Fox's new dating show, The Choice
, has an odd concept. Four celebrity bachelors must decide who they will date - based only on what a girl says.
Hosted by British bombshell Cat Deeley, who one bachelor tries to go out with at the beginning of the show, last Thursday night's group was an eclectic mix. The bachelors included Jersey Shore
's Pauly D, world-class athlete Jeremy Bloom, rapper Romeo, and soap opera star Jason Cook. The female contestants have 30 seconds to convince each celebrity to spin his chair. In Round 1, each bachelor can pick 3 women.
This show is interesting because it shows us exactly what piques the guys' interests. Romeo turns around when one girl says she's studying English education, it's another's farm-girl background that gets Bloom to spin his chair. It also shows what's important to each bachelor. Pauly D spins his chair for a choreographer but tries to turn it back around when he learns that she's a virgin.
There's also the girl that teaches us what not to do, turning all the guys off with talk of her superhero alter ego. Maybe a good idea for another guy, but not these 4 celebrity bachelors.
And for the girls who get more than one to spin around, it's cool to see which bachelor is more attractive. Cook is popular and quick to go. The virgin that Pauly D tries to put back in the pool, so to speak, picks the other bachelor that spun instead.
The second round gets more complicated. Each bachelor, after picking his 3, must eliminate one based on a 15-second Q+A. Except nobody knows who's supposed to be asking the questions, which gets a bit confusing.
In Round 3, the two girls are both asked the same question and the bachelor picks his date.
So this show is fun and light-hearted, although the advertising a bit misleading, since the bachelor sees his potential dates after Round 1. But it's a fun, simple summer TV show. And who knows? Maybe some Datingish readers will get a date with a hot celebrity. So the verdict is - Watch it
