My boyfriend finds my eyelash curler both terrifying and fascinating. Apparently, this is a sentiment shared by much of the male species.
Women go through a lot of grooming to look the way we do. Waxing, shaving, and tweezing everywhere. Manis and pedis. Hair extensions. Perms. Hair dye. Latisse eyelash treatments. Botox injections, or maybe just those lip-plumpers that sting like crazy.
Sure, men can do a lot of these things, and many do. But the fact is that, in general, these routines are far more complicated for women.
I'm a woman, and have grown up with these various grooming routines as part of the norm. Sure, I hate some, like eyebrow waxing, which hurts and leaves my forehead red for too long. But I do it because I want to look a certain way, i.e. unibrow-free.
But many guys find these rituals hard to understand. Like, for example, the eyelash curler mentioned above.
So my question, directed to the gentlemen, is: what female beauty ritual do you find weird/scary/unrelatable?Image Source

All of them.
i'm a huge fan of it all, except the super intense fake shit like botox or lip injections. if a girl wants to look good for me, who am i to stop her?
oh yeah, also not a big fan of the pubeless phenomenon. somewhere along the line, i decided i'm not into prepubescent girls anymore. maybe i'm in the minority on that one, though.
@TheNotoriousGOD@xanga - yo so many ppl have different preferences on this.... what's a girl supposed to do!
@cindrelle@xanga - haha. it's not a big deal. there are a million more important things to worry about in life. i have a difficult time imagining that anyone actually gives a shit. my ultimate opinion is if it's your body, i'm not going to tell you what to do with it.
p.s. you get my note?
@TheNotoriousGOD@xanga - oh my god, finally. I know too many guys who seem to be into that. As a bisexual girl, it freaks me out. Like you said, it's too pre-pubescent for me. Ew.
Psh. Eyelash curlers aren't scary! I never understood why guys were frightened of them. All you do is press down, it's not like we're pulling out our eyelashes. One of my eyes has wonky lashes that stick straight out, while my other eye's curl. I need that eyelash curler!
First off, the photo is
reallycreeping me out. I am a bit wary of eyelash curlers. I occasionally get my brows waxed and mani/pedis but I usually leave everything alone. If I'm going to a super formal event, I go the whole 9 yards but just for work? No. It won't get me a promotion or anything and nobody sees me all day anyways!
I will never get how eyelash curlers work, I have a pair and have never figured it out. Neither do falsies. Mascara is enough for me.
I love my eyelash curler! Waxing my eyebrows is really no big thing, and I like having them done like maybe once a month, otherwise I just tweeze to keep them looking decent. Love dying my hair different colors, but that would be it. Only other thing I do is I put crap on my eyes. Like shadows, liners, mascara... That would be just about it, though.
@youarethepretender@xanga - I tend to stick to products and things that don't look like they could be used for inflicting pain LOL
@daydreams_nightmares@xanga - @TheNotoriousGOD@xanga - I know what you are talking about, but unfortunately I was put on a medication that caused ALL my hair to fall out, and the stuff down there never came back o.O (btw sorry if that was tmi)@Trueinnerbeauty@lovelyish - don't they make pubic wigs? haha jk. don't worry about the tmi, though. i send (almost) daily reports to my friends about my shitting, beat off sessions, and any action i may have gotten in the recent time period. so tmi isn't really an issue for me.
Eyelash curling looks TERRIFYING.
I'm a girl and my mom's eyelash curler has always freaked me out. I abstain from most of the mentioned beauty routines for one reason or another, making exceptions for special "dressing fancy" occasions. I think the only thing I'd regularly get done if started doing it myself and not having to pay someone at a hair salon is waxing my eyebrows. Every time I get it done, it feels totally worth the pain and $8.
@Trueinnerbeauty@lovelyish - Just throwing out examples :) box dye works too. also, mani/pedis don't have to be professional lol, i get my friends to do it because i'm horrible at them.
@TheNotoriousGOD@xanga - lol I exchange that kind of info with a friend of mine daily :)
as for the pubic wig, there IS a new trend..... a "Carnivale" and "Foxy Bikini"Y'know, it's kind of weird that you brought up eyelash curlers as being terrifying to men. When I was growing up, my dad had a bad problem with his eyelashes growing invertedly and scratching his eye. It started doing that after he got reading glasses, and it would cause eye infections for him. So, he had to use an eyelash curler every morning when he got ready for work. Being the old-fashioned macho guy that he was, he kept it a secret from everyone else at home, and I would keep it in a spot next to my makeup bag under the sink. What seems terrifying to some, is very useful to others. I personally don't do any of that waxing, dyeing, gunking up mumbojumbo, and I look totally feminine.
We all have our own rituals that, in theory, are pretty normal...but if you watch a girl do her whole "getting ready" thing, odds are some of it will be WEIRD.
Should see me bleach my hair. Half naked, coughing and trying to breathe, buncha white toxic shit on my head...
makeup itself is weird enough, what is the point of putting chemicals on ur face that will ruin it?
@Trueinnerbeauty@lovelyish - that's awesome. most girls aren't like that--for the first few things, that is. they're usually unnecessarily open about their action. it's funny, just last night my (guy) friends and i shared a whole bunch of notable blow job stories in front of a female friend of mine. she was the only one who didn't participate. sourpuss.
@sasha - can we have a post on our favorite girls' clothing too? cause i have a lot to say about that.
@TheNotoriousGOD@xanga - lol I am one of those girls who will be like "DAT ASS!" in public places with guy friends, one guy said i'm so guy-like that he thought I was a lesbian. I said, no I just appreciate a fine body
i've never used an eyelash curler. i'm afraid they will rip out all of my eyelashes.
I'm not gunna lie, I just clicked on the link to comment on how creepy the picture is! =P
But I'll put something insightful; http://en.wikisource.org/wiki/Body_Ritual_among_the_Nacirema I read this in high school & it really makes you realize how centered Americans are on vanity.
@Trueinnerbeauty@lovelyish - oh. my. lord. wow.
