Playlists Are For Lovers
Music is a huge part of our everyday lives and, for many of us, music is also closely associated with love.
Every Monday we are going to bring y'all songs or videos that have helped us get through the good and the bad, songs that have special significance to us, songs that we think are terrific and want to share with our awesome readers. Go ahead and leave us suggestions for next week in the comments!
This week we have a mix of songs that came out recently and other that hearken back a ways.
A Song For When You're Feeling Lovey-Dovey "The Luckiest" by Ben Folds
Ben Folds is just an excellent musician, and this is one of my favorite songs he's done. It's super cute. Actually, my friends who recently got married (which is weird and makes me feel old) had this as their wedding song! It's good for a listen whenever you have that warm fuzzy feeling.
A Song For Doin' It "Gold Dust," Flux Pavilion Remix of a DJ Fresh song
Ha, I swear one of these weeks I'll share a song for lovin' that isn't electronic music, but it's one of my passions, and I feel like it isn't popularized as much as it should be. So here's a song for a sultry evening!
A Song to Cry To "Woke Up New" by The Mountain Goats
Breaking up is the worst, and no one knows that better than crazy poetic indie musicians. Check out this Mountain Goats song, home to one of the prettiest melodies and some of the most spot-on language and imagery I've ever noticed in music.
A Song About That A-hole Ex "Goodbye Earl" by The Dixie Chicks
All right, so I'm sure that this song is super irrelevant to your past relationship experiences (I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that you and your best friend never poisoned your ex with chick peas), but it's hilarious and I couldn't resist. Also this video is amusingly dramatic and super country.
A Song For Those in an LDR "West Coast" by Coconut Records
Man, LDRs suck, and they suck even worse when you finally visit your SO and then have to live him or her again. This song is for the moment where you wish you could run back through airport security and wrap your arms around your sweetheart.
