  • Zoraya Judd Wins 2010 International Pole-Dancing Championship

Remember the article about pole dancing we ran a few weeks ago?

A few days ago Japan hosted the 2010 International Pole-Dancing Championship and American Zoraya Judd took first!

According to Japan Today, performers got four minutes and two poles about 12 feet (three meters) tall to show what they could do. Stiletto heels were checked backstage, and rules required outfits be “dignified and appropriate for athletic competition.”

Right now, in the pole dancing world, some performers are interested in elevating the perceptions of pole dancing. Although many dancers are happy with people acknowledging the skill pole dancing requires and being able to entertain, others would like to make it more serious. Olympic serious.

“I think we deserve that. It’s very physical," said Judd. "But the Olympics are still a long way off. And I think the girls who like their high heels should be able to continue to do what they want to do.”

    What say you?
