Text Messages That Turn Me Off

So this guy is texting me, it's pretty recent and he's absolutely adorable and I'm definitely attracted to him. In person he seems to speak well, was confident enough to approach me and get my number and has texted me every day. So what seems to be the problem? I'll tell you. He literally goes out of his way to write as if he is a 5th grader exploring AIM for the first time.Intelligence is a huge turn on for me. I love a guy I can debate with and who can speak to me like I'm an adult so whenever I come across a guy who sends me a text like this, "im N econ major," I have to decide quickly whether I will actually put up with it or ignore his future texts.
Now this guy is lucky he is irresistible and easy on the eyes because if he didn't have such a great smile I would most likely be turned off and away. I'm only human so it's natural for me to give someone a shot if I am attracted, that's life. But I wonder why this guy finds it necessary to sound so stupid when he obviously is a smart guy. Maybe it's a confidence thing? I don't know.
But this isn't the only awful texter I have encountered. I have one guy I know that used to bombard his texts with smiley faces and exclamation points and until I got to know him face to face, those were getting pretty old, pretty fast.
I guess all I'm asking for is someone who can write the way they speak or at least be consistent and speak the way they write. If you want to sound less intelligent through text then you better hold it up in conversation with me. But just think how funny it would be if everyone spoke to each other the way they wrote. Just think of the hilarity that would come out of a conversation during a date!
Hiiii
Heyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy omg i was just getting froyo w/ my friends wats up
idk jus seein what U were doin, nm, bout to hit the gym
Or what about this bad boy:
Hey, what's up??! :)
Nothing much just in class you?
Nothing, are you getting lunch later?? You wanna join me?
Sure I'd love to
Ok see you soon! :)
I just don't think anyone is really that excited about lunch do you? So please, spare your friends, your family and your future love interests and spell correctly. You wouldn't want to sound like that in person, would you?
Do poorly written text messages turn you off? Or do you just not care at all????? :)

