  • The Surprise Anniversary

My boyfriend and I celebrate our anniversary each month. Usually we do small things, like go to a new restaurant, see a movie, or go hiking. Any activity that allows us to spend quality time together will fit the bill. As we approached our 10 month mark, we didn't make any special plans to acknowledge it. We spent that evening together and that was more than enough of a celebration to make me happy.

Fast-forward to the weekend after the anniversary. It's Saturday and I'm at work when I receive a text message from my boyfriend asking me if I would like go to dinner that night. He says he will make reservations for 7 PM and that I must be at his house by 6:30 sharp.

My Saturday ends up being the most stressful day of the week and by the time I get off work, all I want to do is sleep. Unfortunately, I still had to walk my dog his usual 5 miles and shower and somehow make it to my boyfriend's house by 6:30. Chaos ensues as I run alongside my dog for an hour under the hot sun and then rush back home to take a 4.5 minute shower and then off again to my boyfriend's house.

When I arrive, I receive a message saying to meet him on his front porch, so I walk around to the front of his house and what do I find? His wicker chairs and table are set up for dinner for two!He made tortellini stuffed with Italian sausage and cheese along with bread sticks filled with melted cheese! I was incredibly touched by his thoughtfulness and grateful that we didn't have to drive to a restaurant after all because he had brought the restaurant to us. This was his anniversary gift to me.

And the best was yet to come-- he bought me a strawberry cake for dessert!

Has the special person in your life done something thoughtful for you recently?
