In case you haven't heard, trouble is afoot for Twilight's happiest couple. Recent Us Weekly photographs caught Kristen Stewart cheating on boyfriend Robert Pattinson with Rupert Sanders, her director from Snow White and the Huntsman.
Both partners have issued public statements of apology regarding their apparently short-lived affair.
Stewart said, "I am deeply sorry for the hurt and embarrassment I’ve caused to those close to me and everyone this has affected. This momentary indiscretion has jeopardized the most important thing in my life, the person I love and respect the most, Rob. I love him, I love him, I’m so sorry.”
For his part, Sanders said, "I am utterly distraught about the pain I have caused my family. My beautiful wife and heavenly children are all I have in this world. I love them with all my heart. I am praying that we can get through this together."
Sanders has been married for 7 years to model Liberty Ross, who ironically enough played Stewart's mother in Huntsman. The pair have two children aged 7 and 5.
I feel terrible for both Pattinson and Ross, although most of all for Sanders' children. Why would you risk your family for a short fling with a young actress? Such a shame.
But really, I'm interested in what happens next.
I've always considered cheating to be a dealbreaker. Of course, I'm currently in a long-distance relationship, so the rules are a bit different for us. We've decided that making out minus emotional attachments is OK. Anything past that, unless it's for a celebrity exception which is really unlikely, is off-limits.
If we were in a short-distance relationship, though, even that would be grounds for breaking up. Of course, I would have told this to him at the beginning. I don't tolerate cheating, if I consider it cheating. I'd rather you just break up with me. That doesn't matter if it's a one-time thing or a long-term affair. If it happens once, we're over.
It remains to be seen, however, if Pattinson and Ross share my beliefs. People has reported that Pattinson has moved out of the home he shared with Stewart, which suggests a breakup is imminent. Terrible as the situation is, it must be easier than them for Ross, who has the children to consider.
No word yet on what she plans to do. On a Twitter account that she subsequently deleted, Ross wrote first, "Wow," then quoted Marilyn Monroe.
The quote? "Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together."
Doesn't sound promising for Sanders, but who knows?
How would you react if your partner cheated on you? Would your reaction be different depending on the circumstances?
