10 Great Reasons We Use Dating Sites
This post was submitted anonymously.Dating has always been done in a variety of ways. I mean, that is part of what gives each of us our swagger (or not so much). Some people are so smooth that as soon as they step foot in a room the whole place goes crazy as if everyone was waiting for them to let the fun begin. The problem is that all of us are a bit like that on the inside. We have a ton to offer the right person but due to being shy or several other factors, we just never get around or muster up the strength to “make our move.”
Online dating sites afford us the opportunity to be a bit more anonymous and to not worry about having to run into that person every day in the elevator, or on the way to work, etc. We can open up and let people see the great person inside before being too judgmental on the outside (not that we aren’t all super hot and sexy in our own ways). Some of us also live a relatively sheltered life and just aren’t aware of all the amazing options and types of people that are roaming around this world with us.
With online dating services you get the opportunity to really take in the breadth of humanity in a way that just isn’t feasible working our way through the crowds one at a time. There are so many great reasons to give online dating a try that it’s almost easier to just look at it as why not? What do you really have to lose? Just in case you still aren’t convinced here are 10 great reasons we use dating sites:
1. Match-making on a higher level.
2. Singles find you.
3. Avoiding rejection.
4. Getting to know someone before you meet.
5. Finding out if someone is really interested.
6. Less expensive risk.
7. Broader range of people.
8. No commitment dating.
9. Confidentiality is a plus.
10. Dating on your schedule. The bottom line is that dating online is a more convenient and safer method of dating in today’s world, giving you a ton of help when you need it the most. Even the most successful and good-looking people need a little help when it comes to dating sometimes, and there are several dating websites that can truly make a difference in your life. We do recommend that you try two or three to find the dating community that best suits you and your interests.

Not for me though, I'm glad when I dated it was the ol' traditional way
So much fun!
You make some good points, but I think it should also be said that online dating is not a replacement for a real life date. You can't live your entire life in cyberspace ;) Also, I don't think you can ever really avoid rejection when dating. Online dating just affords you the comfort of not receiving an in person rejection.
Good post btw.
I personally cannot do online dating. It just doesn't feel right.
outdated, tweaked or tricky angle pics. attraction matters to an extent and I prefer to be attracted to someone in person and then decide if I'd like to get to know them more versus the other way around when I get to know them first online, then we meet, and there's no physical chemistry. to each their own.
@P0RCELA1N_D0LL@xanga - I'm the exact opposite. I'd much rather end up on a date with someone physically unattractive (but with a compatible personality) than sit through awkward silence and idiotic comments with a hot dude because all I really knew about him prior was that he's attractive. Both have happened to me on a few occasions. I wouldn't go on a second date with either, but I might pursue a friendship with the former (unless I felt the photos provided were intentionally misleading - no thanks).
I'm kinda biased because I initially met several amazing people who are part of my everyday IRL life now through dating sites, and I most likely wouldn't have met them otherwise. Buuut a lot of people want to keep things traditional, and that's fine too. I just have a hard time meeting people with things in common with me IRL who aren't my colleagues or within my already incestuous circle of friends.
@sixleafclover@xanga - note: I may pursue other things with the latter, but a relationship wouldn't be one, if you get my drift.
@sixleafclover@xanga - I've known physically unattractive guys with a compatible personality, but those guys often became a good guy friend than romantic dating material. I don't just crush on any random hot guy either. the hot guy, who is also intelligent with self disclipline that I crush on now is my boss
@P0RCELA1N_D0LL@xanga - Yep, that's what I meant, a guy needs to be both hot and intelligent for me to date him and I just have better luck finding those guys online. My crush at the moment is definitely both, but unfortunately without the boss/worker power dynamics ahaha. IF ONLY.
I'm not having much success with online dating. I have met someone online that I like, but he is a workaholic and we havent had a chance to meet yet after talking for a few months.
I'd be willing to try it, if I ever re-enter the dating scene.

I've had good luck with it. I've met a lot of guys who weren't quite right. But I've been dating one guy for almost a year who I originally met online.
My mother met her second husband online dating. Granted she's on her third marriage now but I think it can work.
Also I met my high school sweetheart who I was with for 3 years on AIM. Not online dating but an online connection. It can work. Think about how "normal" you consider yourself and that you're online. There are plenty of other "normal" people online.
