  • I'm an Immigrant Magnet

All my life I was never really hit on too much. I'm black, and every now and then I'd get the occasional flirty black guy to ask for my number, but it didn't happen all that often. I had a few awkward phases throughout the middle-high school range and it wasn't until college that I really fully "bloomed" so to speak. But once that happened, I started to notice a trend in the type of guys that were approaching me: they were all foreign, as in, they were all at least born in another country.

My first real date was with a Turkish guy. My first kiss was with a Bulgarian guy, second with an Armenian, and third (my current boyfriend) Russian. I've gotten hit on by Polish guys, British guys, Australian, Indian, Brazilian, Filipino, I mean I could go on.

And the only reason I know the exact ethnicities of these guys is because many have had accents, and most of them try to integrate their foreign-ness into some kind of pickup line, or at least use it to make themselves seem interesting.  It's just so funny.

I've heard so many "I bet you can't guess where I'm from." or "Did you know I'm from (insert country here)?" that it surprises me when someone is just from the US! (In fact, I rarely get hit on by non-black American guys period.) Most of them have the same story too: "I didn't even speak any English when I came to America from (exotic land) when I was six."

Even my boyfriend thought he was cool being Russian until I told him he wasn't any different than the rest. He couldn't pinpoint any one thing about me that would make me, an African-American girl, particularly attractive to all these non-American guys. He did mention however, that being in America and dating a black girl is like "living the dream" because it's something you can't really do in Russia. One, because there aren't many black girls there in the first place and two, they're not as open to interracial dating there as they are here.

I'm very curious to know, is there any particular type of person that is consistently attracted to you?
