This summer is my last summer as a student, which means it's also my last summer vacation. Of course, I'm interning and working, but I've still got a lot of free time and I plan to use it. But New York City is really hot in the summer, so one of the ways I'll cool off is by watching all the movies I keep meaning to watch, like these 7 romantic movies.
1. Celeste and Jesse Forever
Comedians Rashida Jones and Andy Samberg try their hand at dramatic roles in Celeste and Jesse Forever, out in NY and LA July 3rd. Apparently, they were pretty successful, because this film was an official Sundance selection. About a divorcing couple who tries to remain friends, it sounds funny, sad, and beautiful all at the same time.
2. Casablanca
Have you ever watched a movie, loved it, then re-watched it again on dry land and hated it? I don't know what it is about planes. Maybe it's because I'm regularly on 14-hour-flights, so pretty much anything is interesting. But when I saw Casablanca on the plane, I absolutely hated it. I'm hoping that this phenomenon works in reverse, and re-watching Casablanca on dry land will help me understand the appeal of this highly regarded classic.
3. Out Of Sight
Romantic movies aren't all fluff-fluff, like this one about a bank robber who kidnaps a US Marshal, then ends up falling for her. This particular movie was rated by Entertainment Weekly as the sexiest movie of all time, so it's definitely on my summer wish list. The movie also stars George Clooney and Jennifer Lopez in their prime, and both are hot.
4. Rock of Ages
Rock of Ages tells the story of two youngsters who fall in love with Hollywood. It's gotten pretty bad reviews, but it's a musical. I love all musicals, so that's why it's on this list.
5.Nights in Rodanthe
Any movie based on a Nicholas Sparks movie is bound to be at least kind of good, and just watching the trailer almost made me cry. Plus it's the most romantic movie my sister's ever seen, apparently.
6. A Walk To Remember
I didn't know this was based on a Nicholas Sparks novel for a really long time, but based on his track record, I'm really not surprised. This movie is consistently regarded by my friends as the best chick flick they've ever seen. Which, naturally, makes me really want to watch it.
What other romantic movies do you recommend - old or new?
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is probably my all-time favorite romantic movie. I like how it shows a relationship, in its good and bad moments, between two very imperfect, yet lovable characters. And I have a soft spot for The Notebook, too.
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
The first one looks great.
the news anchor's accent on the celeste and jesse movie is annoying. she already ruined the movie for me I'd watch casablanca. the soldiers' uniform @ 0:31 looks hot mr.bogart looks handsome at 1:37 I can't stand george clooney's voice. it isn't sexy at all. a walk to remember looks cute. I can already relate to her because she's a schoolgirl I love mandy moore's "I Wanna Be With You" song if they changed the male actor to gabe saporta, then it would be more irresistible.
A walk to remember remains, till this day, the most powerful movie I have ever watched. Favorite movie of all time!
Chances Are <3
I skipped two vids for some reason. I can't stand those overrated rock songs. I'd rather watch school of rock with jack black-he's so adorable. richard gere is so charming and his voice is so sexy. I'd pick richard gere over james franco and the other guy, who plays her ex-husband in the movie.
Celeste and Jesse Forever looks good. So does Nights in Rodanthe, I've always wanted to see that. Casablanca is a classic! You have to watch it!
A Walk to Remember is my ultimate favorite. Always have been and always will be.
Personally, I wasn't a big fan of Nights in Rodanthe, but maybe that's just me. The Notebook is always a good choice, even if it is slightly overdone.
is it just me, or are there only 6 movies listed?
i'd choose lust, caution. dunno if that qualifies as a "romantic" movie though.
The Princess Bride
*sigh* A Walk to Remember... Best movie ever. Made me go bawling like an oversensitive girl =.=
Eternal Sunshine...500 Days of Summer...When Harry Met Sally...The Notebook... Crazy,Stupid Love...
As Good As It Gets
A Walk To Remember kills me. I read the book and it wasn't that great. My impression was that the guy married the girl because she was dying and he felt sorry for her,
Meh I'm probably one of the like 30 girls in existence who hate romance movies. I much prefer horror, suspense, drama, or comedy. Plus I like it when two people who are obviously not absolutely perfect for each other slowly fall in love as the storyline progresses without paying a huge amount of attention to it.
you'll love LOVE loveeeee Nights in Rodanthe! And make sure you have a box of kleenex while watching! Superb movie. True to the book which is amazing in itself :)
