  • In Honor of the Late Nora Ephron: What's Your Favorite Chick Flick?

Nora Ephron passed away last week from a rare blood cancer at the age of 71. Never heard of her? You've definitely heard of her movies. The multitalented writer directed and wrote classic chick flicks like When Harry Met Sally, You've Got Mail, and Sleepless in Seattle.

Now, I love chick flicks. I know they're not 'good movies,' per se, like The Usual Suspects or The Shawshank Redemption. But chick flicks are exactly what I want in a movie  when I need to veg out: funny, light-hearted, and predictable.

Ephron had that rare talent of making a chick flick that was actually a 'good movie.' It was still funny, light-hearted, and predictable, but struck the fine balance that takes the chick flick from cookie-cutter Hollywood to enjoyable for a broader audience (read: guys).

Personally, I prefer my chick flicks on the cookie-cutter side of things. My favorite chick flick is 27 Dresses. Yes, I know it's a terrible movie, but I like it anyway. Still, I appreciate the credibility that Ephron brought to the genre.

Do you watch chick flicks? What's your favorite?
