  • How Did You Meet Your SO?

My current SO and I have kind of a funny story.

I don't know how many of you are familiar with the college tradition of "Power Hour," but basically it's a party where everyone takes a shot (or swig) of beer every minute for an hour.

Well, one fateful Thursday evening, my roommate and I ventured out to the apartment complex across the street to observe this tried and true tradition. Walking into the already packed room, we surveyed the crowd, and I casually mentioned to her how "that guy over there" was cute.

Fast forward to the end of the night. Neil Diamond is crooning "Sweet Caroline" (Anyone else familiar with that particular tradition?), and somewhere between "Ba, ba, ba's" and "So good, so good, so f-ing good!" a boy started singing to me across the table. Like I said, it was the end of the night, and he was feeling pretty good, I could tell.

At 11 o'clock sharp (as these things only last an hour), we were swiftly kicked out, and everyone proceeded to socialize in the parking lot. I casually struck up a conversation with the boy who had been singing to me, and invited him back to smoke some hookah with my roommate and me. He grabbed two of his buddies, and we headed across the street.

Imagine my surprise and delight when one of his friends turned out to be the random (cute) guy I had pointed out at the beginning of the night.

Sitting at the hookah lounge, I had singing boy on my left (who was cute, I'll admit), and cute friend on my right. Singing boy tactfully (sarcasm) used the hookah hose in a most phallic of gestures, making it clear to me that he was looking for one thing. Hey, that's what I get for picking up random dudes at parties. But funny enough, I had struck up a good conversation with his friend.

Long story short, the two of us ended up talking all night while Sweet Caroline went on to his next conquest (my roommate). We stayed up and watched the sun rise, and have been together since. We didn't start dating right away, but even so, it was fast and unexpected ... but I wouldn't have it any other way.

    That's my story. What's yours?

My SO came into the restaurant I was working at with his then girlfriend. I waited on them, and didn't really think much of him since he was with another girl. But, then one day he came into the restaurant alone and that's when I knew he was interested in me. I could feel him checking me out when I was cleaning the salad bar. He didn't have the courage to ask me out there, but he found me on myspace and we started talking through there, and soon went on our first date. We've been together for over 3 years now :]

  • lagnolalia@xanga

    Highschool... we didn't talk until our senior year. >_>;

  • makeoverme@xanga

We were on the same high school but we never talked or anything. At 17 I told my friends that someday I was going to marry him.
3 years later and 2 days after a horrible break up with my ex, I saw my SO washing his car shirtless outside his house. Thats when I knew that he was going to be mine. As soon as I got to my house I asked one friend we had in common for his email. We started chatting and a week later we had our first date. Its been 5 years since then and we are happier every day. We are getting married in 2 more years!.

  • materialactress@xanga

Aw, your story is way cute!

My ex SO and I met when we were eleven years old. Our middle/high school was a district school, so it combined three different elementary schools so at the end of sixth grade, the three schools went to Nature's Classroom for a week to meet each other. We were at the same table and in the same field group, and I remember him pronouncing my name very wrong. We were best friends until we started dating, and we even "dated" very briefly in eighth and ninth grade. Then we were together for three and a half years. It was pretty cute.

My new boy (not my SO, but close enough for purposes) and I met in chorus. I was sitting next to him one day and decided he was really awesome and had my friend be a creeper on the choir roster so I could find him on facebook. We talked a bunch and he invited me to hang out and since then, events have just kind of transpired. =]

Ahaha... I met him at my best friend's birthday party. He actually liked her at the time, and they went out for about nine months, then broke up and he and I got together. And that was a year and nine months ago. ^^
They didn't apparently like each other that much in the first place. :\

Ours is kind of a funny story as well. It was purely by accident.

I had an account on a dating site back in high school. The reason I had the account, is because I had a crush on a boy who I knew used the website. I was shy so I used it as a way to break the ice. We became good friends but that's all. That was many years ago and we lost touch. He's totally out of the picture now. Anyways, when I was in college, I remembered the website. I signed into my account out of curiosity to browse around.

