeps created a map of all businesses that supported the proposition, and the businesses complained that they were losing a significant customer base (lol).  as far as chick-fil-a, what is their record-breaking sale?  all 300 residents of arkansas bought a chicken sandwich one day?  i think you're forgetting that arkansas is a fly-over state.  if this shit went down in an important place, i would see more cause for alarm.

i called this out in 2008 and will say it again 4 years later--we all know it's gonna go to the supreme court and get legalized, so let's all get over it now (homophobes and -philes alike) and move onto something new.  dear conservatives, you have lost your battle yet again.  isn't there a new group we can ostracize now?

  • TheNotoriousGOD@xanga

the bottom line is, the guy has a right to express his business's views as long as he's abiding by all the relevant laws, and people have a right to support that business, just like people have a right to boycott it.  i'm all for promoting liberalism (in most cases), but if i didn't let the conservatives express their views too, i would be kind of a hypocrite.  don't you think?

  • AncoraImparo@xanga

If they didn't donate to a hate group I wouldn't have such an issue.
If they didn't donate to a group that links gays and pedos I wouldn't have such an issue.
if they didn't donate to a group whose spokesperson wants to criminalize homosexuality I wouldn't have such an issue.

    but they do.
so they don't get my monies. no siree

@IniquitousxAffliction@xanga - I'm truly sorry for your loss. that's heartbreaking. i bet he'd be really saddened by the chick fil a support

  • sarahsmurfette@xanga

@AncoraImparo@xanga - Your speech is interesting to me. It is exactly the same as people who boycotted the Susan Komen foundation because of Planned Parenthood.

It seems to me that those on such polar ends of the spectrum have so much in common that they simply repel.

But you have very much in common.

  • bbanmen420@xanga

There are no Chick Fil a's here but if there were.. I wouldn't go anyways, since I dont like Chicken :P But yes, people can have free speach, so what he said wasnt illegal or anything, but IMO it was wrong. People have this mindset also that people have this choice of being gay. If that were true, I'd probably have choosen to be gay at one point, since guys piss me off sometimes :P Anyways, I think gays should have the same rights as straight people... You know, seeing as we are all human.... :/

  • secretbeerreporter@xanga

I think it's time we go to war over the gay issue. Yes, you read that right: WAR. On a worldwide scale.

Peaceful protest and lobbying for LGBT rights apparently hasn't worked and doesn't work. LGBTs aren't treated any better than they were 50 years ago. Sure, gay marriage is legal in some countries (mine included), but it's not good enough.

When this doesn't work, I hate to say it, war is the answer. The LGBT community and its straight allies need to take up arms and be ready to fight to the death for their rights. We need to be crucifying Christians, blowing up Muslims, stoning Jews, etc. (including doing away with atheists who oppose gay rights, which there are some) until everyone that stands in the way of gay rights is vanquished. This make-out day at Chick-Fil-A today? What a joke! It should have been crucify Dan Cathy day. That would get something done.

The LGBT community and us straight allies have been "tolerant" for entirely too long. The time for revolution is NOW. Period, end of story. Alas, this whole nonsense and bullshit brought to you by religion. And it's time we eradicate that too and make atheism the supreme law of the land.
  • sarahsmurfette@xanga

@secretbeerreporter@xanga - Intolerance is the answer to teaching intolerant people tolerance. Sensible.

    Do you hear yourself?

  • Parsimony@xanga

I think anyone in public should be professional enough to keep their personal views from their position.  With the sole exception of Rick Mercer telling public figures to speak up about their own sexual orientation to be a role model to suicidal gay teens.  It seems like a double standard but when you're saving lives it's not.

  • sarahsmurfette@xanga

@secretbeerreporter@xanga - How many times do you change your account, statelesspilot? Done, no matter your response...if there was one.

  • ninetailedevee@xanga

FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT'S HOLY THIS IS NOT ABOUT HIS FUCKING WORDS OMG I JUST CAN'T ANYMORE!

NO FUCKING CARES THAT HE DOESN'T AGREE WITH GAY MARRIAGE! THAT ISN'T THE POINT OF THE BOYCOTT!

-_-;; The man has EVERY RIGHT to voice his opinions. NO ONE IS DISPUTING THAT. The people who are making this an issue of free speech are missing the point completely and it's starting to irritate the fuck out of me. I stopped eating at Chik-Fil-A a few years ago when I found out that they were donating millions of dollars to hate groups that promote violence and discrimination against LGBT people. I could care less what CEO thinks of me or my right to marry but I can't in good conscience give my money to a business that's just going to use it to lobby against my rights and promote genocide in Uganda by supporting the "Kill The Gays" bill. Even if you don't agree with gay marriage or homosexuality you can't deny the fact that as tax paying citizens of the United States we have just as much rights as anyone else but groups like the Family Research Council, Exodus International, and the American Family Association work diligently to deny us those rights even things like protection from job discrimination. THAT IS WHAT THIS IS ABOUT. THAT'S WHAT IT'S ALWAYS BEEN ABOUT.

  • ninetailedevee@xanga

Also just for the record since when did Freedom of Speech mean freedom from criticism? The man has every right to take whatever position he wants but that doesn't mean that others aren't going to have something to say about it. Freedom of Speech goes both ways. You have the right to think I'm an abomination and I have the right to think you are a bigoted asshole.

  • secretbeerreporter@xanga

@sarahsmurfette@xanga - I've had this account since '09. I just never used it to comment as I used it for one specific purpose. Since I no longer drink alcohol, I might as well use it for something else eh?

And yes, I hear myself. People who stand against me and the things I stand for need to be done away with. Period, end of story.
  • sarahsmurfette@xanga

@secretbeerreporter@xanga - If I had a legal way to get you off this site I would. Ethically, I would have no qualms.

  • blowingmoney@xanga

we dont have a chick fil a around here and ive only been there once. that's the only thing i'm mad about

  • secretbeerreporter@xanga

@sarahsmurfette@xanga - Well, whatever. You're nothing but a grain of sand in comparison to me (as is everyone on this site and in this world), so I'm not worried about what you have to say.

  • PinkPinecone@xanga

    I LOVE GAY PEOPLE & I LOVE CHICK-FIL-A!!!!

Their food is delicious & what they believe in doesnt change that. The only thing I am looking for from these people is chicken.
