Have a Broken Heart? Be In a Museum!
A few summers ago, after kicking a few margaritas back, a couple of my girlfriends and I joked about our idea for a museum: the hoodie museum. Between the three of us, we probably had over a dozen hoodies (and other articles of clothing) left behind from the exes and hookups of our sorted dating pasts.
Little did we know that our idea was not only already invented, but collecting items from scorned lovers all over the world!
That's right, if you hate your ex and you want that hoodie he left at your apartment out of your life forever, just plan a trip to scenic Croatia (which I should probably learn something about if I'm going to pimp it as a vacation spot), and stop on by...
THE MUSEUM OF BROKEN RELATIONSHIPS!
The museum's website sums up its mission like so:
"The Museum of Broken Relationships grew from a traveling exhibition revolving around the concept of failed relationships and their ruins. Unlike ‘destructive’ self-help instructions for recovery from failed loves, the Museum offers a chance to overcome an emotional collapse through creation: by contributing to the Museum's collection."
Anyone can send the museum an object to display, usually something that has some sentimental value from a shattered romance. Each item is displayed with an anonymous story about the significance of the object, and why it was donated. And let me tell you, these broken-hearted donors do not hold back.
Now take this little fellow...
Sweet, isn't he? Well, his donor doesn't seem to think so. She can't stand the sight of him anymore. His description reads:
"'I love you' – WHAT A LIE! LIES, DAMN LIES! Yes, it's like that when you are young, naïve and in love. And you don't realize your boyfriend started dating you just because he wanted to take you to bed! I got this teddy bear for Valentine's. He survived on top of my closet in a plastic bag, because it wasn't him who hurt me, but the idiot who left him behind."
Or, if you want a lighthearted, slightly creepier exhibit, check this out:

Yes. It's what you think it is. It's description reads:
"In a Zagreb Hospital I met a beautiful, young, and ambitious social worker from the Ministry of Defense. When she helped me to get certain materials, which I, as a war invalid, needed from my under-knee prosthesis, the love was born. The prosthesis endured longer than our love. It was made of better material!"
Visit the museum's website for more info on location, exhibits, and how to submit.
What kind of items could you submit to the Museum of Broken Relationships? Would you want to visit this kind of museum?

hahahahaha.
Badass. I want to go to Croatia now!
Well that's one way of getting rid of items that remind you of that person who you fell too hard for.. I should donate and never see that shit again. Fuckin' bitch. Sorry... Emotions talking. :]
I threw away the x-mas gift I had gotten from my ex (first love), but otherwise that would've been a great object to put in such a museum v_v
Maybe a few stuff? But that's probably it..
hell, I''ll send the whole damn box. gah.
this is a genius idea lol.
I threw out all my ex's shit.
I have like-- a shirt. that's all. I made sure to bag it all up and throw it in the dumpster. but he gave back all my things. everything but my pants and hair extensions :|I still wonder to this day if he puts them on..
Another thing you can do, with valuables anyway, is sell them. exboyfriendjewelry.com is an online store where you can sell things your ex gave you. They have categories like "rings", "watches", "gifts that should have been jewelry", etc.
Personally, I like to burn things. :) Makes me feel good, at least a little. Especially if it was something that was his, rather than a gift, like a hoodie. Something personal, that he might want back.
Lovelovelove this! Would definitely spend a day or two searching through the items and notes by broken hearts. Not to sound like a sourpuss, but I feel like a visit to this museum and a bottle of wine would do wonders for any gal's self-esteem.
This post makes me sad. I donate that kinda stuff to Good Will.
Haha, this seems..slightly weird, but funny at the same time. I've heard they have a museum for medical annomalies..why not broken hearts? Apparently, you can actually die from it, so those that make us out alive should be grateful. And submit..helpful artifacts.
Hmmm..I have quite a tragic little story, but I don't know what artifact I would even send. Hey, can a person be in the museum? Nah, I'd annoy the hell out of everyone. And this heart isn't broken. Not yet. Only cracked.
I think that museum would make me cry. Also, I would send the teddy bear with his name necklace on it.
I pack up all the stuff & give it back to him after the breakup. Yeah, I know it's a gift and I'm entitled to keep it, but to me, it's one last little "EFF you!!!!" to him. Like, I'm so over you that YOU can have all of this junk back. I don't want to ever think about you again.
@femsmut - I like the way you think!
Hahaha wow. This is interesting :)
Awesome! I am Croatian. :)
wow that is amazing! Now instead of burning all and hating myself for getting rid of stuff I can donate it to this place!
I wonder if the accept sweatshirts. If only I "collected" something that didn't take up so much closet space.
