  • Man Candy of the Week: Jon Stewart

After a very long hiatus, Man Candy of the Week is back! What better way to celebrate than choosing a man who has an attractive mind and body?

There's something incredibly sexy about Jon Stewart. I know, I know, he isn't every one's type, but heaven help me, I want to do some really delicious things to this man. I love a man in a suit and I also have an irrational attraction to nerdy Jewish types, so I am partcularly susceptible to his nerdy charm, but my yearning for Stewart is a lot less about his roguish smile than his lovely brain.

    1. He's smart. Yes, it's impressive that he went to William and Mary, but what is more impressive-- and actually counts for something-- is that he stays informed and understands what he is saying.

    2. The Daily Show is kickass. I love that his show is (for the most part) about politics and world events. And I appreciate it so very much that Stewart and his crew don't default to jokes about personal appearance, he spends time examining what is being said and his critiques just happen to be hilarious.

    3. He supports writers. Although The Daily Show had to go on hiatus during the Writers Guild strike a few years back, Stewart supported the strike, acknowledging that his show was made possible with the wit of many and that they deserve better pay. But when the strike went on too long and his production crew really started to suffer because they were not paid for two months, he returned to the air because it was the right thing to do. During this period he referred to his program as "A Daily Show" in acknowledgment of the writers.

    4. Not to be a huge creep, but have you seen pictures with his kids and wife? Awwww. I love famous dad's who seem to really love spending time with their kids. I especially love that he takes them around New York and let's them explore where he grew up.

    5. He cares. Stewart catches a lot of flack from other media organizations sometimes because he is, at the end of the day, a comedian. It's his job to remark, but not do. He makes jokes not everyone likes and his audience is, indeed, a younger audience. But even if you think Stewart isn't funny, or that he's a bad influence on our generation, you can't say that he doesn't care about the things that matter. He has a great respect for our nation and after September 11th he delivered one of the most touching speeches on that event that I've seen.

    6. Not only is Stewart an attractive older man, but he gave me Stephen Colbert, another sexually charged geek crush. The satire... the wire rim glasses... the intelligence... the gangly-ness... Oh, Comedy Central, you are so much better than literotica.

    7. The Rally to Restore Sanity. There have been a lot of crazies in politics and the media lately, notably Sarah Palin and her "mama grizzlies." There have been a lot of protests and demonstrations that simply numb my brain. But this? This makes some sense. Stewart isn't calling for apathy, or to let the government off the hook. He IS asking for people to use their brains and step away from the Kool-Aid. He's asking people to get informed, make their own decisions, not to act like jackasses. That's something I can stand behind.
