  • Best Dating Site Gimmick Ever? LITERARY Love Connections!

I'll be honest, I don't think very highly of dating/ compatibility sites because I prefer to see and interact with potential menfolk in person, which keeps my awkward encounters with creepy old dudes to a minimum.

But, while those sort of sites aren't for me, I HAVE heard they do work and are pretty reliable (reliable enough that 40 million Americans use them, anyway).

Over the years-- I'm ancient, clearly-- I've considered making a profile on one or two because I'm very curious to see what kind of questions these sites use to match people up, but my curiosity has never amounted to much because I have a great boy and  my gay friend uses them as an astonishingly effective way to hook up with numerous random older men. Obviously no incentive in sight.

So what is it that finally pushed me to seriously consider making a dating profile? A new dating service that matches people on their taste in books.

OK, maybe you think Alikewise.com is a stupid idea and that similar literary preferences won't keep arguments from occurring or pay the rent. But for a geek like me, good taste in books is a very serious way to earn my respect... and to turn me on. Rawr.

What would happen if Alikewise found me a man who appreciates Toni Morrison and Shakespeare, enjoys Stephen King and Aimee Bender, adores Raymond Carver or Kevin Wilson, and thinks Kurt Vonnegut is the bee's knees? My poor boyfriend might get a very unfortunate phone call in the near future.

What do you think of Alikewise? Would you try it? What literary preferences would intrigue you enough for a date? What kind of books would make you decline?
