  • Women Are Like Water

I've been thinking a lot about women: what makes us unique; what lends us power; how we see ourselves and each other; how we appear to other humans; what we are capable of.

Today I came across this quote, which I remember scribbling into a journal when I was sixteen or seventeen years old, from a passage in Giovanni's Room by James Baldwin in which Giovanni is persuading the main character to forget about his girlfriend in France and give HIM a chance instead:

Women are like water. They can be tempting like that, and they can be that treacherous, and they can seem to be that bottomless, you know? And they can be that shallow. And that dirty.

Fellow women and men alike: What do these words make you think?
