  • "I Think There's A Ring In That Fish's Mouth!"

I came across this video on Youtube, theres a bunch of them on there none as over the top of this. After watching it my mind kind of got stuck on the idea of proposals (something that until well now, never crossed my mind).  I use to be hung up on the idea of getting proposed to at a Yankee game, until I realized I only tend to date Red Sox fans! Now, I don't really have a special idea except something outside, asking my parents permission, and I like it when there's family there, but nothing to attention grabbing.

So as I was writing this, I got hung up on the idea of the cutest proposals here's some I found from The Knot. I bolded the ones I thought were the cutest!

You Ought to Be in Pictures

The one thing my boyfriend, Josh, and I don't have in common is movies -- I love them, but he could care less. But for our third anniversary, Josh offered to take me to see one. When we walked into the theater, it was already dark, so we grabbed a seat near the front. Suddenly, a picture of us came up on the screen -- Josh had made a movie about us! He and some of our friends acted out scenes from our relationship, and as the movie ended, I turned and Josh was kneeling on the floor. He opened a box with a ring pop inside just as the words "WILL YOU MARRY ME?" flashed on the screen. Then the lights turned on and everyone yelled, "Surprise!" Both of our families and our closest friends were in the theater watching the whole time!

    A Fish Tale

My boyfriend and I flew to Seattle and visited Pike Place Market, famous for its fishmongers who throw fish. One of the fishmongers asked me if I wanted to catch a fish. I was nervous that I’d drop it, but I caught the fish and held it above my head to the applause of onlookers -- and then someone shouted that there was something in the fish's mouth. I discovered a plastic bag, tore it open, and found a small box inside. I turned around to find my boyfriend down on one knee!

    Love Note, Redux

My fiance and I started dating our senior year of high school. He was shy, so he wrote me a note and left it on my desk -- it was super-dorky and asked if I wanted to “go out with him, be together, or whatever.” Then he wrote, "Sorry about the note. I really like you. Jim.” Now we’re both teachers, and when I got back to my apartment one day after school, there was an envelope taped to my door. As I began to read the note, I realized I’d read it somewhere before. He had rewritten that original note, but changed it to "Will you marry me, be together forever, or whatever. Sorry about the note. I really love you. Jim.” He was waiting in my room to propose.

    An Offer She Couldn’t Refuse

My boyfriend, Mike, and I were at my cousin’s apartment, hanging out with her and her husband and their baby, Ryan. Mike is Ryan's godfather. We were all in the living room playing with the baby, and my cousin asked us to change him into his pajamas. So I unsnapped his onesie and went to pull it off over his head, and I realized he had on another one underneath. That onesie had writing on it: "AUNT GG, WILL YOU MARRY MY GODFATHER?" I read it, and then I looked next to me, and there was Mike down on one knee with the ring! And, of course, I said yes!

    An Unforgettable View

My boyfriend, Rob, is a pilot, and we often take trips in a Cessna airplane. One night, Rob told me he had rented a plane for the next morning for what I thought would just be a typical flight. After we were in the air for about five minutes, he switched radio frequencies. This wasn’t a normal procedure, so I was thinking, Oh gosh, what's wrong? Then Rob asked me, "What's that down there?" I looked down to the ground below us, and written on a football field were the words "Will You Marry Me, Delilah?" Of course I said yes, and the news of our engagement was broadcast for all to hear on radio frequency 123.45.

    Love in Any Language

One day, at the hospital where I work, a fellow nurse walked into the OR and handed me a card. One side of the card said, "Chinese,” and the back had something written in Chinese. A moment later, another nurse came in and handed me another card. On one side it said, "German," and the other side said something in German. This continued for 45 minutes, with cards coming in all different languages. I didn’t know what to think until one of my patients complained of stomach pain, and I lifted up her blanket to find a card that said, "French," which is a language I read well -- I realized that all of the cards said, "Will you marry me?” I opened the door to the recovery room and found my fiance holding the final card. One side said, "English," and when I flipped it over, it said, "Will you marry me?”

    Well-Played Proposal

For my birthday, Dell surprised me with a weekend at this beautiful, secluded house. That night after dinner, we decided to play Monopoly. On one of my first rolls, I landed on “Chance.” When I pulled the card, it said my name and I was so confused. Dell had designed the card and had written a letter to me! At the end of the card, it said, "If you'll look my way, there is one thing I want to ask..." And when I turned to look at Dell, he was on his knee and holding the ring.

    Rules of Engagement

My boyfriend, Nate, had been deployed in Afghanistan for a year, so for my birthday, Nate’s friends threw me a party so I wouldn’t be alone. The last present I opened was a card that told me to check my closet upstairs. In the closet, I found a DVD with a note that said, “Watch immediately.” It was a video of Nate in Afghanistan, holding a sign that said to go to the first place we met. We all drove over to the school where Nate and I had been kindergarten classmates, and then I saw a soldier on the playground. Before I could process what was happening, I realized it was Nate, who had somehow managed to come home. I started bawling on his shoulder, and then he got on his knee and pulled out a ring that was custom-made for me in Afghanistan.