I was not interested in meeting strangers from online, so I decided to delete my account. I had many unread messages that had accumulated over time. I selected "delete all" and sent them to the trash can. However, you know how if there are messages on a second page, they don't get deleted? Well, that happened. There was one message on page two that had not been selected along with all of page one. I decided to open it. It was a nice guy asking if I had MSN messenger, so I added him and deleted his message.

He began talking to me on MSN. I didn't have much interest in him, but I talked to him as a friend. Over time we began to talk more frequently for hours at a time. He admitted he really liked me, and I decided regardless of my fears about meeting someone from online, I had to meet this guy because I was starting to like him. I knew I had to meet him in a safe, public place. He actually suggested to come to my church one Sunday, so I agreed. We sat together, then afterwards went to the playground at the school next door. We sat on the swings and talked, held hands, and then after a while he went for a kiss. It was amazing. We then kissed for four hours on a picnic table and then we didn't know if we'd ever see eachother again. We wanted to, but I have strict parents who would freak out if they knew how we met eachother.

So after a few days my parents found out, and were mad. My dad forbid me from going out with the guy because he didn't trust a random guy from online that drove over an hour to meet me. He was paranoid about something terrible happening to me. I told the guy on MSN that night, and he convinced my dad to give him a chance by offering to get to know my father and having coffee with him before being allowed to date me. Very old fashioned.

For the first eight months we were long distance, one hour apart but he drove to see me at least once or twice a week. Needless to say, it went well, we're still together almost a year and a half later.. and my family loves him!  His family loves me as well. He moved to my town after dating for eight months, so we could see eachother more. He left his job and apartment he shared with his friends, to get a new job here just to be with me. It worked out amazing and now we're together almost every day. We still go to the church we met at. We want to get married within the next year, and it was the best thing that ever happened to me. :)

  • AtLeastWereStillAlive@xanga

My sophomore year of highschool I joined the girls lax team, and he was on the guys. He'd dated my then bestfriend for over a year so I didn't think of him like that, but one day he showed up at practice and started talking to me, using sly lines such as "you can borrow my stick ;]" I then noticed him EVERYWHERE. We had a class across the hall and one time he caught me singing I Touch Myself bahahah. And I remember freaking out when he added me on fbook and commented me. :] ahhh to be young!

Well then he graduated so we didn't see eachother until two years later, right after my birthday!!! Although there were tidbits of conversation in between. We'd just always had this thing. Well one day my sister conveniently had a car wreck so my dad was gone for the night and Chase invited me to a party! So he comes and gets me and it's the first time we've seen eachother in two years and we hit it off immediately, no awkward pauses, nothing. Long story short I stole his hoodie so he'd have to see me again and bathed it in my perfume so when he got it back he would smell how awesome I am. The rest is history.

And now we are broken up but kind of together bahahahah. We love eachother to death though.

  • TulleSkirts@xanga

Indoor rock climbing, through his friend, who's an acquaintance of mine.

  • ForeverLove_xx@xanga

Heh, well, throughout sophomore year, one of my good guy friends was trying to hook me up with his friend. His friend was cool and all, and we got along really well. But there was still something a little... off. Not to mention I still had a boyfriend but that's a long story. One day I was on his myspace looking at his top friends, and I was wondering who his number 2 was because I really hadn't heard much about him although they were like best friends for 10 years. Go figure. Anyway so I added him and we commented each other for at bit and then talked on AIM for a while.

The next day, like the second time I've ever talked to him, we talked on AIM for 12 hours straight, no joke. And that's when I knew I really liked him. Conveniently he was coming home on leave about a week or so later (he's in the military), and that's when we actually met. This happened to be right after I broke up with my boyfriend. And we had to keep things a little quiet so his best friend that wanted to date me wouldn't find out, lol...
    Interesting story I suppose haha.

