October 11th is National Coming Out Day!
Support LGBT rights and celebrate National Coming Out Day, the INTERNATIONAL day (October 12 for those in the UK) for closeted folk to come out and for people everywhere to discuss LGBT Rights!
At my school, our LGBT group has a "coming out event" on this day every year. Members of the community share their stories of struggle and triumph. The event is open to all school members and many straight friends and supporters go. This year, Spectrum (our campus group) is also holding a candlelight vigil in remembrance of those who took their lives due to the struggles they faced because of their orientation.
Support LGBT rights by wearing gay pride symbols, make it your Facebook status, and take today to have a good discussion of the issues facing those who identify as LGBT.
Please share your coming out stories or leave encouraging comments for those who are ready to show their sexual orientation to the world!

The Edinboro Campus is having a candlelight vigil tonight for Tyler Clementi, and everyone else. I am also wearing purple October 20th in rememberance of these young lives.
The group on my campus is called spectrum also. By any chance do you go to miami university?

I hope today the National Coming Out day is remembered just like a holiday, well respected and greatly celebrated.
Interesting..
I didn't know there was a national coming out day! interesting..I still have yet to go public because of my parents and my girlfriend's parents..they're very against it and we live together..plus her parents love me and my parents like her..we're scared to ruin that and they're the ones helping us pay our rent and to pay for school and whatnot..its a very complicated situation. But we'd like to be able to come out to at least some of our friends that we can trust..this kind of gives me some encouragement to do so.
