  • How Well Does Your Horoscope Apply to Your Life & Relationships?

Astrology has been around for ages. It all comes down to science. Depending on when the stars align predicts your fortune in love and life .. or something like that. I don't know about the rest of you but I used to read my horoscope religiously. It was my safety net. When something went wrong, I would take its general comment and apply it to me life in some way, shape or form. It didn't end there either - I would get my tarot cards read and listen to this woman as if she were God.

The thing is that at the time when I was into this, I wasn't at a great point in my life. I was at a point where I was unsure of where life was going to take me. My horoscope and tarot cards provided me with some sort of direction. It calmed me to go to these things as a form of support. It provided me with a feeling that things were going to work out and be alright.

As things finally did start to work out, I noticed that I relied on it less and less. I simply didn't need it anymore. I came to a point where I knew that things were going to work out because they had already started to. It can be really easy to get caught up in all that stuff. That's not to say that I don't still believe that they're on to something with all the things they say, or "predict". I just think that it brings a negative energy to things. As long as you remain positive and keep an open mind, everything will be alright. That sounds like a horoscope in itself, doesn't it?

This applies to the dating world as well, though. I still find myself checking if I'm compatible with certain signs and reading facts about my sign, etc. How about you guys? Do you use your horoscope to check if you're compatible with your significant other or someone you like? How much do you apply it to your life/relationship?

I think its all mumbo-jumbo. I mean it's fun to read every once in awhile, but I would never take it to heart.

  • Gorrific@xanga

I think they just make intensely general statements that people can easily apply to their lives.  Ultimately....it's a crock.

  • homealivein45@xanga

People who follow astrology are giving up their God-given power to direct there own lives and to design and create their own destiny.

  • shatteredmoonbeams@xanga

I find astrology interesting, but I don't consult the stars before making a decision or depend on my horoscope to guide me through life. It's just fun for me. I have a horoscope app and a tarot app on my phone. I check them every day, and yeah, I check my compatibility with guys I crush on. My horoscope/tarot readings tend to say the same kind of things-stuff that I need to keep in mind to stay sane anyway. 9/10 times they will say something about taking control of a situation (or know when to let go of something that bothers me), speak my mind when something bothers me, etc. etc...it's just a fun, interesting thing to me, not an answer to my problems.

Never. It's bullocks. What a complete and utter unscientific waste of time. If someone is interested in the stars, turn on a documentary. If you're interested in relationships and life advice, phone a friend or a parent.

  • Cho_0705@xanga

Well to be honest we've all read our horoscopes, sometimes at the most vulnerable positions in our lives, they seem appealing, but after like 1 minute i usually forget it, what they say usually applies to like 90% of the population.

  • thisiswhereItellyoueverything@xanga

I don't believe in superstitious things like horoscopes, tarot, fortune telling, religion, god, etc.

That said, I think fortune cookies, horoscopes, and tarot cards can be amusing.

I would never say that astrology has anything to do with science, though. Paying attention to where stars are positioned = science. Implying that the star positions have an effect on human personality/relationships: NOT SCIENCE.
  • writemyheartt@xanga

lol what a coincidence... some guy just told me about 3 days ago that if i look up our signs i'll see that we're compatible

I think astrology is self-fulfilling, so in that sense, it does govern our subconscious lives. Much like how if an individual was raised in a highly religious household with conservative views, that upbringing will affect his/her decisions in life. If someone reads a horoscope profile on his/her sign, he/she will subconsciously seek to find those attributes within him/herself and affirm them.

With that said, I think two people with completely incompatible charts can have a harmonious relationship if the two make conscious effort. I personally prefer to have an unspoken bond and to have things naturally flow because my partner just underestands me without me having to communicate my needs, and I only find that within people of my same element. So I do look at a love interest's natal chart during the dating period to see how things would progress throughout the relationship.

Horoscopes are the mass cultural delusion that the sun's apparent position relative to arbitrarily defined constellations at the time of your birth somehow affects your personality.
    -Sheldon Cooper

    And you call that science!?
  • valeriebeth04@xanga

I have no interest in astrology or horoscopes. Its a bunch of b.s.

There are various types of astrology, which are used for different purposes.

Furthermore, no one should use the 'pop' or western astrology columns (based solely on a person's sun sign) as actual astrology.

You'd need to have a natal chart drawn up (plenty of online companies do this for free according to the exact time and location of birth) if you're looking to delve into how astrology affects a persons personality type (you have to synthesize the information -- the location of planets in their respective signs and houses as well as the aspects they make with each other).  If interested in predictive astrology, once you grasp the general energies at work in a chart, you can look at the transits affecting that person's chart currently and in the future to see what type of affect the coming time can/will have on them.

On top of that, there are a ton of other ways that you can delve into astrology, as there are even more types with more chart options (to see different things).

It should be noted that in the astrological community, there is a chasm between those who use astrology just as a guide (those who ascribe to free will) as well as those who use astrology as fact (those who ascribe to fate/destiny/sovereignty).

It should also be noted, although I am in the minority with this opinion, that I believe that the electromagnetic force field is the physical manifestation of what we currently know as astrology.  For most of our history, astrology and astronomy were one in the same science.

    ---

With that said, I definitely use astrology in regard to my love life as well as my life in general.

"It all comes down to science."

