  • Red, White & Black-and-Blue: He Broke Up With Me on The Fourth of July!

I don't know what it is about July but it has either been a hit or miss with me and there was a time when I considered it to be one of the most unluckiest of months. I never seem to have substantial plans for the 4th and it always highlights the fact that I am without a boyfriend to celebrate America's independence. Fortunately enough for me, I can laugh at this situation but two years ago I actually had the worst 4th of July of all time when my boyfriend of 8 months broke up with me.

It was two weeks before the infamous day where people make an excuse to not work, drink excessively, and have a romantic weekend with their loved ones. I was asking "Bradley" to go to fire-island with me and stay in a house all by ourselves. You would think that any 19 year old boy would take a girl up on the offer but instead he replied, "I have to see what my parents are doing." Frustrated, I told my mom while grocery shopping with her and she asked, "Is he gay?" I could always count on her to bring comedy into the fact that my boyfriend seemed to show no interest in spending the weekend alone with me, let alone sleep with me.

At this point she believed I should have broken it off with him but I felt alone and I really only had him for a social life while I was home from college. It was a poor excuse to stay with someone but it was true. His constant want to be with his friends over me caused me to pick various fights with him and while every gut instinct told me we should not be together, I still clung onto whatever we had that was left.

A few days later, it was the fourth and I had no plans. That same night while I was home alone Bradley called me up from another party and said, "I think we should break up." I forced him to come to my house so he could say it to my face like a big boy but when I opened my door to see him he looked as if he wanted nothing more than to run away. After he told me that he didn't love me and that he had been wanting to break up for months I told him to get the fuck out of my house. At least he didn't break up with me on my birthday...today I can smile knowing this year my plans are much better, but I will never forget the time I was broken up with on the fourth of July!

Ever been broken up with on a holiday? Better yet have you ever been broken up with on your birthday? How will you be celebrating Independence Day?

No i actually haven't been broken up with on a holiday, but my ex boyfriend did, however break up with me on our anniversary. it was our second round of 4 months. and he broke up with me because, or so he claims, that we would never get to hang out just because my mom told me i couldn't ride in the car with him after he was caught getting drunk the night my bestfriends house got busted by Task Force. i was 15.

Holidays don't mean much to me. It wouldn't make it any worse if my significant other broke up with me on Valentine's Day or my birthday.

Honestly, when it comes down to it, I've technically done all the breaking up--though one of them I was pretty much forced into it, he was just too gutless to do it himself.  I did break up with a guy a week or two before Valentine's Day, but never on an actual holiday.

Uhhh my first ex broke up with me a few days after a horrible v-day date and my recent one dumped me a few days before Halloween, which is about 2 weeks away from my birthday-_- douchebags!!

I've never been broke up with on a holiday.  But the month of December is a tad bit depressing for me.  On the other side though I did break up with a girl on her birthday.  She deserved it though.  Fucking olympic speed skaters and what not.

We broke up the day after my birthday because our friends convinced him that it was a dick move haha.. But it really wasn't a bad breakup, we both knew it was for the better and we're still really good friends now (3 years later). I guess that's not the terrible story in vein with this post though..

Wow that's terrible. I feel like the person doing the heartbreaking should be more cordial and take holidays into account before they break-up with someone.

My now ex and I had been without a title since the summer of 09 but still dated throughout my senior year after that. I had been a bitch to him previously in the fall but we were okay, or at least I thought we were. When Valentines day came up I asked him the week before if he wanted to hangout, maybe go get dinner. I had planned out this sexy outfit and everything for later. He ignored me that entire weekend then told me the day after Valentines Day he had been seeing another girl and wanted to stop doing things. But it's fine, because my bf now made this past Valentines day the best one ever :)

My birthday is the 4th of July so if some dude had the nerve to break up with me that day he would be heartless.
