For the last two weeks or so I’ve been traveling around the United States to get some perspective and just take some time for myself and get away. When I flew to New Orleans two weeks ago I stayed at a hostel which I haven’t done since my trip to Europe many years ago. It was great to meet new people--people that were from not only from other states but other countries as well, that have been traveling through the United States on a holiday.
Interestingly enough, I met a really cool guy from Australia right before I left. We met when I overhead him talking to the hostel director about a bed that had opened up that night. I didn’t want to be stuck in an RV that the hostel had with just two guys, so after talking with him he gave me his bed in one of the mixed dorm rooms instead.
My new Aussie friend and I spent one fabulous night together in New Orleans. (No sex so get your minds out of the gutter.) We went to a Jazz Festival, hung out in the French Quarter, and he fed me beignets at the famous Café Dumont. Great company and wonderful scenery--I couldn’t have asked for anything more. As luck would have it, we were going to be in Las Vegas during the same time so there were no goodbyes, just “See you in a week.”

When we met up in Vegas the time spent together was wonderful. One of the best times I’ve had in Vegas personally. After four days of walking the strip, sipping cocktails, gambling, and pure debauchery (just kidding…) we had to say goodbye because he was off to California. I didn’t think saying goodbye would A- be hard and B- so sad, but actually it was a lot of both.
I know when traveling you meet lots of very cool people which I did, but in this case I actually got closer to one in particular. I can’t remember another time when I started to have feelings for someone so fast, and having it feel so right. He has the cutest smile and I’m just a sucker for a guy with an accent, but most importantly he is fun to be around and a great person to talk to.
At this time he is in San Diego, hopefully taking surf lessons as I write this. His vacation stay in the States will end on July 10th when he returns back to Australia. He may come here to Seattle where I am, or we may meet up in California, but everything is up in the air at the moment. I hope to see him again and reconnect before he has to go back to Australia, but whatever happens I have to say this Aussie totally captivated my heart and I’ll always remember this wonderful experience of International Romance.
Have you ever had this happen to you while traveling?

Go to him.
Seriously though that is a wonderful story. I met a few girls on my travel's, but nothing quite like this! All I can say is good for you :) Maybe something like this will happen to me in the future...
mmm beignets. I all of a sudden got a craving for pralines.
Great story. I've never had a romance as sweet as that one. I wish I had a story of my own similar to yours to look back on.
Did you get a contact number so maybe you can meet up once again?
Or you could always visit California!
