Double dating can be quite pricey. When my BF and I get together with another couple, it's always the typical dinner and a movie. Sounds simple, but it adds up! I'd say dinner and drinks would be about $50-$60 then another $40 for the movies (per couple).
If you're not up for spending that type of dough, here are 3 cheap double date options that you can pick from!
1. Invite your best couple friends over (after you’ve both had dinner) and watch your favorite movie together. Tell your friends to bring over a bottle of wine, whip together a few snacks and enjoy!
2. Bowling is surprisingly budget-friendly, especially on weekdays or during the day on Saturdays and Sundays. While there are plenty of flashy bowling spots, the old school ones do just fine; they’re usually way more affordable than the high-end places. A little competition is always fun; you could play guys against gals, couple against couple, older versus younger, whatever rolls your bowling ball! The losers can buy a round of drinks or snacks for the victors. Light beer and nachos at the snack shop won’t set you back too much.
3. Speaking of competition, invite a few of your couple friends over for a few rounds of your favorite board or card games. I know when we play Monopoly, it's intense! During rounds (and trash-talking of course) you can all munch on tasty homemade snacks or guilty pleasures like mini sandwiches, chips, and chocolate!!! Yum!
What are your ideas for cheap double dates?

Where do you go to watch your movies? It's pretty pricey. My hub and my movie tickets are like half the price of yours. But anyhows, when my hub and I go on double dates, we usually go out a little earlier (the price is also cheaper, too, in the day) or just have people come over to eat dinner with us and they can bring whatever they want. We usually cook simple meals that can feed a load of people. Easier on us.
board games?
$40 for two people at the movies?! That's insane. Don't get fooled into buying drinks and snacks - it's not worth it, especially if you've just been to dinner. Go to the grocery store, buy some cheap food and a bottle of water and sneak them in - you'll save yourself a fortune.
Anyway, I've never been a fan of double dates. They always seem forced and awkward to me.
@individually_surveys@xanga - Exactly. We buy snacks like at a dollar store or something. Much easier really.
Our ticket prices are usually around 5 dollars a person really. Or 3 dollars in the afternoon. It all depends on what time we go.
Actually these are good ideas. I've been on couple dates and actually they ordered pizza and we walked movies and played games together. It's quite effective. And fun too.
damn $40?! Thats a lot.
Board game nights are fun! Put on the radio, buy some cheep snacks and thats all the fun i'll ever need ;)
Consensus is that you pay way too damn much to go to the movies.
Double dates never work out for my fiance and me.....neither of us are good at meeting new people so I either struggle to get to know his friend's girlfriend or he struggles to get to know my friend's boyfriend. So we just stick to solo dates pretty much.
lol, i'm really shocked by the amount of people surprised at the price of the movies. 40 per couple is pretty accurate. Around us, tickets are 10.75 each. We'll usually bring our food in but we always get a drink & popcorn & that alone is usually never less than 10 bucks, even if you get the smallest sizes.
It sucks. =/
Dungeons and dragons after a dinner of lasagna and potato salad.
Good list, thanks! :)
In Manhattan movies are $13/ticket and then let's say you want to share a drink and popcorn -add another $8 to $12 depending on what you order. :(
$40?!?!? in english thats around £25-30! but in reality its just £12! o.o!
great list though! good old monopoly could get you anywhere ;);)
I'm really not against sneaking a bottle of water and my own snacks into the theatre. It may sound lame, but I like bringing healthier snacks when I'm watching a movie - and a thing of small popcorn and small water here is 10 dollars. I'm not up for paying that price! In NYC, a movie ticket is $13. Let's not even consider what a 3D movie ticket costs.
I'm all about Risk or Munchkin with cheap frozen pizza for dinner. Because everyone's so involved in the games, they're not paying attention to the food. :)
@airbornerose@xanga - Yeah, for real. Going to see a movie just drains all my money. If I have to see a movie (being forced by my friends), I only go to early bird showings when they are $6.50. And yeah, I sneak my food in too. :)
ughh...living in CA sucks for this reason.
Also, settlers of Catan. That is all.
