Though it may be thought of as a little old fashioned, making mixtapes for a date or SO is incredibly endearing. I suppose nowadays it may be a special playlist that someone sends to you virtually, but I remember the old days of recording songs off the radio to put on a tape. That took some dedication, let me tell you.
While I have a playlist here and there filled with songs love interests have sent me online or compiled for me, I have a soft spot for the mixtape (or mixed CD).
One ex had made a mixed CD as a soundtrack to our first date. We listened to it on the way to dinner and on our drive up the coast afterwards. One track he mentioned was a great making out song and well… it was.
I grew very attached to that CD, which I know isn't the healthiest of things, but it had a nice mix of 80s pop, jazz, modern folk, and classic rock. Listening to tracks from it even two years later still evokes powerful feelings. Sometimes it's nice to feel those again.
What are some tracks off of your favorite mixtape you’ve ever gotten or made for someone?
"All I Want is You" by Barry Louis Polisar always brings a smile to my face.

Just playlists here. They're pretty fantastical playlists, though.
No mixtapes but we do have certain playlist we like to listen to when we're getting our romance on =)
Mix...tapes?
I'd be willing to make a mix CD for someone. As long as Janice isn't singing while I'm trying to dance with Monica.
My ex and I used to make CDs for each other. There was a lot of Starting Line, Blink 182, and MxPx. I skip songs a lot now because I associate them with him haha.
naaaahhhhh not anymore
Not anymore. Now I just steal music from their iTunes.
Yeah.... my ex had (has) really great taste in music. It's something I can't deny, unfortunately. Makes it hard to listen to certain (really good) songs too, which is sucky.
one guy had asked me to make him a mixtap and I was horribly confused. I made him one but it was full of all of my hippie, indie music
I made a mix cd for my boyfriend(: It came with explanations as to why I included each song^^ He loved it(:
Goodnight Moon-Go Radio,I Just Held Hands-Dave Days,Lovesong-The Cure, andOnly Place I Call Home-Every Avenue were my favorite tracks from the cd^^liddane!!!
no, i try to not associate songs with girls--makes me not like them (i.e. the songs) anymore later on.
I make mixed tapes for people I love.
been doing it since I was 15, I would design the booklet too :)
its the kind of thing that makes people smile when I give it to them.
I did it all the time when I was younger - I even made one for my dad to try and get him into my music and it worked! I haven't made one in ages though - I kind of miss it.
I love making mixes! Obviously not tapes though, but CDs or just the files :) I'm a serious audiophile, and there's almost always a perfect song for one of the events in my life or my feeling at the moment. I find that many other people don't really appreciate music the same way, though. So sometimes I feel like my efforts go under-appreciated.
My friends and I made mix tapes for each other but I never made one for a SO. I loved making them though. They were so much fun! It was fun to receive them from my friends too.
my boyfriend gave me a huge heart made out of cds with a mixed tape cd for valentines in the center of the heart. it was incredibly corny, yet, very cute and creative. made me feel like i was in grade school all over again. hehe I loved it!
@Shadowrunner81@xanga - hahahahahahaha yes.
@Shadowrunner81@xanga - EXACTLY!!!!!!! (That episode is probably in my top five favorites lol!)
I thought people stopped doing that back in the 80's. Never have I ever been given nor given a mixtape of any kind. One girl did send me an iTunes playlist, but I promptly deleted it because it didn't have any songs on it I liked heh.
I've never gotten or made one but my boyfriend and I has decided songs to each other. I love CDs though. They always seem to bring back more memories than when playing a bunch of songs on your mp3. The older and what you were thinking as you made that CD long ago. =)
My friends and I have made CD's for each other. In high school, I used to make one at the end of the year of jr and senior years of high school. I've made one for someone I dated. But they were songs that I knew I could tolerate and/or not have the gag reflex if I heard the songs after we broke up (which we did).
There are some songs that I have that will instantly remind me of a high school friend. But only because our birthdays are so close together and all that good stuff.
Since having an iTunes account and doing my own playlists, I haven't had anyone make me a personalized playlist in a while. :( I kinda miss that.
I only do it when I really, really like someone 15 years ago.
I make mix CDs for my love. And I made one for our first date. The last track on it was a song that one of my friends wrote for us. It was awesome, and he loved it.
