  • 6 Not-Too-Girly Drinks to Order at a Bar

I go to bars a lot. Hey, I'm young! I've warmed seats on those high-backed stools everywhere from a swanky hotel on South Beach to a dive bar on the Lower East Side to a gastro-pub in London. Accordingly, I've learned a lot about bar etiquette, and I think the most important rule is this: order a drink that's appropriate to the venue. If you're at a sports bar, for example, don't ask for an apple-tini with sugar on the rim.

But no matter where you are, you might feel embarrassed ordering a typically "girlie" drink: anything bright pink, frozen or containing Bailey's or the words "White Russian." Here are a few drink choices that, depending on your tastes in alcohol (don't order something you hate just to look cool, obviously!), will help you gain some points when the gruff guy behind the counter asks, "Hey, what'll it be?" Just don't pour them in your eyeballs.

Jack and Coke (above). A sweet yet simple drink that'll be familiar to your palate; who doesn't like Coke? Ditto for Rum and Cokes - try it with Captain Morgan.
