Have you ever watched a film where you feel so frustrated you start hurling insults at the characters and giving them relationship advice over the screen as if they can hear you?
Two Lovers did that to me.
Set in Brighton Beach in New York City, Leonard (Joaquin Phoenix) is a charismatic, emotionally troubled man who has made several attempts at suicide. He meets Sandra (Vinessa Shaw) who is the daughter of his father's business partner. She's cute and sweet - your girl next door. It soon becomes obvious that she has the hots for him but he's not really that into her. In fact, it's mentioned several times in the movie that despite her arrays of admirers, Sandra has eyes only for Leonard.
Then come Michelle (Gwyneth Paltrow) who is Leonard's neighbor. She's fiery, passionate, fun-loving, and he is instantly attracted to her. The day he finds out Michelle is involved with a married man in the law firm she works at, however, Leonard is hurt. He goes home to find Sandra waiting for him. That night, they have sex. They become an item.
Oh Leonard, you bastard! How dare you use poor Sandra like this!Even though he's officially in a relationship with Sandra, Leonard's love for Michelle does not diminish. Naturally, the latter leans on him for emotional support. She would call him late at night, asking for his opinion, begging for his advice on her affair with the married lawyer.
You've been friend zoned, Leonard! And break it off with Sandra! You don't deserve her! After Michelle breaks off the affair, Leonard confesses that he is still in love with her. He urges her to give him a chance.
WTF??? How messed up is this?Does anyone else talk to movie characters about their relationships mistakes?

I've done that. Who doesn't? lol.
When I'm like watching a involving movie or show. Usually, it's shows..like House..and it's more like..will they or won't they get together? It's normal to feel that kind of connection xD usually I can't believe how dumb or idiotic some of these characters are in movies or shows....it's just not that possible but it is.. =( very sadly true
I have been drawn in like that. And you made me curious. I just added this movie to my NetFlix queue!
i can't read books because i get too emotionally invested in the characters and the story.
/lame.
i used to yell at pam and jim to just make babies already!
...before they got together. and got married and had a baby.
I only do this in action and horror movies...sorry.
haha, season 4 of the oc i got really attached to the characters :\ i really wanted ryan to date taylor and stop being dumb. this post made me smile.
That's a successful story if it elicits such a reaction.
I've definitely done this...especially during TV shows like Gossip Girl and Grey's.
sounds realistic, this happens a lot. it happened to me. sometimes the one you want is unavailable so you waste time with someone who obviously is into you.
Um, let's talk about how I was FREAKING out watching the most recent episode of Grey's Anatomy. WOW. I've never been SO worked up about a TV show or movie. I'm generally not so extreme but I'll tell you, if you watch that show you HAVE to see that episode. That aside, I do get attatched to characters. I'm a nerd, it's fine. Lol.
I think we all do that, get so into the movie and the characters' relationship.... It's kind of like watching a horror flick and going, "Why are you going there? DO YOU WANT TO DIE?" And then in the next scene, they die. It's one of those things.. Hahaha.
I'm always contemplating about how the story should end with a bunch of "What if he/she..."I do this with almost everything I watch. On Fringe I've been yelling at Olivia and Peter to just "do it already" pretty much since the middle of the first season. (THEY FINALLY KISSED, though!)
Oh, I've done this on many occasions!
Especially with One Tree Hill's Peyton and Lucas. I always ended up screaming at Lucas not to be stupid and begging him to just admit he loves Peyton already. But I have to admit, once the characters actually "listens" to you and do what you "told them to", you feel kind of sad. Maybe we just love the drama of it all?
Oh, yeah! I do that all the time. On Lost, I was always going, "Kate, you whore, why are you kissing Jack right after you slept with Sawyer?!" Or on Doctor Who, I cried when the Doctor disappeared into a parallel world right before he could tell Rose he loved her.

Ugh....hate those kinds of books/movies/shows like that...Yes to me it is messed up.
the irony is that I'd want to watch a movie like this. hah.
Blxcmlbkmlx. He's Just Not That Into You. I was yelling at the chick the entire time that she was ruining her chances with that one Alex guy :\ And they still got together in the end too! Sooo annoyingg. Great movie, though, I did love it a lot.
Ahhh! I do that all the time! Watching movies like that make me feel like some kind of professional in relationships :P I was literally "tsk tsk"ing the whole time through Something's Gotta Give
