How Is The Duke List Any Different From Airing Dirty Laundry Online?
This just in, guys are not the only ones keeping scores anymore. Apparently girls are making their own "fuck list" and giving out scores as well. I'm sure most of you have heard about this by now (perhaps here or here or here), but one Duke graduate wrote in detail of guys she's slept with in a PowerPoint presentation. Not only that, but she's published it for the world to see.
When called into debate by my friends, some are calling her slut while others applaud her. I, for one, can't say I'm against what she's doing.
If guys can do it, why not girls? If guys can pass on their little black book, why can't we share a PowerPoint slide?
Some are saying it's a violation of privacy, but that never stopped scum bags from airing secretly-- or not so secretly-- sex tapes even if girls don't want their privates all over the place.
This is what I want you to think about: is it any different than posting it up on Facebook or blogging about it on Xanga?
It seems like the only people who has a problem with this PPT slide are the stuffy old men who runs Duke University or the guys with small penises and low ratings.
What do you think? Would you call party foul?

Well no, she didn't publish it. She gave it to three friends, trusting that they wouldn't betray her confidence, and one of them did. So... that's how it's different.

Yeah, just snoop just a low as guys..that should make us better. We worn rights and equality to be just as trashy and dirty as guys and objectify them as they do to us. Two wrongs don't make right I say. I thought we were the smarter sex? I guess I was wrong. And only douche bag guys are doing that btw. Mostly, they are in college or high school. Most grow up. Not every guy does this. How sad.
Yeah, but she rated them and wrote a whole "thesis" on it, you don't get that from many other people that write out their dirty laundry. And apparently it was a joke too. I would be weary of people like that.
Posting private and embarrassing information online is just wrong, doesn't matter who is doing it and getting away with it or where they post it. What comes around goes around.
There are so many things wrong with this post...
1. I'm glad you assume all guys have some kind of rating system. Contrary to the "locker room theory," we're not all assholes. I'd say most of us aren't assholes, actually.
2. I think she was betrayed on an inside joke she meant to share with a few friends. Classy? Probably not. Her intentions? Not the worst. By the way, she's apologized to those she hurt.
3. There is a sad double standard here other than the one you're talking about. If some guy had compiled a list of women and ranked them like this, he would be publicly crucified. There wouldn't be a PR battle, just automatic condemnation. Although she's been roundly criticized, I've noticed many (men and women) find it funny and not at all irresponsible or insensitive. Women can objectify men and its cute or funny. Men do it, and they deserve to be beaten. That's hardly fair.
4. Your argument of "they did it, so can we" is ridiculous. How old are you?
5. I feel really bad for this woman. Yes, what she did was pretty damn mean, but it was meant to be a private joke among friends. And while I don't joke about women this way with my guy friends, I can understand the need to vent or discuss these matters with someone you trust.
her choice of topic isn't genius like the other blog and commentors think. it seems like something you write about when you procrastinate to the last hour and have this info handy, so you concoct a rating list and descriptions as your "research", instead of actual research on an intellectual topic. I wonder what grade she got on the report or what grade a guy would get if he did a similar list of how many women gave him blowjobs and rated them; negative points for not swallowing. both genders are skanks.
Oh jeez. This is stupid. Sleeping around with so many people is not good. Rating people is kind of lame, seeing as everyone likes different things in bed.
Instead of justifying one's action, it really comes down to that person's moral and respect for others. It doesn't matter about the whole double standards or "if he can do it, so can I." I mean, really?!

So I guess you are perfectly for people posting potentially humiliating details about you into the public arena without your permission? It all comes back to treating other people how you want to be treated.
i personally think she's a f*cking b*tch. hopefully karma gets her good. man or women. this just isn't freakin appropriate for anyone to do.
whether or not its a double standard she comes off as slutty. I don't condone when guys do it, and guys come off as misogynistic when they do - so why do some women claim that its empowering or stating that its breaking through some glass ceiling when a woman exploits/preaches her sexual prowess?!
At least get the facts right and edit this to read that she did not publish it. If you actually read the sources listed, they state that it was meant to be a private joke between a few friends. She did not publish it.
I don't think she is slutty because of her putting this out in the open. I think she is slutty because she has slept with 13 people. She may just be passing herself around just for the sake of rating different men, which is a sad way to live.
I wrote a long response, but then realized I was just repeating what everyone else was saying.
I will say that I don't condemn the act of making the list or even sharing it with a few friends, but making it public was a dumb move. Her friends a bitch.
Lastly, any institution, no matter who was running it, would be pissed if this sort of thing was connected to them. Show me a college that wouldn't come out and speak against this.

I remember doing something like this in grammarschool but it was only with the boys I liked and it was more of a private kind of thing. She put a lot of time time into that. And the majority of guys she hooked up were athletes. Kinda sucks that it was leaked because it was meant to be a private thing. Some friends to screw you over like that ._.
i think that the consensus is clear. "they do it so we should to" is tired and played out. it's time instead of constantly sinking to the lowest common denominator of behavior for people to start holding themselves and people around them, that's right i said the people around them, to a higher standard.
if you don't like the way men treat you, stop rewarding them for it. be more discerning in your relationships and don't fall so quickly or easily for scammers or BSers.
If her friend was the one that published it, she is at no fault...like @mcmeister89@mancouch said, the friend's a bitch. Honestly, it's one thing to talk about that among friends and air it (for either guys or girls)
This girl is pretty brilliant. I really dont mind that shes exploiting these guys as most of them seem like self-centered assholes anyway. I say Kudos. It's very empowering to women even though the tactic is less than practical. Anything you can do, I can do better. :D
I don't think it's the fact that she's keeping score but more that she took the time to put it in PPT format...
