My favorite kind of movies are chick flicks. Yes, I know that they're not
actually any good. They're cheesy, and predictable, and after a while even I get bored. And I have a healthy appreciation of movies that I know are actually good (Shawshank Redemption, anyone?).
But the reason that I like chick flicks is because they allow me to escape from the real world, into a love fantasy with crazy romantic gestures that don't actually happen.
Except apparently, they do. From amazing proposals to one woman's admittance on
The Choice that she once flew from L.A. to Boston to be with her guy for just 6 hours, I've spent the whole week looking at things for Datingish that have tugged on my heartstrings. It's a nice reminder that, yes, crazy-romantic gestures do exist. I guess the people who write the chick flicks have to get it from somewhere, right?
But these romantic gestures always happen to people I don't know and will probably never meet.
In a long-term relationship, it's the little things that count. The everyday gestures are more important than the once-a-year ones.
But it's nice to fantasize, and it would be nice to hear about these from somebody more 'normal,' i.e. not with their 15 minutes of fame.
So whats the most romantic gesture you've ever received or done?

I can't really think of any grand romantic gestures that have happened to me that would be movie-worthy, but those little moments have me swooning for weeks--like buttoning up a man's shirt or making him a very well-thought out meal or him asking me for a dance in the middle of a restaurant.
i took a girl out to a restaurant this one time.
I guess the biggest romantic gesture was when my still boyfriend got a limo for just me and him to take us to prom...it doesn't sound romantic, but it was because I was upset about all the drama going on within my friend group and thus opted to take myself out of such situation as a vote of disapproval. He still wanted me to have the prom experience so got one for me.
But it doesn't always have to be expensive, I find my boyfriend willing to spend hours at the fabric store with me to be super romantic. In my sophomore year of high school, I was about to go to prom with my girlfriend who was a junior at the time (you can go to prom if your date is a junior/senior). There was a lot of money spent getting reservations, suits/dresses, and flowers and such.
The day of the prom, my girlfriend got sick.Instead of doing nothing, I decided to bring the prom to her. I came over to her house with my suit on, and told her that she was beautiful. we then shared a nice candlelight dinner, and watched movies. And besides her sneezing in my face that one time (pet peeve of mine) it was a great night. She thought it was INCREDIBLY romantic, as well as her parents and friends when she told them.I hopped on a train to go surprise him for the day.
That, or showing up with a bacon sundae, because he loves bacon :P
My boyfriend is really thoughtful, so one day, he took me on this nature trail, through a beautiful lake, and sat with me on a hill during a sunset. We were just friends then, but we really had a mutual crush. He kissed me right there on that hill and I thought it was so romantic. Another thing he did on Valentine's Day was blindfold me and take me to my favorite vegetarian restaurant, which was amazing, because he is a huge meat-eater, haha, and he sat there eating soy burgers with me. Then he took me into his car and he had a teddy bear and a chocolate box waiting for me. It was so sweet!
I don't really know if I'm romantic... I made a giant scrapbook once A-Z of all our memories together. He really loved that.
My boyfriend has crooked ingrown toenails that he has to keep long (about half and inch from where people usually cut it). After i got over how gross and gnarly his toenails are, I give him foot massages (along with the rest of his body), file the edges of his toes smooth and pick out the lint from underneath. In return, he lets me paint his toenails.
I sang his favorite song to him. I never even heard of the song before until he introduced me. it had a few spanish words. I felt like I was antonio banderas romancing his lover, but it was the other way around
I can't sing, so I just tried to sound sexy and used my sex operator voice
he gave me the key on how to wrap him around my fingertips. after that, it became like a radio show, where we took turns requesting songs and sang them to each other. I sang this classic 50's era love song and swept him off of his feet
he can't escape from falling in love with me now
I'm elvis bunny

danced to the sounds of frank sinatra, nat king cole, ella fitzgerald, and dean martin by candlelight, dressed up in formal wear after watching a movie.
Took my lover to a B&B in the Shenandoah Valley..surprise!
When I first learned to drive and bought a car, I was totally scared to go on the freeway. But it was Valentine's Day. I made grilled chicken salad and chocolate dipped strawberries and drove to his work to have lunch with him. My husband is a romantic one, done all sorts of sentimental things, but I think my favorite are the love letters we used to exchange. Another time we were shopping for baking supplies for my annual cookie bakefest. The shopping cart was wet from the rain. He put down his jacket so the last 25 pound bag of flour wouldn't get wet. ♥
Got married. Followed him to Germany and lived there for nearly three years.
I got so many points for that.I had a guy fly all the way over from America to spend a week with me. He turned out to be a dick, but I thought it was romantic at the time! My favourite "romantic" moment is when I was texting my boyfriend (who lived an hour away) and I mentioned I'd run out of peanut butter. Turns out he was on his way over to surprise me and he brought me two HUGE jars of it, haha. I thought it was so cute!
Probably my husband's proposal to me..it was the most genuinely romantic thing anyone has ever done for me. He took me camping for the weekend, and we had a blast..! I noticed one day he went out to go for a walk on his own while I was reading, but it turns out he was trying to find the perfect trail/spot to propose. He asked me to go for a walk with him and we ended up on this top of this large, long-grassy hill facing a lake at sunset, with forest all around the foot of it..and we were all alone. We stood and just looked at everything for a long time. Then he proposed. :)
I've received letters and impromptu visits from past boyfriends..but I guess nothing really compares to that moment, however simple it was. At least for me.
oh my god, this past weekend we went on a camping trip and then we went tubing down the Delaware. half way down the river i realize its just about my time of month, and that wouldn't have been the worst thing if we were just floating in the river. but we had to get out at this island to get lunch, and i was standing there terrified of something unwanted... well... making an appearance while we were all dripping wet and on line for hot dogs. i was going to just ask for some extra napkins but my boyfriend went ahead of me and asked a stranger behind the hot dog stand for a tampon O.o (i know i'm wuss, but I would have been mortified to do that myself) and saved my butt just in time. lol.
seriously = WAY MORE ROMANCE than a garden of roses!!
We made love a crystal clear lake, under a pitch black sky in the middle of Arkansas. It was a pretty amazing moment.
@Insomnia_Pickles_XtraTomato@xanga - wowww.. I think that's the most romantic haha
My boyfriend taught me how to slow dance in his grandma's kitchen :3
I set up candles outside around our table next to the pool. There was a full moon. I had picked up my boyfriend's favourite chinese food and arranged everything. I made him his favourite dessert. We ate, drank, and then slipped into the hot tub to relax. :)

We go out on the seadoo a lot and look for different little inlets or coves for breaks. We have found a perfect one...nice pebbley beach. Looks like no one ever stops there because it is just a small space. He named it the Low-Cove. He has made a sign he intends to carry out there and stake his claim! : )
A few weeks ago I did a 12 Hour Relay for cancer benefit. He said he would show up to support me...it was an hour drive. He walked WITH me for 6 straight hours. (then we both threw in the towel)
He brought me a glass of ice water the other morning while I was getting ready for work. I didn't even ask for it, but for some reason was feeling a little dehydrated. Don't know how he knew.
He buys random love cards and leaves them laying around his house for me to find.
@cindrelle@xanga - yupp! as embarrassing as the whole incident was or could have been, i've definitely been bragging about how awesome my bf is from that! lol he earned SUCH major points.
I once dated this girl in high school who couldn't decide if she wanted to date me, or this stupid werewolf boy. Ultimately, I bit her neck, turned her into a vampire, and impregnated her with a sparkly little vampire baby. That's pretty romantic right? Turning a chick into a vampire?
