In 2011, actor Doug Hutchinson married Courtney Stodden. Stodden was 16 and had to have her mother sign a consent form. Hutchinson was 51. The pair's vast age difference caused a lot of uproar. But severe age differences, among other creepy quirks, are surprisingly common with famous people. Here are 5 creepy famous marriages.
1. Edgar Allan Poe Does it surprise anybody that Poe had a creepy marriage? 27-year-old Poe fell in love with his 13-year-old first cousin, who he first met at 7, and married her. Unfortunately, the young bride died at 24, perhaps inspiring some of Poe's darkest and greatest works. Now, I know marriages like this were considered more common in the olden days, and some biographers argue that they may never have consummated their marriage. But I still think it's creepy.
2. Jerry Lee Lewis Like Poe, musician Lewis also married a cousin once removed, Myra Gale Brown. But Poe did it in 1835, and Lewis in 1957. Oh, and Brown was 13 at the time, while Lewis was 22. The marriage was kept secret until discovered by a British reporter, and caused a huge scandal that severely damaged Lewis' career.
3. Woody Allen
Ah, Hollywood's most infamous creepy marriage. Allen was in a long-term relationship with Mia Farrow. So Allen served as a father figure to Farrow's adopted daughter, Soon-Yi Previn. When Soon-Yi was 21, her relationship with 56-year-old Allen turned romantic, and the two are now married. Seriously, Freud would have a field day. (Also, can we talk bout how badly I feel for Farrow? Poor woman.)
4. Celine Dion
Pop star meets manager. Pop star falls in love with and marries manager. Totally normal, right? Except Dion and Angelli met when Dion was 12. Their relationship did begin when Dion was 19. But still, falling in love with someone you knew when she was 12 and you were 38 is pretty creepy.
5. Hulk Hogan In 2010, Hulk Hogan married Jennifer McDaniel, who at 35 was a bit young for the 56-year-old wrestler but not creepily so. Sure, this is a bigger age difference than Poe and Lewis, but McDaniel wasn't a teen. Then the world realized the weird resemblance between McDaniel and Hulk's daughter Brooke and the creepiness factor was way upped.

When I read the title of this post, "5 Incredibly Creepy Famous Marriages" I was expecting to open it up to five famous marriages where the actual ceremony was creepy, like dark and bizarre and eery or even like the very first picture posted above where they're in water.... These are all just five marriages consisting of age differences :| Age differences which you don't particularly like and deem "creepy" even though it's clearly none of your business. Really, if they're happy and in love together, then what should it matter to you? *yawn* This post is pointless...
@surveys_fortheteenageesoul@xanga - I thought the exact same thing. Boo. :[
How did Poe meet his cousin at age 7 when he was 14 years older than her?
@hmm - I think he met her when she was 7, he would have been 21. I was confused when I first saw that, too.
Eh, who cares? Unconventional, maybe, but as long as they're happy, what does it matter?
I don't find the Hulk Hogan thing creepy because Brooke Hogan looks just like her mother, Linda. So therefore Hulk's new wife looks like a younger version of Linda. Hulk obviously has a type.
You should have mentioned the Muslim Prophet Muhammad, who married a 6-year old girl due to the supposed will of Allah when he was around 59. He consummated the marriage when she was 9 years old, which I'm guessing was not her will. Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) also took brides and sex slaves (Jews, Christians, and other non-muslims) directly from conquered lands he battled, sometimes on the very night he and his men murdered their husbands and families.
I dont think Celine Dion's marriage is creepy at all!! At least Rene waited until she was mature to date & marry her ::coughcoughJERRYLEELEWIScoughcough:: & Considering he helped her through a vocal scare, infertility & she supported him through cancer (even putting her uber-successful career on HOLD), I think they're pretty damn solid!!
Are the others a bit odd? Yes I admit to that
In the Mia Farrow and Soon-Yi Previn mother/adopted daughter relationship if they have a relationship anymore, is there 1 thing they probably agree on which is the length and girth of The Woodster's private parts????????
Whether it's a big secret or a little secret they're both in on THAT secret.
Does anybody think that Edgar Allen Poe and his young cousin are the ancestors of Heather Poe, sometimes referred to accidentally as Heather Hoe, Dick Cheney's daughter in law? They must be a very blueblooded American family after all.
(BEING LESBIAN AND REPUBLICAN AT THE SAME TIME....IS THAT CREEPY????????)
Because age differences are so creepy.
@looloo11268@xanga - I second this.
And you just KNOW there's a black, lesbian republican out there somewhere. Sorry, it's a thing my dad says whenever I get frustrated when people have beliefs that conflict with their other beliefs.
@TheCellOfDougMoe@xanga - Only if you're black.
Getting married as a young teen certainly wasn't always odd. Cousins, so what? It wasn't always odd and doesn't bother me anyway. Not my thing but whatever. Age differences do ick me out, though, but to each his/her own. And those, historically speaking, aren't that bazaar either, as far as I know.
I do consider the first two do come as, well, I'm not sure if the word is creepy, but...okay, creepy. Only because I have this doubt that 13-year-old girls were getting married ever unless it was to older men in both of those time frames. They weren't children, but they definitely were not fully developed women.
The last two, not creepy. Just because you knew someone as a child doesn't make it weird that you fall in love with them later as an adult. It's really only as weird as the couple themselves make it. And as someone else said, his g/f looking like Brooke probably has more to do with Brooke looking like her mom and Hogan having a type. If she was Brooke's age, maybe it would be a bit...erk.
And Woody Allen. I reserve judgement because she wasn't really his daughter and he very well could have never actually felt like her father. So it goes back to Celion Dion, that there is nothing creepy in knowing someone as a child and later falling in love with them when they are an adult.
@Shinbi_Belldandy@xanga - I agree with what you said. There's nothing wrong with Celion Dion's marriage. Now for the others it's a different story.
I think creepy is the wrong word?
I think this was a good post. I don't know why people have to be such debbie downers. I liked it. As far as Americans these are pretty out there. In other countries of course it's been a lot worse.
Dude, I am so disturbed that so many people think this is okay "as long as they're happy"...that's stupid. Look, if they're both consenting adults, then yeah, I don't care what the age difference is, none of our business. But thirteen year olds? That's pedophilia, I don't care how you look at it. Man, I swear, some people have some serious perspective issues, no kidding...
@DrummingMediocrity@xanga - Wow. He sounds dreamy. : /
@DrummingMediocrity@xanga - Now that's creepy.