We met at work last year. I knew him as "the guy who brought in our lunches" on orientation day. I was working retail at a baseball stadium and he was the warehouse manager (in other words, i was 17 he was 28). I had a boyfriend at the time but that didn't stop me from getting to know him. By september he had lightened up a little bit and started flirting. The 3rd of September my boyfriend and I split up cause we just weren't compatible anymore. My manager (my now boyfriend) and I went on a couple of dates from september-december including my 18th birthday at a comedy club and it was nice but it was hard since his uncle had cancer and he was really close to him. His uncle died on christmas eve which was tough for him so I kept him out of the house as much as possible and in January he asked me to be his girlfriend. we've been together and happy since january =)

  • Geek_Sauce@xanga

I met him in the 9th grade, online, on accident. I was in Pennsylvania, he was in Washington (state, not D.C.). I always hated people to hooked up from the internet, so I was so mean to him, but he always stayed my friend anyway. By the 11th grade, shit was pretty bad at home, and so he said I could call him and talk about it if I wanted to. This translated to me making fun of how weird he was, and he praised how weird I was. By the end of it, I apologized for being grumpy, and he said it was fine because he could tell I was nice at heart. Within a month, we talked every night, for like 6 hours each night! In a few months, we couldn't even hang up, we just fell asleep on the line together, and I'd wake up for school the next morning to the sound of him breathing. Around a year after this started, we decided that one of us had to go to the other's coast, we couldn't not see each other any longer. He came and visited me, and it was the best 10 days of that whole year. My family treated him terribly, we weren't even allowed to hold hands or sit next to each other in the car. But he took it, to be with me...

I decided to go to college with him, because I wanted to get away from my folks and be with him. Terribly long part of the story short, my step-dad threatened to kill him, me, and all my friends who helped us be together. I wasn't allowed to talk to him, and for seemingly no reason, they pulled me out of school so I couldn't graduate. I ran away to be with him and get an education. I was 18. It was impulsive, and kind of stupid, but two and a half years later, we're still together and madly in love!!

that story is very cute! loves those types of things.

My SO and I met our first year of college. I didn't know anyone there so I mainly stayed in the library reading every Theatre reference book I could find. And at 3 I would go get a drink from the Student Center.. once I figured out we had one.. lame I know.. it is community college.
There was a group of guys that always hung out by one of the far doors every Monday and Wednesday. One of the other guys wanted to meet me but didn't know how to get me over to talk to them and they all said I kind of looked like this girl Amy. My SO yelled "Hey girl that looks like Amy!!" I was the only person there so I looked and went over. He had a girlfriend at the time.. but they were on and off for like 2 or 3 years.. and I had a game of how many boyfriends can I steal and he seemed like an easy target. Then I dated some swamp monster.. for some reason after and amazing night with my now SO on Halloween (which is when I knew I would like to spend a long time with him.)
So the swamp monster went for a few weeks and then a couple months later we started hanging out again and he finally asked me out after a month. We've been together for a little over a year now. which really isn't a long time.. but of my relationships before hand only lasted a few weeks.. 3 was my longest.
  • HollowTendencies@xanga

I don't really remember. I think it was when I first stayed the night at his house, he was about 7 and I was 8. I've been best friends with his sister since 2nd grade.

  • CombinedEffort@xanga

We met when he was the new kid in 4th grade.  I taught him how to kiss in 8th grade.  Now we've been married for 3 years.

  • Hinase@xanga

Once a upon a time..I used to work at Fry's electronics..and when I did I was still with my ex, and so when I was working there, I met my current bf though we were strictly best friends. He did everything for me..and we hung out together.

Of course, I had problems arise at home, so I moved to Kansas with my friend Sal, after about a year I came back. Though of course I realized I didn't love my ex (current back then); and so broke up with him and realized I loved my best friend and that he loved me too, so we started dating..and I moved in with him because my dad was a douche and kicked me out.
    and I've never been happier..
  • xa06@xanga

Beginning of freshman year at college. I met him through my friends, whom he was pledging a fraternity with at the time, at the campus coffee shop. It was a quick introduction of "Hello, my name is ..." and that was it. Later that night, though, we ended up at one of his pledge brother's dorm room after going to (separate) parties. Upon learning that we both lived in the same dorm hall, he walked me back to my room and ended up staying the night to do nothing else but cuddling.

The story of how we actually ended up together is a lot longer and more complicated, but this was the start of it. :)

Well, this is rather new, so I'll start slow I guess... How my current beau Jason and I got together was kinda ironically funny in a way.

