First Love: Can You Make it Last?

You always read posts or comments with people talking about losing their first love, not being with them anymore, missing them, whatever. Maybe I'm naive, maybe this is the real deal. But I honestly believe my relationship can last. I'm not that young, at least not to know what love is. But just reading these articles is getting to me and making me wonder and doubt. Are you still with your first love? What's your stance on a lasting relationship with one's first love?

I'm still with my first love. We're planning to get married soon :)
YES. Total YES.
@presque_la@xanga - That's wonderful!
I thought I was in love before, before I met the guy I'm with now.
Now I think this is my first love, because i think when you meet someone you want to spend forever with or make it last it's unlike anything you've ever felt making it your first.
I may not have had that experience, but I definitely think it's possible. My mother's first love was my father and they have been married for over thirty years. My grandparents on my mother's side also married their first love, and I have a friend from high school who is engaged to her high school boyfriend. My love and I weren't meant to be but I think that if it's meant to be, it definitely will last.
I've been with my first love for a total of 15 years, married for 6.5. Such a relationship certainly has its challenges.
I am not still with my first love. I was an idiot. But, if I have anything at all to say about it, we'll be together in the end.
I think the only way you can know that your relationship is meant to last is if you have some sort of first hand comparison. It's best to "try on a few" before finally committing to one

I married my first love and I love him more now than ever! People who say you can never make it last with your first love, just lost theirs. But in my HONEST opinion... I think you only really have one, true love walking this planet at a time. If it didn't last and didn't work out with someone... then it probably wasn't true love to begin with. I don't know :)
i don't know if it could or could not, but my first love didn't last for spatial reasons. he's always going to be in my heart though
i wrote a post about it recently: http://kaos-calle.xanga.com/728195155/on-love-by-a-girl-who-doesnt-believe-in-love/
@sweet_imperfectionz@xanga - I completely agree with you. In my first relationship, I had said the words "I love you," but I never really felt them. Now, the relationship I'm in with my current SO is completely different in all the right ways.
I'm still with my first love :)
Well, seeing as my first love was straight... no we're not together. I still love her though.
I'm with my first SO right now, and he's so amazing. He wants to marry me. =) I believe any relationship can last if the two of you want it to.
In 4 days, I will be celebrating my second wedding anniversary to my first love. :) We've been "a couple" for a little over four years now, since our senior year of high-school. We were both of each other's first boyfriend/girlfriend, first kiss, and first love.
While we both may have had other crushes before that we "loved," we were the first time either of us had been IN love. :)
I have absolutely no doubt that we will be together forever. I know it takes hard work and commitment to make a marriage work, and we are both willing to put that in to our relationship. I am so happy to be with my first (and only) love!
im still in love with my first love, and no matter what, it seems whatever we say or whatever we do ,we always end up back together in the end of the day ! and honestly i cant say ,i never did love him at one point because i always have and that very first moment , i had felr something , in grade 9 and now i know its forever !
My first love and I together didn't have what was necessary to make it last.
I'm not.
I think they tend to fall apart more often than not, because it's all so new - everything. You learn a lot about yourself, you grow up SO much, all because of your first love.
That type of change can be quite turbulent.
But I definitely do believe that first love relationships can last; they obviously do for some people. And I think that's great. I do not have any regrets, though, and I'm happy that I learned how to get through the pain of losing mine, because it opened me up to someone new and even better for me.
I'm happy for anyone who's had happiness brought to them by another, under any type of circumstances
To be honest it all really depends on both of the people in the relationship and how much they want it to last. Sometimes people change and things don't work out and sometimes they do. You can never really tell with this sort of thing.
I've been with my current boyfriend for about 5 months now and as corny and cliched as this sounds I feel as if I couldn't ever love anybody any more than I love him. Hopefully things'll last and if they didn't then well at least i'll still have my happy memories to look back on :)
Yes.
7 years and going strong.
I'm still with my first love, for over a year now! And we are as happy as ever, each day gets better than the last and that is the truth! I suggest you read some of my latest blogs to help keep your relationship strong! Don't let the negative and often untrue things you read distract you from your relationship and have doubts. That's what will make your relationship fail!
I'm with my first love, and its fantastic. Will it last forever? Only time will tell, but I would really appreciate it if it would. We've had are problems, but we always seem to work it out in the end.
First love will always stay in your heart, no matter what. Once you love someone, there's no turning back. I'm not with my first love, because he and his family moved to the other side of the world. Actually, he's my only love now that I think about it. Still haven't had a second love, so I guess I can't compare my first love to the other loves.
i'm still with my first love. it'll be 2 years next week. :)
i"m still with them yes. It's getting harder.
