Recently my old college roommate got out of a 4-year relationship. It absolutely devastated her and the thought of looking for someone else was beyond her capabilities.
She was always a big player of World of Warcraft and used the game as a sort of coping mechanism while she went through the motions of the break-up. Before she knew it, she had met a single local guy around her age that she really hit it off with.
After meeting a few months later and going on a handful of dates, the two were in a relationship. They've been going strong for a little over a semester now.
One of her friends actually found love through the game as well, though he wasn't as lucky. The girl he found happened to live in Finland and was at least ten years older than him. He has a lot of hurdles to jump.
I've never been big on the RPGs and fantasy games. I know people go wild about it and there are trading cards and conventions and what have you. I did date a guy who was heavily into Starcraft. When I came over one night, he only wanted me to watch him play. It was weird.
Do you play any of these RPGs and have you ever found someone on there--whether it be a crush or an SO?

I love WoW. Very, very addicting game. I've never had a crush in the game, though.
I love WoW but I'd never even think about finding romance on their. The guild my SO and I are in is mostly couples and I like it that way. (:
I set up a couple on WoW who ended up getting married :D Personally, I've met a girl off of WoW when I flew out there for Blizzcon. We didn't date, but good lord was the sex fantastic.
i play mmorpgs alot as a kid. so all this isnt new to me. ive met some crazy girls on there who use their sex to rob helpless nerds ,who want to get laid, of their money. its quite funny actually but several times i was almost pulled into it myself.
and even funnier is that these girls who con give out their real names and telephone numbers, of course thru pm'in but sometimes i feel im gonna see one these girls in the news one day.
Hey if it works for you, it works for you. If meeting someone over drinks and dinner is your thing, awesome. If it's going on raids with your guild and then PvPing some fools, equally awesome.
Nothing says love like a significant other who never forgets to cast a heal or buff while you're tanking. <3
WoW was hands-down my favorite RPG and I can tell you in all honesty that I used it as a coping mechanism in and a little after high school. Although I never went to the extreme of meeting anyone in person whom I met on the game, I flirted a lot. It's always been much easier for me to meet and talk to people via the internet than face to face. Sadly. =/
I've never met anyone on WoW. I did play WoW with my ex, but it actually contributed to the destruction of our relationship because gaming REALLY brought out his arrogance and immaturity. However, my old college roommate has been married to a guy she met through me on WoW for almost four years now, they seem to love each other and as far as I know she is very happy. So I think it can work for some people. :)
@Toxic_Kitty_13@xanga - Haven't met my rogue yet have you? He's quite the charmer
Lol...the guy I'm dating is really into LoL and I'm pretty sure he doesn't have a single friend who doesn't play except me. Awkward times ftw
I've found friends in games. I don't think there's any shame in meeting someone in a game. At least the two people will have some common interests! I played Phantasy Star Universe, Metal Gear Online was fun...although I definitely needed a lot of practice, and I cant wait to see what the future of gaming holds for me!
My ex met the woman he cheated on me with, and then left me for, on WoW. (She was also cheating on her husband at the time.) Personally, I've just made a lot of good friends on WoW.
P.S. For the Horde!
Also, it's probably only a coincidence, but your story is rather similar to (or a "nicer" version of) what happened in my neck of the woods. You didn't used to live in Ohio, did you?
You can find love in the strangest of places.
@mrqtran@xanga - Lets not forget the lovely guys who pretend to be girls to get $$$$
I've had several desperate in-game male friends get tricked... and boy did they learn the hard way. lol
for the alliance!!! humanbestracial lolol
@tearlessnights@xanga - what do u play?
@mrqtran@xanga - human shadow priest and a prot warrior
(: you?
i actually dont play wow...but i play several games. ive tried a bunch but never really stuck to any.
@LightBlue21@xanga - My boyfriend plays LoL too lol.
I dont play any computer games. Well.. Except those facebook games once in a while, lol. But I play quite a bit of consol games. I do like RPGs, but RPGs like Final Fantasy, Chrono Trigger, ect. And I loove LoZ :)
Meeting and dating on RPGs is probably WAY more popular than you think it is. I remember seeing a survey somewhere that showed they are infinitely more effective at bringing people together than dedicated dating sites.
It's pretty fun, too.
this website is very good, you can go and see it

Needless to say, I moved back, and stopped playing WoW.
I never have, but on the MMO I play, there were 2 people who met on there, and ended up getting married in real life and having a baby.
My boyfriend and I met through Starcraft 10 years ago and we've been talking since then and officially started going out about 3 years ago. If I never played this game online, I don't think my life would have been this amazing! =)
My ex-fiancee worked for Blizzard, but we never played WoW together. We did play FFXI online together. XD
I love WoW, I've met a lot of great friends through it in the past 5 years. :)
Bladefist-US Alliance btw ^_^
