237 Reasons to Have Sex... Is Yours on the List?
A New York Times article published about four years ago stated that from a survey of 400 students and volunteers from/near the University of Texas, there are 237 recorded reasons that humans have sex. Those 237 reasons were then voted on by another group of 1,500 people and every reason list got more than one vote. After the article was published, readers were able to contribute to NYTimes's TierneyLab to add onto this already long list (and they also asked for reasons for saying no to sex).
A few interesting ones I never thought of before:
#5. Someone dared me.
#7. I wanted to feel closer to God.
#93. I wanted a ‘‘spiritual’’ experience.
#131. It seemed like good exercise. (Hitting the bed instead of the gym seems awesome!)
#146. I wanted to keep warm.
#160. I wanted to change the topic of conversation.
#173. I wanted to get rid of a headache.
#181. It was an initiation rite to a club or organization.Among the men and women in the study, the top reason was "I was attracted to the person."
The doctors who conducted this study also separated these reasons into four categories:
1) Physical ("I was horny")
2) Goal attainment ("I wanted a promotion")
3) Emotional ("I wanted to life my partner's spirits")
4) Insecurity ("I wanted to keep my partner happy")Click here to read the full list.

A lot of them are fairly similar. It's easier for me to sum my reasons up into a composite of several of the 237: it feels good, I like my partner.
The God one is intriguing.

Because I wanted sex.
Because my boyfriend wanted sex.

And "The person smelled nice" as an excuse made me giggle.
Also, I have sex when I'm horny -shrugs- Sometimes if I'm with a guy and he's horny and I'm not in the mood I will suck it up anyway, but that depends on how much I love him/care about him.

Some of these reasons should not be reasons at all. For instance #169 on the actual list: "I wanted to give someone else a sexually transmitted disease." Whoever this person was, he/she deserves to die in the most horrendous way.
My husband is in the military and he used to use the exercise one, joking that he got PT twice a day. :)
169 was fucked up, since when do you WANT to give AIDS to people?! fucking hell, some people might be douchebags to you but there's a limit. unscrewing the saltshaker so they fuck up their food = acceptable. fucking them so they get AIDS from you = not acceptable.