My bestfriend a school, Nikki, did not like the guy that I had been seeing. She swore up and down I could do so much better, and honestly, I knew I could too. So sitting in class one night, she begins talking to him while I'm writing out an application for a job. Instantly, I'm interested in who this guy is... and naturally he was good looking, at least to me. A genuine Country boy, with the country boy charm and gorgeous good looks to boot. Man, was I impressed. What caught me off guard was what happened next.

"Hey Dev, why don't you talk to him. He's over seas right now, and really misses the states, and says that he would love to meet new people."

I knew what her intensions were, but that aside, I sat in the class room for thirty minutes after her, and talking to Jason.

Jason and I talked that Thursday night, all day friday, all day saturday, most of the day sunday, and most of the day tuesday, until one night on webcam he turns to an army buddy and says, "Dude, I'd like you to meet my beautiful girlfriend".

Even though he's still over there, he'll be coming home in September, and has invited me to see him in December. Though distance is their, seeing him everyday and him making me smile make every moment worth the wait.

This one time at band camp... (:

But for real. It was the summer of my first band camp- freshman year. I was just a silly flute player, trying to not be annoying like all of the other freshman. There was this really cute kid in the percussion section. I went all through band camp, just having short casual conversations with him.

When school started, we found out that we had classes in the same area of the school. So he walked me to a few, and during practice one night, we graduated from giving good bye high-fives, to hugging. The next day, he told me that he liked my best friend. I was crushed. A week or so later, he was walking me to my bus, and he said that he didn't like her. He liked someone else.

I went through the next few weeks wondering who. When we had out first band competition, we took 3 buses. We were on different buses, but that fateful accident (we rear-ended a mini-van. lol) put me on his bus. I sat next to him, and we hit it off. On the way home, he said that he kind of liked me, and asked me if I kind of liked him.

Two weeks later, we started dating. Three years (in October), here we are today. Still just as in love as before. =]

Met him exiting a chatroom when he IMed me. Starting chatting for a year before we met. He lived 2.5 hours away from me. About 4 years into our relationship, we got married, I gave birth to our babygirl and now it's been almost a total of 8 years since we've been together. I love him with every ounce in my body =).

  • feelslikejuly@xanga

I met my SO in May 2006. I think meeting each other was purely fate.

    my short story:
I was going through some rough times with my then recent-ex boyfriend. My ex wanted to hang out with me on this day, then he decided to ditch me. My bummed-out self decided that it was not going to be a fun day staying inside so I decided to head to the mall arcade to play some In the Groove (similiar to DDR). Two people were at the mall playing my stepping game. I knew one of the kids there, but had in fact, never seen the other person.
I got thirsty after playing for an hour or so and headed to McD's for my usual powerade drink. This person decided to do the same thing. He was standing next in line to me. Thereafter this person decided to introduce himself and asked what brought me to the arcade. I told him that I just finished my first finals as a freshmen in college at PSU. We got to chitchatting. He gave me all his contacts (email, cellphone, AIM sn). It took me nearly a month to contact him. We hung out a few times, but I was reluctant since the few months after I met this person I had some rough times with getting over my ex. I was also afraid my nasty ex would try to hurt this new person I met.
Eventually in August we hung out again. September we started dating. Four years and some months later we are still doing so well. The only difference is that we're nearly 3,000 miles apart from each other.
  • JusticeCho@xanga

Power hour sounds pretty disgusting.  I met my last ex through my martial arts school.  Others before that I met at work, and through dorm friends.  No fun stories though.

  • fatal_mess@xanga

we both worked for the same giant company as student interns, but in seperate buildings (just across the street from each other). We didn't even know each other existed until one day, a mutual friend and coworker, S, came to visit me at my cubicle. S and my (now) SO's offices were right next to each other in the building across the street. S grabbed my phone and dialed my (now) SO's extension to pull an inside joke on him. S then said he had to get back to work and handed me the phone. My (now) SO and I started talking and hit it off - we chatted for 20 minutes at work. Then we started e-mailing each other all day long, and the rest is history!

    Lots of Love

We met on Facebook but we went to the same Highschool together! I added him because his named seemed really familiar-we started messaging each other and the rest is history..He played baseball with my cousin so it was alot easier for us to start talking. We met up at a local Starbucks and chatted for over three hours over hot cocoa :) We've been together for a year and almost 6 months :) I really think he's the one <3
