Top 10 Reasons Why Facebook is Overrated

- People decide to post action-status. You know what I'm talking about! "Insert Name Here is studying" or "Insert Name Here finished my hw" or ""Insert Name Here is hungry" - Irrelevant and absolutely unnecessary for other people to know. What are the chances that I will care if you are hungry or if you finished your homework? Facebook makers decide to make everything public now. If you happen to "like" a band or a group or a page, oooh yes! I will find out! Despite whether I will care or not.
- There are way too many games and applications on Facebook. Farmville, Cafeworld, Petsociety, The Sims... oh, the countless games to keep the mindless ones entertained for days or years, even! I read an article about this woman who 'accidentally' starved her kids because she was so addicted to Farmville. Really though? What ever happened to actually going to a farm and getting some hands-on experience?! And technically, people who play these games aren't really Facebook users anyway; they're more or less abusing Facebook.
- Adding random people even though you don't know them at all. "Oooh, that girl looks hot! I'll add her!" or "Look at his muscles! I'm gonna make a new friend today *wink wink*" No. Nooo. No. If you don't know him/her in real life, that means you are not his/her friend (yet). And keep in mind, it's called "Friend Request" for a reason. I'm sure you can always send a message and get to know him/her BEFORE you send a friend request.
- Adding people and NOT talk to them. Really now? You're only gonna add me JUST so you can see my pictures, read my wall, stalk my info? First off, it's slightly creepy, not to mention that it does you no good to know everything about me if you don't actually know me. Second, you really think that I would put all my business out there for you to stalk? Well, some people actually do, but I'm not one of them - Facebook does give me SOME privacy option where I can hide basically everything from you even if you're on my friendlist; just keep that in mind. Which reminds me, who out there would put their cellphone number out in public for everyone to see? Kinda risky if you ask me. You never know who might just call you up one day. Or worse - prank call you.
- Nowadays, people post Twitter messages on Facebook. Now what is the point of that? If you're on Twitter, let it stay on Twitter. Why are you duplicating your message on Twitter onto Facebook? It really isn't that hard to update your Facebook USING Facebook. I see people throwing one of these around, "#hahahaha" or "#TeamApologyAccepted." Alright... so this sign -> #
Alright, so maybe this list doesn't apply to you, but it's just something that I see every day on my Facebook Newsfeed. The examples given are also real-life examples that I see on my page.
What's your take on Facebook? Are you a big fan? A hater? Or just a "I-use-Facebook-to-keep-in-contact" type of person like I am?

I use to like being on FB when it used to be really simple. None of that Farmville or Sims crap. And I've been on FB since '06. Regarding friend requests, I tend to add people via work or through somebody I know. There was one girl who sent me three friend requests in a row and she left a message like, "Why, why, why won't you add me?!?!?!?!" Why would I add you, I don't even know you, you psycho! I think she got the hint. lol! Anyway, I only use FB to keep in contact with friends and family.
Xangans criticize Facebook a lot. I notice the popularity of posts that declare in bold tones "I deleted my Facebook."
Misery loves company, I guess.
As to (1), Xangan statuses are pretty random. Some dude pulsed about how he just heard his stomach rumble.
(2) isn't a problem now as much as it was before, since we can choose not to receive notifications about them. But, granted, it's a little weird that my friend who's a Master Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force spends his time buying chickens or what-the-hell on Farmville.
The friendship thing I sort of get, but again fail to see how Xanga improves in that regard. Often I deactivate to regain a sense of peace and independence, but I think they did a masterful job enabling people and family to connect with each other.
#longlivefacebook
facebook has become the internet equivalent of China: over popularized.
after months of self reflection and drinking countless bottles of sky in a dark corner of my living room, i developed the ultimate counter to this dilemma.
I stopped using FB.
Facebook is kind of boring for me, no different than myspace, what sets them apart is that with myspace you can edit your site into whatever you want, facebook only has its way.
Its a site.. Why do people make such big deals about them?
The format of this post is crap. The main paragraph looks like one big run-on sentence/rant.
People take facebook and social media WAY TOO serious. If I get a friend request from a stranger, I ignore it. If they harrass me, I upload screenshots to failbook to mock their pathetic ass, and then I block and report them.
