Nora Ephron passed away last week from a rare blood cancer at the age of 71. Never heard of her? You've definitely heard of her movies. The multitalented writer directed and wrote classic chick flicks like
When Harry Met Sally, You've Got Mail, and
Sleepless in Seattle.
Now, I love chick flicks. I know they're not 'good movies,' per se, like
The Usual Suspects or
The Shawshank Redemption. But chick flicks are exactly what I want in a movie when I need to veg out: funny, light-hearted, and predictable.
Ephron had that rare talent of making a chick flick that was actually a 'good movie.' It was still funny, light-hearted, and predictable, but struck the fine balance that takes the chick flick from cookie-cutter Hollywood to enjoyable for a broader audience (read: guys).
Personally, I prefer my chick flicks on the cookie-cutter side of things. My favorite chick flick is
27 Dresses. Yes, I know it's a terrible movie, but I like it anyway. Still, I appreciate the credibility that Ephron brought to the genre.

When Harry Met Sally. FTW.
I loved You've Got Mail. I could watch it a million times on repeat and never get tired of it. Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan had such great chemistry!
when harry met sally is my favorite! she's genius for writing these rom-coms. RIP
The Notebook
Yes, I love romantic comedies! I liked When Harry Met Sally and Sleepless in Seattle, but You've Got Mail is definitely one of my favorites. You're right, they're not great movies, but they are a wonderful guilty pleasures.
I love Listen to Your Heart for my very serious, dramatic romance movie. It was about a deaf girl falling in love with a musician. It ended sadly but also very good. I cried so much!
My all time favorite comedy chick flick was Serendipity! I watched it on TBS one night and fell asleep, and then months later I found it at BlockBuster. It was like fate, like in the movie :P
You've Got Mail is my favourite :)
Leap Year
Bride Wars
A Walk to Remember
How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days
You've Got Mail. But I think I'm gonna go try and see When Harry me Sally again pretty soon
I never saw any of these movies - but I do love myself a romantic comedy, so I think I'm going to look into them :)