It relies on some supernatural mechanism, so no, it's not science. And really, you could look through one of those books detailing what your birthday or your sign means for you and find that the descriptions are vague enough to fit most people.
  • path_2_happiness@xanga

People who think it is bullshit dont know much about it. Nor have the observed it. Horoscopes are very different then say your natal profile. As someone who has observed it I find it to be very accurate. Just because your star sign doesn't really reflect you doesn't mean it is false. You have a sign in every planet. All those traits joined together equals you. I am a cancer but my Moon, Mercury, and Mars are in Leo. I fit more of Leo traits then I do Cancer and this is why. Personally, I find it mind blowingly accurate. If your not into it, well, then that's fine.

Wow, this is an unexpected post, but one that I surprisingly have a great deal of interest in. I'm a college student, and even on a campus of diverse individuals I still get weird looks and strange responses when I bring up the topic of Astrology; I feel old fashioned as all hell (though I'm only 21, lmao), but this esoteric art and other off-beats sciences/activities have always interested me. It's something that I followed to the 'T' - depending on the credibility of the resources from which the information comes - due to the overwhelming and creepily accurate descriptions of my and others signs'.
Being a fellow Earth sign (I'm a Capricorn dude), I find that all three Earth signs - based on observations of people I know - have a particular need to know that things, in any of life's aspects, will be certain; I believe it comes from our 'grounding force' and 'sense of/tendency towards stability'. I just like sure bets, lol. With that in mind,it would explain yours and my quasi-dependency on the divinatory nature of Tarot and Astrology (yes, I sometimes dabble in Tarot as well, lol).
But relying upon any spiritual and/or religious practice to the point of it's functioning in your life becoming that of a crutch is an absolutely perfect set-up for disaster, in my opinion. I had this/your same problem when I first started researching Astrology and other obscure arts; I thought of it as guidance - to some degree - and a credible source which assured my presumptions of people and their interactions, that way I could shove it in my friends' and others' faces if pressed to defend my views, lol. Though my sources were much more ingrained in a realistic sense (I read and turgidly believed in the works of Starsky+Cox, their "Sextrology" and "Cosmic Coupling", which I recommend), but as I grow older and mature I've come to realize, like so many others out there, that it's a pitfall.
Plenty of otherwise intelligent people fall pray to this type of reliance on spiritualism, be it Christianity, Buddhism, Meditation, or Philosophy (I've tried them too, and have a taste for Philosophy). But the point is that if you're too dependent on them, as alluring as they may be, you become blind to possibilities and thus never grow as a person.
This especially is catastrophic to one's dating life. I'm not saying that their predictions don't have an ounce of merit, but to be cautious. Aside from the fact that Horoscopes are actually WRONG eight times outta ten (most are made up by a newspaper/magazine editor or other staff member with no qualified knowledge of Astrology or the like), the truth is everyone's different. Nobody's the same. And what works in theory could function completely ass-backwards in reality (I've seen it happen, lol). Following those books mentioned, I avoided Aries, Cancers, and Sagittarius like the plague. But who knows, they could be right for me, though I'd never know it if I was that close-minded. And my advice is likewise for anyone else out there in that kind of predicament.
Though it's good to know that there are some preset general guidelines which we can go off of, evidenced when I do check compatibility every once in a while. I just take it for face-value instead of die-hard fact. It's like constructive criticism in a sense, just use it with caution, previous experience, and common sense, lmao.

  • TresLumineux@xanga

If the moon can move the tides, people shouldn't so easily say "This is bullshit." [shrug]

I don't think it's 100% the truth nor think it's 0% truth. I like to just think of it as something humans don't fully understand yet.

I literally dread when a girl says something like this "this happened because its in your horoscope"

    SERIOUSLY?!?!?!
I am XX years old I am not going let a paragraph rule my day/week/month/year
I hope the girl has enough knowledge and maturity that will let her realize a horoscope is just like any other set of words
    They all sound the same!
Who is in charge of your day? Words or you!
  • leopardchick107@xanga

I love horoscopes and all of that, but for your astrological sign, its the same for everyone born in that month, and obviously it can't apply to that many people. I think astrology is interesting, but I would never believe something so general.

  • Cambios@xanga

I fall under two different signs depending on the chart I look at so I find that some stuff is relevant and some stuff is not. Geminis are supposed to be twin and I am but they are also supposed to be chatty and outgoing and I am not. Taurus is supposed to be introverted, slow to anger and raging when angry and that is more me. So..I dunno.

  • CaptSharkey@xanga
I find astrology interesting, and when I meet guys I do check to see if we are compatible. My parents think it is all mumbo-jumbo, but recently I looked to see if they were compatible, and they were, so maybe, just maybe there is something to it. I don't, However, base every decision I make on them and rely on them in life. That's just ridiculous.
  • ms_guided_youth@xanga

Like others have said, it's fun to peep into. However, it shouldn't govern any aspect of your life too seriously. Use it for the end of the relationship LOL (i.e. I knew you were a whorish pisces!)

  • dream_guru5@xanga

Anyone who thinks it's bs has never studied it.  They are just looking at the newspaper and the made up horoscopes they have as entertainment.  I have done my full horoscope based on my date of birth and time and place and even compared it to my numerological sign and they add up perfectly.  So do my husband's, daughter's and other people I have interpreted for.  If the moon and stars are science, so is astrology.  I call it a soft science instead of a hard science but it still takes a lot of studying to understand.  I have a certification and I'm wanting to go to a formal school of Astrology.

and lol to the chick calling Pisces whores.. at least she spelled it right.

I'm a Capricorn with my cusp in Aquarius.  My moon is also in Capricorn and in real life, I am a very level headed person and very businesslike.  To really get personal, you have to go by the date and time you were born, not just the month.

    I needed a chuckle. Thanks.

Fun to read every now and then. Other than that, superstitious crap.
