  • Just a Quickie: Are Calloused Hands a Turn-off?

I like to work out a lot and one of my favorite exercises is pull ups.  The only downside to doing so many pull ups is that one tends to get calloused hands.

Now I personally like my callouses.  They're a sign of hard work to me.  Manly stuff.

But I've been told by other people that they're unattractive.  However, the same way women like hairy, manly men with scars, I figured callouses would fall under the same category.

Ladies, if you met someone with calloused hands, would it be an immediate turn-off?  What's your opinion on that, or scars and other "manly" physical attributes?

well, it can be for some people, but i like guitarists and they have the same problem haha

I actually would be less attracted to a guy with super soft hands becauase it means he has an aversion to hard labor. I like my men manly. This guy I've been hanging out with has callouses because he works out every day. Hardcore.

To me, the only turn-off related to hands are really long nails (ew ew ew ew). I don't care if you've got a Megan Fox thumb, hangnails or callouses--hands are hands, as long as they function, who cares?

I kind of agree; it's a sign of strength and ruggedness, aka your hard work. My left hand's fingertips are calloused too, due to years of guitar playing. If someone found that unattractive, I'd call that ridiculous.

  • lifesdessert@xanga

Slightly calloused...no big deal, rough hands is kinda attractive because its a sign that a guy is good with his hands and does work without being afraid of getting dirty.  Its good to have someone who fixes stuff and is hands on.  BUT if you know your hands get beat up from working out, you should make some effort to protect them by either moisturizing your hand before you go to sleep at night, or wearing work out gloves.  Reptile hands can be just as repulsive as girly soft hands.

  • thesouverian@xanga

I just wear gloves when I work out.

And make sure they're not softer than my girlfriend's hands.

  • Raychle22@xanga

I think they are...attractive I mean...it shows masculinity to me and that the guy isn't afraid to work hard for what he wants....I think the only time they aren't okay is if they get really dirty or if a guy knows he has them and touches me with them to where they rub kinda hard...I don't like that lol but overall, I'd put them on the sexy list lol :)  I think scars go on the sexy list too...it just seems manly to me. hope that helps

My fiance has calloused hands because he works on a farm, and I think it's sexy. Of course, his touch is sexy too. I like his rough hands. Haha.

  • prettynpink628@xanga

I have callouses on my hands because I hold my pen incorrectly, haha!

I think they're fine. And calloused fingers typically mean musician, which is attractive to me.
  • jzrocker@xanga

only slightly calloused, meaning the skin has toughened or is rough. It does have that "manly" feel about it, but if it's yellowy and peeling, it's not attractive.

  • raveii@xanga

When it comes to guys, I care about touch and texture; so yeah, I think callouses would be a bit of a turn off at first

    but

the thought him being such a hard worker would keep me around heheh :3 Besides, I'd prefer calloused hands over hands that were softer than my own :P

With other manly stuff :1. Hairy chests and backs = me no likey, but hairy limbs are okay.2. Scars - I think I have a bit of a scar fetish >w
  • PeriwinkleAdonis@xanga

That picture is disturbing. Just wear gloves? They make them for that very purpose.

  • substitutesoul@xanga

YES. My ex was a drummer so he'd get callouses everywhere on his hands and fingers. It would drive me up a wall and it's totally distracting while holding hands. Eventually, on a late night I began trying to pick them off (which was more gross than the callous in itself but it had to be done).

On the other hand, a man with soft hands is even more unattractive. Rough is fine, slightly calloused is fine, but callouses in the picture and on my ex boyfriend's hands are definitely not fine.

  • jeezshoua@xanga

A little callouses is fine, but like the inserted picture above, I'll be a little.. turn off.  Honestly, I wouldn't want it to touch or rub me anywhere.  It'll feel.. scrappy.  Just saying.

I also find hairy man unattractive as well.  Scars, I can live with that.

  • shinoseishi@xanga

Like others have said, I think it's the degree of the callouses.  If a man has delicate hands that are softer then mine, it'd be a turn off.  If all I can focus on are the callouses on his hands, that'd be a turn off too.  I work out a lot, and I have to wear gloves when I use the machines because I started getting callouses.

I don't like men with super hairy chests though.
  • harleyy93@xanga

I've never thought of it, but if they look like the ones in the picture then I have to admit... not the biggest turn on.

  • huestar@xanga

Don't care. And i have callouses on my hand from rock climbing..Im sure men will love it..harhar.

  • TheCatInTheCradle@xanga

my boyfriend is a drummer and guitarist who did a lot of manual labor in high school.... and he still seriously has very soft hands. it is the strangest thing.

i really don't like the look of callouses, but i don't mind the feel. anyway, how talented you are with your hands makes all the difference, if you know what i mean

  • kyukyucar@xanga

mm for a guy, i guess it's sorta hot in a way

holding a calloused hand would just make me feel more of "wow, my bf's a man" sorta thing, but if i had to look at it... that's another story :(

  • Masked_Melody@xanga

No way! Some of the sexiest things result in callouses... like playing the guitar, working out, or doing tough manual labor. I think calloused hands are hott, because it seems really manly. :)

  • valeriebeth04@xanga

the ones in the picture would be a turn off

  • bonezzzzzz@xanga

My boyfriend has callouses on his fingers because he plays guitar. I don't like the feel of them..but him playing guitar is sexy. Especially naked. So win !

  • raspbxrrryjam@xanga

You say these are the same women who like hairy, manly men with scars. But... are we talking (LOL) Hugh Jackman hairy, manly men? Or ACTUAL IRL hairy, manly men. Because PLENTY of women like that shit in movies and on tv... but not irl.
Imo - Callouses are only a turn off for women who like pussies.

They wouldn't be a problem for me unless they were constantly dried out and dead skin is peeling off... because it hurts to have all your delicate skin scratched off when someone touches you. If that's the case... tape your hands before doing pullups.

  • my_horizon@xanga

No, I only think it's a turn off if it looks unhealthy, like the picture shown above. If your hands are a normal color and the callouses are mostly flesh-colored or slightly clear, I don't think that's an issue as long as you seem hygienic in general.

For some reason, if a guy seems unhygienic AND has calloused hands, I see him as being even more unhygienic.
Then again...I do prefer soft fingers when they're pleasing me down there.. ;)
  • ulvene@xanga

tattoos, scars, calloused hands, muslces, moderate veins = yum
hairy backs, chest hair, general furryness = no go

  • JusticeCho@xanga

Seems like most of these girls like callouses, so you're doing good heh.  If they are getting overboard though gloves work well.  I do a lot of pull ups and usually go to the gym about 5 days a week, but my callouses are barely noticeable.  Though my softer hands could be mostly genetic, I don't know.