If you act socially inappropriate, I moderate.
If I don't want to get your obnoxious game requests, I click the little box that says BLOCK REQUESTS, and it's done with.
People who take facebook and twitter THIS serious, should not be online.
If you dislike Facebook, just don't go on it. I switched to using Twitter more after Facebook changed everything the last time. I like it a lot more because you can actually talk to celebs/athletes you like and some will answer back. And you can personalize your twitter page too. I still check facebook because a lot of my friends are away at school and since I don't see my family since I'm away at school I use it to talk to them.
I like Facebook. I've been using it since it was a simple college networking site.
i agree if you don't like it.. just don't go on it
Where's the other 8 reasons?
Also, Facebook is becoming way too crowded for me, I've added people I shouldn't have. so I'm going to Google+ for my close friends, and saving everything else for my "fakebook". Or so it seems.I like Facebook and Tumblr. I don't understand Twitter, but I still use it :3 Yeah but it really gets on my nerves when people connect twitter and facebook... and use hashtags. What's the point of that?
I like Facebook and I like some of the applications on FB. If you really don't want to hear about the menial things other people are doing, you can hide their status updates. But just because you don't like it doesn't mean they will stop.
I didn't read this because the organization of the post really annoys me and I can't get past it :/
Anyway! I don't think Facebook is overrated. It's to keep in touch with family and friends, which is exactly what it does. It's nice being able to see pictures of a cousin that I haven't seen in forever, or being able to message that person at a whim without feeling bothersome. I can see what they're up to without having to call them up every week. I mostly use it for family, since I have a lot of relatives that are states and even countries away and it's really helpful to keep in contact.
I like FB. It's a quick and easy way to keep my finger on the pulse of what's happening in my friends and family's lives. I like to be able to see the photos etec, and I enjoy the jokes, funny pics, and all that.
I don't play games, etc, cause that is not my thing (online surveys...THAT is my thing)
I only friend people who I actually care about what is happening in their lives.
I think it's a tool that is as useful as the choices we make in how to use it, and as useless or dangerous as any tool when used improperly.
Seriously. Facebook. I don't like it, but I still use it, mostly to see what other people are up to or to keep in contact with others. I barely use it for any real purpose, and that's probably why I'm not on it often! I can't stand it when people post their twitter posts to facebook. Seriously, I can't stand twitter either. I like xanga because it's a social networking site, but I actually use it to connect with others instead of blocking everyone out or posting stupid crap to make people feel bad. I think facebook is used for all the wrong reasons, if you ask me.
most of the people that add me on my social network site do want to talk, so they might leave their phone number, email or instant messenger info to chat with me, but I often don't respond, because I don't feel like it
or they want to meet me and sex me up
or there was a guy, who I barely talked to for an hour and he wanted to get breakfast at a local place and he wanted to win me over by using his cute puppy as bait, because he kept showing me his puppy pics and I didn't ask. cute puppy but no way, I won't meet him. kidnappers are notorious for luring people in their vans
maybe not that extreme but he seemed too desperate and creepy nonetheless.
i deleted my Facebook about four months ago and i don't miss it .
I have a love/hate relationship with Facebook, but the one thing I can't stand is the people that abuse it for silly reasons. For example, people that make a status update every damn time something doesn't go their way. I know someone that every time someone wrongs them in one way or another they make a status just for them. It is kinda like the equivalent of a Taylor Swift song. Hurt Ms. Swift and she will write a song about you, hurt this mentioned person and she will make a FB status just for you. -_-
What are the top ten reasons? I only read 2.
I hate the girls that always post sappy, love lyrics as their statuses every half an hour -_-.
it's the easiest way of keeping in the loop.
simple- if you don't like fb so much don't use it. don't have to be a genius to figure that one out.as for the people complaining about people making stupid post updates on fb, fb only got popular when i was starting uni, and since i don't accept friend requests from people i don't know, everybody on my friendslist are my age and generally aren't annoying like that.
since all the hot guys from this one social networking site moved to a facebook group I've found a new interest in it.
I just don't care enough to let any of it bother me. Sure, sometimes it's ridiculously obnoxious, but I usually giggle at it, make a joke, and move on with my day.
