Why Listening Matters

I think I realize daily that there are even more reasons why I am so happy that: 1. I have someone as perfect for me as L, and 2. I don't have to think about dating anymore. Seriously, I recently realized after reading the comments on a post, Why Women Can Learn From Erin Andrews, I just wrote that people don't listen. Or maybe they just don't comprehend. I wrote about how I think it's a great idea for women who aren't into sports to put in a little effort for their man if he is into sports.
Truthfully, this concept applies to all things. Yet, somehow, people were getting all worked up thinking I said "be the same person as your boyfriend and pretend to like stuff he likes just to make him like you." HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAHHAHAHA but seriously, actual people interpreted it that way? Or, perhaps, people read three words and just decided to make shit up and interpret it however they damn well please.
That's a joke, right? Wrong.
This is a bit of a rant which is generally not my style, but I really have to say:
For those of you out there who have someone who listens to you, hold on to that. Clearly, there are way too many people in this world who can't do that. They don't listen or they don't read what's there. There are a lot of people who are too immature to see what's right in front of them. If you can't comprehend some simple advice and instead you are constantly harping on other peoples' views and ideas, you might need to take a step back. We're all a little self-conscious. That's just human nature. Yet, if you can't see something for what it is, you're not going to be able to find someone who will see you for who you really are.
Lasting love is about communication. It's so important to understand what your SO is relaying to you even when it's not terribly obvious. Misinterpreting things leads to arguments, fights, blow-ups, and break-ups.

I agree with what you said here. But I think you overreacted a little bit. Your post was just a post..people are going to put down their opinions, whatever they my be, since they have the freedom to do so. Instead of writing another post in response to other people's responses, its easier just to let it go and move on.
I think this was a terrible way to handle people misunderstanding you. Way to be mature, dude.
@Gorrific@xanga -
@lewk@xanga - yeah, seriously.
Dear Datingish: Please don't post things that are not worth anyone's time. I'd rather see nothing new. It's OKAY to be picky. :P
@sleeping_on_the_edgeoftheworld@xanga - Well said.
Its a big world out there, and you are bound to find someone who says 'I disagree!'
communication is so important especially in relationships. if you don't have good communication, it's hard for the relationship to even work.
I think they meant that they won't even try to pretend a little bit because they have zero interest
so their s.o. should also understand that they hate sports period
Oh come on, this is an internet forum, not a loving marriage. Lighten up.
why is this even on here? seriously, datingish... take this crap off.
and dear OP: wipe the sand out of your vagina and get on with your life.
I agree. Too many interactions and relationships are one-way streets. Women always want men to show that they are interested in them, but said women won't show any interest in said men.
It's not readers' fault you don't know how to communicate effectively through your writing. You did come off like an Erin Andrews fanboy.
Learn to write better before you start ranting.
I usually like your posts, but I think you are seriously overreacting in this case. Yes, sometimes people will misinterpret you (sometimes that's their fault and sometimes it's yours), but it happens. Even when people DO understand you correctly, they aren't always going to agree with you and you just have to accept it. C'est la vie!
wait, what was this post about?
i think that post just wasn't written very clearly :/ it came off as irksome to me too, whether you intended it or not. if so many people are misinterpreting you, maybe you need to think about whether you were communicating your ideas as clearly as possible.
Very well said. It never hurts to go a little extra mile for you SO. That person will be grateful for it and in turn you will feel appreciated which is like the best feeling in the world. Its always the little things that matter and just sitting down and listening to your loved one will make them feel cared for. Isn't that the point of love? To give and receive endlessly? So that at the end of the day you both feel loved, appreciated and happy. :)
