There once was a time when I loved Michael Cera.
He was sensational as
George Michael in the hysterical series Arrested Development. He charmed me in
Juno as the awkward, smart Paulie Bleeker who crushes on intelligent feisty ladies. He further amused me in
Superbad with his bottle of spermicidal lube and bromance with Jonah Hill.
But now? I'd like him to take a break.
Cera always plays the same character. This doesn't necessarily bother me, because a lot of actors do this (Will Farrell, Katherine Heigl, Russel Brand, to name a few), but I think he could branch out.
I'm especially worried because Cera was cast as the title character in the totally awesome
Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World movie. This graphic novel series is very fun and smart, but I just don't think Cera can pull off the frustrated normal-ness without looking like a total dweeb-- and I love dweeb. But enough is enough.
Is anyone else tired of Michael Cera? Who else do you think needs to try playing someone NOT themselves?

I love Michael Cera! Juno and Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist are two of my favorite movies ever.
But yes, he is always the same character, I know. But how about Lauren Graham? She's a sensational actress, but Lorelei and then her role in Parenthood, they're both kind of the same person. I still love her as an actress though. No, I don't think Michael Cera necessarily needs to branch out. I love him, personally, but the dorky thing really makes me happy too :)
Without the Juno reference, I wouldn't have known who he is. So I don't really have an opinion.
I'm also moderately confused as to why this landed on Datingish, but that might just be because I don't know much about him.
@unabridgedtales@xanga - same here.
He's fine. I don't have a problem with him..
He is adorable. I just want to give him and kiss and pat his head and rub my nose against his. But yes, he does play the same character. But he has potential to grow and play other roles.
I think Michael Cera is sort of sexy in a dorkish way:)...I'd date him:))
i liked him in arrested development. juno made me want to blow a hole through my head and superdab...i don't even want to se that crap.
i agree that he always plays the same character and his face bothers me. he;s UGLY
I agree somewhat, I wish that he would completley throw himself in a role.
@DeviWho@xanga - i kinda agree lol.
@WhenHateIsTheOnlyOption@xanga - Absolutely agree, haha :)
I think something must be afoot, if in a movie review someone compared him to SpongeBob Squarepants. (That was in a review of the mockumentary Paper Heart.)
I think he's adorable <3
I am in love with Michael Cera!!!!
If you've been paying attention to the trailers for the Scott Pilgrim movie... ok, so it still seems a lot like Cera. But more KICKASS. Honestly, the Scott Pilgrim movie is the one I'm looking forward to most this summer, and the trailers look really good.
He's hilarious. He always plays the same character because he does it so well.
He's adorably dweeby.
But that got old after the second or third movie he was in.
I totally agree. He's always the same character in the same type of movies. He's just old news.
He's so adorableeee though.
soooo adorable ^^
I like him :)
Go watch Youth in Revolt, he was a sexy Francophone badass. He's adorable, period.
I like him
I am not tired of him, Youth in Revolt was rather refreshing actually
I like Michael Cera and his voice is also cute but as he is always playing the same role is really annoying me. He should try to play different characters. His movie Youth in Revolt was pretty good.

when i saw the previews for youth in revolt, that's when it was just too much. i'm in agreement with you.
i loved him in arrested development, but no way can he pull off being scott pilgrim, i think casting him was a mistake. i hope the movie doesnt blow cause the comic is so good.
