Playlists Are For Lovers
Music is a huge part of our everyday lives and, for many of us, music is also closely associated with love.
Every Monday we are going to bring y'all songs or videos that have helped us get through the good and the bad, songs that have special significance to us, songs that we think are terrific and want to share with our awesome readers. Go ahead and leave us suggestions for next week in the comments!
This week we have a mix of songs that came out recently and other that hearken back a ways.
A Song to Fall In Love To: "Us" by Regina Spektor
Yeah, I'm a sucker for Regina. I saw her in concert once and basically peed my pants. Anyway, this song is super romantic (and not just because I want to make sweet, tender love to the singer). Also, this music video is super cool (albeit a tad hipster).
A Song to Get it On To: I Remember (Caspa Remix) by Deadmau5 and DJ Kaskade
I could be alone here, but I mostly prefer doin' it to music that's mostly devoid of lyrics (words distract me), so electronic music is perfect. Also, I thought I'd reach out to those of you who love electronic music! This song is full of movement and slow (kinda dirty) beats. It's certainly not for a romantic love makin' session, but if you want to shake it up a little in the boudoir, this song is for you. Also, I have yet to find a song that isn't better with a little bit o' dubstep. If you like this, you should also check out the Flux Pavilion Remix of Gold Dust by DJ Fresh.
A Song To Cry To: "Poke" by Frightenend Rabbit
I have to admit that it often seems like my iTunes library consists exclusively of sad Indie songs. One of my favorite bands, Frightened Rabbit, does this amazing song (well, all of their songs are amazing) that has some of the most beautiful and true lyrics I've ever heard. Also, the lead singer (Scott Hutchinson) is SCOTTISH, and his accent is DELICIOUS. If you just broke up with your long-term boyfriend, this is pretty much the perfect song to sit there and listen to while crying into your peanut butter and jelly sandwich. And trust me: you'll cry... especially because Scott recorded this version while playing in a gazebo during a thunderstorm. Lord.
A Song About Your A-Hole Ex: "True Affection" by The Blow
Is your ex a huge dick? Listen to this song and you'll quickly adopt that excellent "Fuck men!" attitude that we all welcome at some point in our lives. Besides, it's a great song.
A Song For Those in an LDR: "Fly My Ass" by Andrew Jackson Jihad
If your SO lives far away (and there's nothing worse than that), get all your frustrations (both sexual and emotional) with this angry song whose lyrics perfectly encompass the muddle of emotions that accompany your relationship. Also sorry that this video is basically not a video, but they're not really a popular band so it was the best I could do!
Enjoy!

Very... eccentric in a good way :)
Fantastic choices!
regina spektor's video is visually appealing but her falsetto/hiccup drunken slurred talking type of singing style is obnoxious and not romantic. I can't stand all of her songs
I like the deadmau5 & kaskade song. I feel frightened rabbit's gloom and will mourn along with my sammich harmonica. the blow's voices are soothing-I like it. andrew jackson jihad is very groovy-the guy on the left with the baby blue design on his shirt is hot
@TheSecretLifeOfPandas@xanga - Really? A period?
@sara1028 - it could have been a comma. or maybe i should have gone for a semi colon. best of both worlds eh?
LOVE Spektor. Thanks for the post :D
I've never heard of these people. Interesting.
Lovely suggestions. Andrew Jackson Jihad - very obscure - surprised to see it here!
WOOT! Thanks I'm looking forward to this