    A Walk to Remember

Daniel and I met when we both decided to hike the Appalachian Trail. We met only a few days into our separate hikes and developed a wonderful friendship as we walked across the country together. Six-and-a-half months later, we reached the summit of Mount Katahdin at the end of the trail, and one year after that, Daniel took me back to the trail for a picnic. After we ate, Daniel helped me to my feet and then dropped to one knee. He said if we could walk 2,000 miles together through rain, snow, stress fractures, lightning, bugs, and creepy townies, then there is no doubt that we could take on anything else that life has to offer, and he couldn’t imagine any adventure he would want to embark on without me by his side.

What's your dream way of getting proposed to?

    Do you think it matters?

I don't think it matters.  Sure, it makes for a good story, like in the movies, but real life is not the movies; it's better than that.  Any honest desire to marry me is amazing.

  • babymeatball@xanga

    that last ones amazing.

i don't really care too much for grandiose proposals. i just want something simple, genuine, spur of the moment... but i'm not too picky. doesn't even have to be a traditional proposal, a conversation would suffice.

The second to the last one is *so* sweet!

It's good for movies and stuff but I'm happy with the way that I was proposed to.  In front of a Chinese restaurant, sitting inside our car waiting for my boyfriend to open the door (he all of a sudden wanted to be gentlemanly).  He opened the door, got on one knee and popped the question.  Right there before we were gonna go eat a bunch of wonton soup and eggrolls. It actually makes me laugh nowadays.

These are sooo adorable! I love the huge romantic proposals. I know a lot people might think they're over the top or embarrassing but I would love a huge surprise and something sappy and romantic to tell people. It depends on the person I'm dating. Like, my last boyfriend, I imagined something involving his fire department. My current sort of guy, we aren't even officially dating yet, but I feel like a proposal would involve a shooting range or something. Just something really adorable. =]

My husband proposed to be at Disney.  We went with some friends three years ago, and had been making plans to go on a double date to a restaurant in Epcot called the Coral Reef.  Well, my husband told me that our friends had backed out, so I was miffed, but we were gonna go anyway.  The restaurant is very cool.  An entire wall looks into an enormous fish tank with sea life and divers swimming by.  When we got to the restaurant, we were given a table right by the tank.  I asked my husband if he'd requested it, and he said no, it was coincidence.  Silly me;)  So They bring us our appetizer and as we're eating, I look over and see a diver swimming by.  He stops right by our table and starts waving, so I wave back.  Then he pulls a sign out from behind his back that says "(Katie), I love you."  I blink, and he turns over the sign and the other side says "Will you marry me?"  I look over, and my husband is down on one knee with the ring out.  The entire restaurant started applauding, and we had people coming up to us the entire night telling us we'd absolutely made their trip to Disney.  It was very very special.  I would have said yes no matter what, but this is gonna be a really cool story to tell our kids.

My parents, on the other hand, have a simpler story.  They were ring shopping, and as they were walking out of the jewelry store, my dad goes "So, you wanna get married?" *lol*  I think it's adorable.

These are extravagant, but no ultimately it doesn't matter. Your marriage will be based on how well you interact with the person you're with, not on how he/she proposed to you or how romantic they are.

My wife and I were very different than these stories. We were sitting around our tiny apartment eating breakfast on a Tuesday morning, I had off work and she didn't go in until 3pm. We were discussing her recent illness and how it affected both of us. I looked at her and asked 'So, you wanna get married.' She said sure, when and I answered 'This Sunday?' We were married in 5 days with our family and friends close. We had a ceremony at the courthouse. That was 11 1/2 years ago and we are still going strong.

I proposed to her on our 1 year anniversary. Went into the nursing home where she worked (she was a nursing shift supervisor), went to the main nurse's station with all of her co-workers standing there, went down on one knee and told her that I loved her and would marry her again, given the chance. I also gave her an engagement ring for that anniversary.

@RaVnR@xanga - Exactly. It may be a neat story but if it ends badly it's one you won't tell.

@WhenHateIsTheOnlyOption@xanga - Agree. I do like creativity but in the end it's the sincerity that means the most.

"The Rules of Engagement" is my favorite.

I'm so scared I won't get proposed to in a romantic way. Or at all.

  • wizard_howl@xanga

It's not going to happen for a while...but something simple will suffice for me. ;3 My boyfriend and I plan on traveling before it happens.

  • lil_fire_bella@xanga

LOL! I haven't even thought about my proposal! But these are all ridiculously cute! Especially the second last one! <3

  • Angelina456@xanga

That video is cute. And I have/had the idea of being purposed to at a Yankee game too! But I want the guy to surprise me. And yeah, guys I am with usually don't care much about baseball. =/ lol.

  • laydeekai315@xanga

It doesn't matter where your man of your dreams proposes, but what matters is that he is sincere and can show you that there are no boundaries between you and your man.

My dream proposal is more like a fairytale. I dreamed to be proposed in a ball, in the middle of the dancefloor. Then we would dance to the next slow song being played.

But my real proposal is this. I was on my way to a park, near where my fiance lives, and it's about 30 minutes away. It was raining as well, even when I got there. My fiance was there in his car and we decided to park next to each other. I got out of my car to see who was there at the big gazebo since I had community dance practice there. There were a couple of them, but they were still waiting for others to come, so I said that I'm going back to my car and get the food I got from a store. My fiance was there and asked me if we could stay in the car for 5 minutes. I didn't know why he wanted to do that, but I insisted anyway. In the car, he gave me a kiss first, and then he began. "It's been 2 months since we started dating. I really love you, and I want to spend the rest of my life with you. So will you marry me?" And of course I said yes. As soon as I said yes, the rain stopped. :)
