  • Can You Love Jesus Too Much?

In high school, I made the big transfer half way through my sophomore year from a large public high school, to a small Christian prep school.

I grew up in a Christian family, so I really didn't think it would be a huge deal. When I was transferring there was only one thing on my mind-- football.  Since I was previously at the biggest high school in Iowa, I knew there would be a lot more playing time with one of the smallest teams.  What I wasn't aware of was how many Christians have fallen off their rocker.

Some people appeared to love Jesus too much.

This school had students from preschool all the way through 12th grade, so there were some people in my graduating class who had been there 13 years and I would say they were over exposed to Christianity.  From my point of view I just couldn't see it as a good thing.  I don't have a problem with people having faith, but I feel like a lot of people forgot about the world around them. Most of the people I knew have straightened out since high school, but there are still some crazies (like a guy I know who prayed on his Facebook status that he would find the right furniture on Craigslist).

With all the extremes that some of these people believed in, I wondered if some people were sexually attracted to Jesus.  If you think about it, it makes some sense.  Jesus is usually portrayed by a good looking white man around age 30.  He's not too young, and not too old.  He's at a good age to appeal to everybody.

In the environment I was in, the belief was that any sexual thought was bad and lead to sin if you weren't married. Can you REALLY control your raging teenage horomones that easily, though?

I'm not going to say that I think this is something common.  I just know there are a lot of different sexual thoughts out there.

My guess is that a lot of people find the physcial Jesus attractive in a Russell Crowe/Gerard Butler kind of way, and maybe some take this to the next level of sexual desire.

What do you think? If a Christian is raised in a world where masturbation and sex are considered a gateway to worse and worse sins, is it possible that their sexual thought is redirected toward Jesus?
