My mom lived two floors below my dad and his roommates in college. As is often the case when people move away from home, my mom became much more self-sufficient around this time in her life. This translated into her talents in the kitchen as well. While cooking was initially an economically-driven decision, my mom blossomed into a bonafide chef. My dad, on the other hand, was (and still is) an atrocious chef. His meals consisted of Ramen, bowls of Rice Krispies, and other low-maintenance packaged goods of that caliber.
Apparently, my mom's homemade mac and cheese with ham was known dorm-wide. My dad was friendly with my mom's roommates, and used to come and hang out every once in awhile. He specifically would come down when he heard through the grapevine that my mom was making mac and cheese. When no one was looking, he'd open the fridge and pick out the ham from the leftover mac, his stealth only mastered by his hunger. He'd quickly scarf it down before anyone would discover him.
For months, my mom and her roommates couldn't figure out where the ham was going. Everyone denied it was them, and everyone was a suspect.
One day a group of people were hanging out in my mom's room, and she walked out into the kitchen to grab something. Lo and behold, my dad was standing there, mouth full of ham chunks, caught in his thievery.
"You!" she said.
He could barely choke out "I'm sorry," as the evidence was still being chewed.
You would think this would cause one party to be disgusted and the other party to be too ashamed to ever show his face again. But for some reason, by the following month, they were dating.
They have been together ever since, and recently celebrated their thirty-first wedding anniversary.
Do you know a cute dating story of your parents? How did your parents meet?

that's too cute! won't tell my parent's story because it's not as cute haha.
That was such a adorable story! Its so nice to hear how something so simple as food can really bring people together.
My parents are both social workers who worked in the same building. My mom is Hispanic and would help translate Spanish to my dad when he needed help. My dad would also go and visit my mom when they would have breaks, and then one day he decided to go drive down the street she said she lived on until search for her car. He knocked on the door and she invited him in. I told my mom I thought that was creepy. I don't think that kind of determination to find someone now would transcend well, what with facebook and cellphones and all that. After 6 months of dating they got married.
Awww, that's cute! Too bad, I don't have a cute story of my parents.
That's great! My cooking skills kept my husband coming back: ). He was so happy to not have to eat McDonald's every day that he realized I was a catch when I showed him I could make fish sticks and tater tots. I actually really impressed him when I would feed the next door neighbor guys, all four of them.
LOL I love Mac n cheese and that is so cute, but if that's all that happened it would actually be kinda lame don't you think? Parents usually simplify their story for their kids. And for good reason, why would you want to tell your kids how crazy it is to actually be in love when you're young? I bet they just keep their scandalous stories to themselves. My mom and dad used to be really close friends, and then it just developed from there. They used to always look out for each other but didn't realize they were meant to be together until a lot later in their lives. They always tell me this story that actually involves my dad trying to hook my mom up with another guy when they were just friends, and I didn't think it was as cute as they thought it was until I realized that it showed how much they've always cared for each other. They both went through some difficult periods in their lives and they said it got complicated sometimes (my parents were actually people? lol) but at a certain point they figured out that no one else could have what they have. They both helped each other out in their respective career and life paths and learned some of the 'domestic tasks' on their own and some together. It's astounding to hear everyone's different stories. There are a million ways two people can realize they'll be there for each other forever and that they will continue to be through thick and thin. That's the beauty of love. My parents had their 40th anniversary a few months ago.
My parents met at a bar when they were in their mid 20s. My dad had my mom chasing him around for months, with many various hijinks ensuring (there's one story of my mom hacking down the front door of the house of one of my dad's close friends with a fire axe). They've been together for over 30 years and married for 25 years.
Mac&Cheese = Love
My parents met in high school when my mom was 15 and my dad was 17. They were carpooling with mutual friends to a party after a school dance, and there wasn't enough room in the car, so my mother had to sit on my father's lap. They always joke that if one of her friends had gotten into the car before her, I'd have a different mother. lol. :P
Anyway that was in 1976. They got married in 1989, tonight is actually their 22nd wedding anniversary. :)
My parents were set up by their moms. They dated for a little while and eventually got eloped in Vegas. They've been together for like 28 years. I always thought it was kind of cool they eloped and have stayed together. It always make me laugh when I tell people they eloped because everyone does one of these O_O faces.
my parents met when my dad's company was called to do tech services for my mom's hospital. he called her from the (her) office's phone and asked her out to lunch that day after he finished fixing their computers. she agreed, and they've been together ever since :)
