  • Never Underestimate the Power of a Good Sense of Humor

Yes, I'd love it if the man of my dreams climbed up a vine, into my bedroom window, and surprised me with two tickets to Paris for the weekend for an impromptu wedding in the gardens of Versailles just as much as the next girl.

And I would never bash romance, especially since I spent the last two and half years with a caveman of a boyfriend, begging him to show me some. But sometimes, you can't go wrong with some good old-fashioned humor.

The truth is (as any girl who has set her hair on fire during a candlelit dinner, or slipped and fallen during a strip tease knows), most romantic moments end up being awkward. Especially if it's not the usual nature of the relationship. But a sense of humor will never fail you.

As Lorelai Gilmore put it, "You want someone cool to hang out with until you drop dead." It's important to have someone who will laugh with you through your best and worst moments, and be your friend as well as your partner.

This is how true happiness is achieved in relationships, not through showering each other with gifts, poems, and overly romantic gestures. Although that wedding in Versailles would be pretty awesome, I want to be able to count on the groom to laugh with me for the rest of my laugh.

Which do you prefer: intense romance or a great sense of humor?