Spelling errors. Especially with spell check. Loses a ton of points with me.
Especially these days, with smart phones and autocorrect (which can sometimes cause more problems...) there's no reason people can't just write what they are saying. Very few phones have a character limit anymore, so there is no reason to type like an idiot. The only time I'll abbreviate is if I'm driving, and I need to respond real quick at a stop light, or if I am texting someone who I know has a limit on characters. Also excessive smilies and LOLs and Hahas drive me crazy.
Poor spelling/grammar/not caring is not a way to pick up girls. Or anyone.
...Wait are you making fun of the second text scenario because the person said they'd love to grab lunch?
...seriously? ...
@thisiswhereItellyoueverything@xanga - I don't get that one either...
Grammar errors and spelling. I'm texting people that are typically between the ages of 15-18 and if they can't spell the words "you" or "are" out the whole way, or they abbreviate everything, or they misspell words when they have a spelling corrector on their phone, I'm gonna get annoyed and probably not text back.
iii cant standdd wwhhennn peopleeeeee usee a million letterssss in their textssss.
Because then when I read it, I have the tendency to read it exactly like that in my head and then I can't even focus on what the person is trying to ask or say to me.
So yes, poorly written texts are a big turn off for me too. Gag.
i hate it. i once was talking to this guy who put a million exclamation points after everything he texted.. no matter what it was... everything deserved a little excitement, in his mind. it drove me insane. i don't even know why. spelling errors are so much worse. using 'N' instead of and, 'Y' instead of why, etc. makes you look like an idiot. or, at least, too lazy to spell out a three letter word.
@melanieve@xanga - LOL i do that too! i'm always wondering if they actually say it out loud like that
@thisiswhereItellyoueverything@xanga - I'm just as baffled.
Poor grammar is one thing but your really going to nit pick at people because they use certain symbols and smiley faces? And did you ever think that he texts that way to save time? Sounds like something an intelligent person would do. Or better those funny symbols or faces are used to convey emotion? Something that text is completely devoid of.
To actually answer the question the only time I have ever been turned off by texting was when I had to actually put "Lol" after every joke or playful remark I made to a particular woman because she was so insecure that she took everything I said in a negative context or as an attack against her. Or better yet, if I didn't reply to a message within five minutes of it being sent to me she panicked and thought something was wrong.
Same. I really can't stand it when a guy or my friends in general texts me lyke dis lls, or without any punctuation marks. How am I suppose to know when a sentence starts and ends?! I don't care if the letter of every first sentence isn't capitalized, but I want it to be readable at least.
Lately, a friend of mine has been texting me like this: "hi... how are you... hows the fam...". It really annoys me, because it looks like she's being forced to talk to me...
They weren't even all that excited for lunch :\
Misappropriation of ellipses, drives me nuts these days. Ellipses show and omission, you want to show a pause in speech or thought? dashes!-- I seem to be in the minority on this one though
That's a little picky... I mean, the guy is obviously (going by what you said) a total catch! He seems smart and completely appealing. Just the small fact that he uses text shorthand shouldn't be enough to make you want to not be with him. "He's lucky he is so irresistible...?" Are you serious? If he saw this, not only would he be really offended (or hurt, or both) but I'm pretty sure he would leave YOU, instead, and find someone totally better and less shallow and picky.
It's a TEXT. There are no rules that say you have to be proper and eloquent. It's a short, instant message. You write what you need and you hit send and get back to your life. Texts are meant to be two pages at the most. I'm willing to bet that if he started spelling everything out and sending you complete thoughts in sentences, we'd hear back from you about how annoying it is that he sends you over three pages of texts at a time.
Get over it. Really. As long as the message gets across, that's all that matters. And if you are REALLY that in to him, you will be willing to look past the fact that he doesn't use proper grammar in every text and not saying things like, ugh, "He's lucky he is so good looking otherwise I would turn him down."
Posh.
Haha, those types of text messages are nothing. Just wait until you start getting drunk texts. I've been the recipient of those many times. Not only are they embarrassing to read ("You know what I love you? You have the most attractive butt I've ever seen") but they can be downright offensive ("You should come over right now. We can **** all night. Stop being a tease and stop being a virgin already.") Yeah. I broke up with both of those guys, thankfully.
@sinnerd1@xanga - That's starting to bug me too. I got really into putting "..." in every sentence, but once someone explained to me where they actually go (I don't remember learning it in school lol) I tried to stop. I still catch myself doing it sometimes.
I hate spelling errors period. Texting, status updates, emails, etc. I
use Firefox (and I thought everyone else did too) and it spell checks
everything. Smart phones have it too. There is no excuse for spelling
anything wrong. I do, however, understand when stupid iPhones correct
your spelling and put the wrong word in and you don't
notice it until you hit "send." I immediately send the correct word
though. If you don't, that annoys me too.
I also can't stand when people use no punctuation!! I can't figure out what the hell they're trying to say!
I don't really give a shit, as long as I know the guy isn't like that irl. My boyfriend texts so poorly that I'm pretty much immune to badly written messages by now.
Shorthand. You're judging anyone who texts like this because of shorthand.

Do you realize how STUPID that makes you sound????
i dont care, it's just text messages. if you have such a problem with their shorthand, then just CALL them.
What's wrong with the second one about lunch???? :) I mean I love food too!!!! D:
LOL. I only get irked by spelling. I know I used to be the one who "typed lyk dis, srsly. y u dun lyk it?" But yeah.. no more of that please.
idk, I love using smiley faces
my guy uses slang and calls me cutesy pet names and I find it so adorable
it does help that he is soooooooo cute and I'm imagining his cute puppy dog eyes looking at me when he is texting me
I do the same thing
what I can't stand is if they use all CAPS LOCK, because I see it as them being condescending and yelling at me
I texted a guy, who used a lot of big vocabulary and it was like talking to sherlock holmes and I was imagining him in a british accent, only he had no accent. sometimes he used spelling bee type of words that I had to look up
so I had to look up some monstrous and obscure words in my next reply. it became a spelling bee competition and wasn't fun after a while
it might make me go , "ehhh", but i won't be turned off
Texts don't bother me THAT much. I mean, you do have some character restrictions, and unless you own a smartphone (I don't yet) it's mad annoying to type anything! But AIM or Skype is a whole different problem! If they can't spell or use proper grammar, I get turned off instantly. I did have two guys who were cute enough that I overlooked their poor English skills on internet chat services, and both of them ended badly, mostly because I found out that they were exactly as stupid as they sounded on Skype.
