How Old Do You Think I Am?

Once, almost ten years ago, I was in Maine, snowboarding with a friend. We were staying in this condo complex that had a pool and hot tub, and we were returning to our condo that Friday night from lounging in the hot tub when the bus that shuttles skiers to and from the mountain during the day pulled up next to us.From the bus, several boys started shouting at us. "Get on the bus! Get on the bus!" They chanted. We looked at each other, two long-time friends who were always down to get into a little trouble together, and got on the bus, which apparently turned into a party bus after 8 o clock at night.
I sat next to a very cute boy named Will, who was nineteen. He asked me how old I was, and I told him to guess. "Eighteen," he said, and I smiled in response, and that was all that was said about that.
I hit it off with Will and my friend hit it off with his friend Jordan, and we all skied together the next day and met up the next night, and the same thing happened the next day and the next night. Will even sang to me once, one of my favorite songs, when it was very late and his friends were out of earshot, which I found very charming.
Then my friend and I had to leave, and Will insisted that we keep in touch. So I went back home and he started calling me every day. Then he started talking about coming down to visit. Then he said: "I want you to be my girlfriend."
Now, truthfully, I liked Will a lot. But at this point I could no longer justify keeping up the implicit lie that had started back in the bus where we'd first met. So I said: "Will, I have to tell you something. I'm not eighteen. I'm fifteen."
Yep... He didn't want to be my boyfriend anymore after that.
Have you ever let someone believe you were younger or older than you actually are? Did you ever tell them the truth?

i actually have the opposite problem. im almost 19 and people still think im 15 or 16. i always get carded everywhere i go -_-
I honestly think Will did the right and responsible thing. More guys should be like him. Interesting story though.
@zzzzzulavalle@xanga - come on, you're still only 18....lol I'm 24 and still get carded.
@Kittyluve@xanga - @zzzzzulavalle@xanga - Don't worry Ladies! You'll still look good when everyone else has wrinkles!
I did this last year with a boy buddy of mine, he thought I was eighteen when I was really seventeen and now he thinks I'm nineteen. I still haven't told him and he probably won't ever find out bahahah I don't think he cares either, even if he did :/ It's all legal now!!! ;]
Nope, I don't need to lie about my age and never have. Rare is the person who guesses even close to my age though. Sometimes I tease and say I'm several years older just to get a shock out of them, but then I tell the truth. haha I have a 13-year-old daughter and am a little miffed people assume I was a teen-age mom. lol I wasn't! But I know they think that because I don't look old enough (in their opinion not mine) to have a teenager.
People always think I'm younger than I am. I usually let them think that. haha. I've never been thought to be older, that I know of.
Well of course he didn't. Jesus, you could've gotten him thrown in jail. XD And you two are at completely different stages in your lives....
Here's the thing. For me, I usually give people the honest answer. I was seventeen last year, eighteen now, and both of these ages mean I'm acceptable to teenagers /and/ people in their twenties. By nineteen though, my partner had better at least be eighteen. When I'm twenty? No more teenagers for me.
You however are fifteen. Most people that lie about their age are either really young or moderately old and at that point, it's necessary to be honest about your age. Law gets involved at your level. People in their thirties and forties need to think about how much longer they'll be fertile. Age is important then--though don't worry, in two or three years, you'll reach a window where age doesn't matter for about a decade... But then it matters again.
Point being: be honest for now. You can seriously mess people up with that stuff at your age. XD
P.S. Why I care: I accidentally ended up dating someone in their mid-thirties when I was
sixteen because we both lied and said we were twenty and we both fell
for each other's lie. It's a good thing our parting was amiable because I
could have charged him with statutory rape and he could have changed me
with rape by deception. BAD plan.
@AtLeastWereStillAlive@xanga - haha thanks :)
Most people have pegged me for being at least ten years younger. However, I always tell them my actual age. I think I'm older than the average Xangan. I'm 38. :)
I haven't really felt the need to lie. they usually laugh at me when I tell them my actual age like I can't buy a lottory ticket without the clerk questioning my age and laughing at me due to not believing me, because I'm a petite asian, who looks like I'm still in high school, but I'm past college age. I think they think I'm younger by the way I dress. people think I'm younger when I wear sneakers and jeans and slightly older when I wear high heels with my outfit
usually older guys lied to me about their age, by saying that they were younger, because they thought that I'd be turned off if I knew their actual age, but I actually prefer older guys. once I find out that they lied, I don't really trust them anymore. I'd rather they just be honest and let me know in the beginning, so I can decide if I like him or not due to his age, which is only one factor amongst many things that I consider.
You're gonna get some poor bastard locked up someday.
@GettingClosertoFine@xanga - she was 15 ten years ago. that makes her twenty five now :P
and i've sorta been throguh age deception by proxy. lol. my boyfriend dated a girl who he thoguht was his age (18 at the time) he found out on her birthday that she was actually only TURNING 16, and he dropped her like a hot potato. bitch move on her part, that's for sure :/
people tend to think i'm younger than i am. i got my hair cut a few weeks ago, and the hairdresser asked me if i was old enough to have my driver's liscense. yes, yes i am, and i've had it for six years. lol
My boyfriend and I met in university (he was going for his second Bachelors, which I knew before I knew his actual age but I'm 21 and he'll be 26 soon). We always joke that since I get ID'd everywhere I ever go and have been able to pass as a 14 year old - which is a couple years younger than I'm comfortable with looking, haha - and he rarely ever gets ID'd, and never when he's got stubble and/or a beard going, I'm going to get him arrested someday... and also we're not allowed to go out in public together if I don't have ID on me to prove to any cop cruisers that slow down suspiciously near us that he's not a pedophile.
I've never intentionally lied about my age though. I've never seen a reason.
@AbnormalButSane@xanga - Same here. Very frustrating..
I never lie about my age. I'm still 19, what do I have to lie about? lol. I am asked all the time if I'm fifteen or sixteen, though. Sometimes old people even ask me why I'm skipping school when I go out during the weekdays =_=
Well done for being honest. I knew a 13 year old girl who pretended to be 16 years old, right up to the point a friend of mine was about to sleep with her (he was 17), and then she told him, like literally as they were lying naked together. My point is a lot of teenage girls (not all obviously) would have continued the deception out of curiousity, and got in far too deep. They don't know what they are doing, and they can't handle the consequences, and the law becomes involved.
My friend walked away. Guys with that sort of self control are rare.
I'm 23 and people think I'm 15.
Recently I had to substitute for a teacher and the kids in class were confused. I told them I'm their teacher for today, and they were like "but you're 15."I don't like it. At 23 I want to look 23. But I hope someday when I'm old people will still think I'm 8 years younger.@Kittyluve@xanga - I'm 26 and still get carded. I in no way look like I'm near 21 lol.. it's not flattering, it's annoying. :(
this is why you dont lie about your age
I'm just wondering why you didn't tell him your real age after he guessed incorrectly.
@MochaSprinkle@xanga - I get flattered, and you should be too. Just watch, you'll still be hot stuff when your 30 and 40. ;)
@Footballblogs@xanga - They are rare. Good for your friend!
Most people tend to think I'm like 16, when I'm actually 18, so no.... I do not let them go ahead thinking that. Haha.
i'm 21 and nobody believes me i'm older than 17. i'm ok with that, but i'm always upfront about my age.
I tend to look younger than I am. When I was 19, I got pulled over for not looking old enough to drive unattended simply because I wasn't wearing make-up. LOL.
I also feel really badly for Will. I would have been pissed if I were him.
