  • She Freaked Out On Me Because I Watch FOX News

I am not a fan of Fox News. Personally, I think it’s a biased network. One thing I learned while in school (studying in the media industry) is that when it comes to reporting the news, you’re supposed to be as impartial as possible. In my opinion, Fox News isn’t. That is why I don’t watch the cable network.

But when it comes to my local news coverage, I have to say that Fox 5 DC is right on top of things. I tend to watch them in the mornings and early evenings due to their style of covering the local news. Unlike their cable affiliate, Fox 5 (here in DC) is quite fair in their reporting.

Well, years ago I made the comment that I watched Fox 5 News (the local affiliate here in DC) on a first date with someone and after she heard the word “Fox,” all H-E-L-L broke loose!

At that point she lit right into me. She went on to ask me, “How in the world can you support that right wing nonsense?” She even called me ignorant! Mind you, this was someone I just met for the first time. She went on and on and on and I couldn’t get a word in edgewise. So after she finally finished ranting, I said to her, “I would have to agree with you regarding Fox News in general." But, as I previously stated, I think that Fox 5 (the local affiliate) is superb.

At that point her face dropped and she said, “Oh I thought you meant the cable network. Yeah, I think the local affiliate is great too!” At that point, I was ready for that date to be over.

Now all of that was completely uncalled for. Even if I did support Fox News, regardless of how she felt, it was just wrong to call me ignorant and spaz out like that.  Whatever happened to respecting someone’s different point of view? Needless to say, after the check was delivered, I never saw her again.

Has a prospective love interest ever turned you off politically? Should something like this even matter on a date?

Is this a repost from a couple of days ago?

  • UnconventionalButterfly@xanga

Wasn't this already on mancouch or something?

  • BingleBot@xanga

    Well..apparantly it mattered to her..so. =P

  • laytexduckie@xanga

The right that you can agree to disagree is good. But yeah, calling you ignorant was the big mistake. It can be the same as religion. It won't get in the way if you don't let it.

  • theandyman1982@xanga

Next time pull out your I pod and start watching some porn. That should piss them off good :)  And if any person wants to act like that for ANY reason then you are lucky you saw it before you got too involved. Personally I would have walked out while she was still in the middle of her rant and left her stupid *ss to pay the bill.

  • irishluck20@xanga

So what do you watch then? CNN? MSNBC? Because I'm pretty sure they aren't any more fair than FOX is and actually, at most times, are more biased than FOX. Just sayin'

  • CelestDiggory@xanga

I watch ABC7 news. Because Chicago is awesome with their news.

  • laurenloveee21@xanga

No, she shouldn't have behaved that way. It was totally uncalled for. I was raised to be respectful of other people's opinions whether I agree or not. I think you handled that situation very well. I have to say though, that I find CNN to be quite biased as well.

  • sunflowersforlove@xanga

My parents watch Fox news and I personally like most of the viewpoints, but I'm pretty conservative for a college student so that might be why. I don't think it was appropriate for her to behave that way, especially on a first date. She didn't even ask you to clarify what you meant before freaking out. People get pretty crazy about politics, not like any of them know how to vote anyway. :)

  • TheCheshireGrins@xanga

Eh, at least you found out that she was a few fries short of a happy meal before you continued dating her. There is a huge difference between the local Fox channel and Fox News. I think the bigger issue is that she jumped all over you and didn't let you explain more about which Fox you were talking about (although I'm more a fan of ABC 7).  I'm not personally a fan of Fox News but I wouldn't freak out if someone I was with was a fan.

  • AuCinema@xanga

I hate people who are so hyper-political that they let it invade every aspect of their lives. It's so off-putting, whether I agree with their political views or not.

  • flawsnall@xanga

FOX News IS bias. It's a fact. But her reaction was unnecessary.

  • theandyman1982@xanga

@PseudoEuphoric@xanga - Who said Im single? Cause Im not. I just dont date idiots like you.

  • PrincessPatriotII@xanga

All news reporting is biased because all humans are biased.

  • fatal_mess@xanga

    And CNN isn't bias?!

But to agree with you, you're right - she shouldn't have freaked out on you. Sounds like she's the ignorant one to not even give you a chance to explain yourself.

  • Eternal_Nocturne@xanga

Politics make strange bed fellows. This is just for pun of course.

However, I think that the date, like most other interviews, gives us a good idea what a relationship with that person can be like if pursued. If she gives you shit over the fucking newscasters; then that's a good sign the relationship is not worth pursuing. She would've given you shit about something and for that, then the date was over.

There's tolerance of another's ideas and beliefs. She can't do that, then there are problems.

  • theandyman1982@xanga

@PseudoEuphoric@xanga - And Im juvanile? You dont even make sense. Such a smart little girl you are. Why dont you go find some little liberal boy and get yourself a piece and maybe then even though you will still be an idiot you wont be so crabby.

  • Jayneisthebestest@xanga

No she shouldnt have freaked out on you. That was totally uncalled for, especially on the first date.

For me, the guys i date have to at least have the same general political ideals as me because i tend to talk about politics in everyday life. im not obsessed with them, but i make it known when i dont like something thats going on with the government or politicians. I also watch fox news. Why? Because CNN, MSNBC, and ABC are JUST as bias, if not more. Why do you think us conservatives call it the "liberal media"? Because fox news is the only station that makes it acceptable to have conservative veiws, or to not agree with a politician like *cough* obama. The liberal media is part of why he got elected. They covered his HOPE and CHANGE and didnt focus enough on what else he was going to do(or not do) to this country.  Not all of us are extreame however. i understand and respect when other people have different veiws, but liberals tend to think that conservatives are just extreamists, because we're prolife and anti government or something. There are extreamists on both sides, and people tend to forget that. I dont understand that. If we all believed in the same thing it would be a very boring life. There are extreamists in anything you do, not just politics. People need to learn to get over that people may believe differently than them and that we're not all the same. And we have the FREEDOM to do that and be who we want to be. People tend to forget that we have it good here in America.

  • x__RainOnHerParade@xanga

Yeah what a psycho. Regardless of how you feel, you should always respect someone else's opinion...just because you're you doesn' tmake you right. You don't just freak out on someone like that. Eesh.

  • splinter1591@xanga

I like fox news, i like the republican party better then the democrat one, so why would I watch the other news stations, which are biased toward the other party.

  • BimmerPhile@xanga

This is why you should *gasp!* get to know someone BEFORE you go on a date.

  • NightCometh@xanga

    Ah, the liberal expectation.
