Sarcastic Typing: A New Suggestion
All right daters, the time has come.
Sarcasm fonts are not realistic. There is no way that when I'm texting a girl, I'm going to be able to change my font when I want her to know I'm being sarcastic. Same with IMing, blogging, or any other type-format communication.
All forms of type-communication and internet publishing can benefit from this simple suggestion - a key that is on all of our keyboards, and a symbol that can be found on all phone number pads.
This is my suggestion: ~
Use this symbol before and after sarcasm, as follows:
~Like thats going to happen~
~Of course I like you~
~Brilliant~
If you agree that there needs to be a form of internet sarcasm usage, use this! Tell your friends, your family, your co-workers, and...well...that dumbass who keeps texting you!Does anyone else have ideas for typed messages? What about other ways of portraying typed sarcasm?

yeah that's hard to convey...sometimes it's easiest to put something like *sarcasm* but that really just defeats the purpose
That sounds like a good idea.
why not just use this face after -__-
hey great idea! I def need to use it because I'm always making sarcastic remarks and sometimes people take it too literally or not literally enough... *sigh
How about you just save typed sarcasm for those that you know will get it. My gf and friends all know when I'm being sarcastic so I only use it with them.
I always use these ** . Like thus:
Oh, I just *adore* Ke$ha.
The marks in conjunction with what I say should be enough to convey sarcasm to anyone who talks to me enough to matter.
I use the " .. " and then I'll *roll eyes* at the end.
Sarcasm is difficult to translate via text. *Rolls eyes* or just say sarcasm.
sarcasm is so childish, and not funny ive heard ppl talk a whole conversation being sarcastic, i can only think that they think the person they are talking to is smart enough to catch the sarcasm but dumb enough to ask such a question.
People usually don't even know when I'm being sarcastic in person. I think I might just be bad at it. Haha. Normally though, I tell people I'm being sarcastic..
@diannisforever@xanga - I think it depends on the place. If someone asks a serious question, and you answer with sarcasm, it can be rude. Usually when I use sarcasm, it's among friends and we're just teasing each other. I think it's okay to be childish among friends... not that I haven't been childish elsewhere :/
This was stolen from a YouTuber.
Just put it into an obvious context?
im only sarcastic with those who would get it........and if it wasnt clear theyd not be shy to ask if it was sarcasm.
~ marks already have a meaning
AHAHHA I always use that face ------> -__________- and people usually know what I'm saying.
Hey! Good idea! :p
OR we can stop texting and actually go out and see the person.. just an idea.
i just use "...." or =_=
@supersaiyanhannah@xanga - A great idea!
Lmao. I just type "/endsarcasm". I use "~" alot even when I'm not being sarcastic.
WIN!
"umm... right... i'll just be sliding out of the room now while you go on rambling like that..." and then if she responds with a laff or something positive to that, you're good to go.
intonation can be hard to hear, textually.
it really depends on if the person has a sense of humor, else they can misinterpret everything that's said in a sacastic way as non-sacastic, in which case the only joke will be the one on them ~ :p ~
I just usually don't use sarcasm in texts. I find that it never turns out well...
oh god. that's just horrifying. if you haven't been able to figure out a way to indicate sarcasm via text, that's bad enough on its own. if you would actually use a 'sarcasm font', what's the damn point? you're clearly not funny or cutting-edge enough to formulate a worthwhile statement anyway.
for the record, i'll occasionally throw in a "...statement." but i've come to favor leaving no indication of sarcasm at all. because discerning whether or not it's implied is sort of the whole point.
@Utoppia - Same...causes lots of problems sometimes heh.
I usually just put heh at the end of the message. Though I write heh a lot.
