  • Datingish Poll: Timing Your First Kiss with Somone New

How many dates do you go on with a person before you kiss them?

I believe it depends on who the person is, how long you've known them for, and your situation. For instance, I could have a non-boyfriend who finally takes me out on a date and kissing could be a very possible option. But if I didn't know the guy at all, I would probably wait a few dates.

Of course, the right time for a person can be as soon as he or she lays eyes on someone or up to several months. However, a lot of people seem to have a rule on how many dates they go on before they kiss someone.

My current boyfriend is my first boyfriend, and most likely my last. We met online and talked for about a month, and then met in person. The day we met, we kissed a TON. It was my first real kiss, which turned into sitting on a picnic table kissing on and off for 5 hours in between talking. It wasn't even our first date yet! It was wonderful, and sometimes I wish we STILL kissed that much. haha.

I kiss long before they're my boyfriend. I take boys for a testdrive before I give them a title. I'm not going to waste my time making someone my boyfriend and waiting to kiss them - what is there is no chemistry? For me, get all that shit out of the way first before you commit to someone.

With my first boyfriend, we had been friends for forever and we waited until our second date to kiss. Then again, that was also in high school. With the last two guys I dated, we kissed on our first date. The boy where things are going well, we had actually kissed before we even went on a date so I dunno... I guess I just have weird situations haha.

I waited about three months into things before I kissed my now-husband. We definitely knew the chemistry was there, but I didn't want to rush anything.

Everyone should make sure to kiss on the first date

Given the circumstances and possible ambiguity involved in a first date, you want to send a clear message that says:  I don't want to be your acquaintance.  I don't want to be your friend.  I want to be your lover.

Of course, I do give distinction between "pre-dates" and first dates.

My current boyfriend and I met under different circumstances. I was in town visiting my sister and we were introduced to each other, and from that moment on, I kinda knew he was special........but no kiss. We started talking after I left town ( I live like 3,000 miles away from him  ) and then 3 months later, I went to visit him and we kissed at the airport. It was just a peck, but a nice precursor of what was to come......and although we hadn't gone on any dates (only group  hang outs), I knew it was the right time to kiss. We kissed lots while I was there, and it helped cement what we were feeling for each other after months of talking on the phone and the computer.

Everyone is different though and different circumstances call for different courses of action.

I'm not saying it's right or wrong but I'd say it was fairly common here in the UK to kiss on the first date - so much so that many people would presume the other person didn't like them if there was no kiss.

always first if we already like each other. i don't know if people go on 'blind dates' these days, but i definitely wouldn't kiss somebody if i wasn't feeling them. i guess i've gone out with guys before and didn't kiss them, but i already knew i never had any intentions to.

  • PhilKwon81@xanga

keep it simple.  you kiss when you want to kiss.  if the other person responds positively, good for you.  if not, better luck next time.  and there's always a next time...maybe not with the same person, but still a next time.  haha.

I kissed my husband on the cheeks at the end of our first date.  Of course we've known each other for 12+ years and we have dated back in the days too.  But if he was just someone I had met and went out on for the very first time, maybe after a few dates and if I feel it, perhaps then..

  • Murphy_Rants@xanga

I didn't really date my boyfriend. We go out and crap, but.

We were really good friends for over a year and I think we just had trouble saying we liked each other due to our extreme nerdiness. :D

I accidently bumped his hand and ended up holding it, and that's how it began. So quite literally, we were cuddling and kissing from the get-go. First on the cheek, but kisses indeed.

lovin the poll feature. very, very cool.

  • WhenHateIsTheOnlyOption@xanga

You ought to make sure the other person likes you the same way.

  • Kookoolee@xanga

I think a quick peck on first date... just to say "Yes. This IS a date... not just the kind of outing I have with my brother!"  ;D

But go for something more lingering on the second date. And so forth! :)

  • deathtemplar@xanga

Isn't it just something you do whenever you feel it's right?  If it's a rule kinda thing I feel like they're just forcing themself by date # whatever or if not they have to hold themselves back until date # whatever.  Personally I'm ok from first date/half date/5th date lol

    Anyways take care!~

  • lil_KyungMin@xanga

Dang it this is so circumstancial. Sometimes the girl I'm on a date with might want a kiss on the first date sometimes she doesn't. That's how I base when I kiss a girl; when they want to. But if it's the fifth date and we still haven't kissed then I'll have to change that then cuz that's just too long.

  • Wait_by_Moonlight@xanga

Quite honestly, if there's no kiss on the first date, I assume something is the matter.  I take the kiss at the end of the date to say not only, "I want to do this again," but also, "Hey, I'm attracted to you!"

  • Escapists@xanga

I've been friends with my current boyfriend for about 2 years. He kissed me the day before we started going out, when we were riding the tilt-a-whirl together.

The next day, we had out first "real" kiss riding home on the bus from a drumline competition.
    It was so sweet. (:

Who cares!!! My boyfriend thinks the same with me. He- is eight years older than me, lol. We met online at an age gap dating site [A_g_e_m_i_n_g_l_e @ c.//o.//m]---a nice and free place for Younger- Women and Older Men, or Older Women and Younger Men, to interact with each other. Maybe you wanna check out or- tell your friends

  • discover_hienie@xanga

i got my first kiss this week which wasnt how i expected!! i think we were just testing the waters. i wish it would have been better than that

  • sweeetstache@xanga

I can't get past the first date without a kiss -_____________-
If it were up to me, it'd be soooooooo much longer. Like, crazy waiting period. Like DMV lines long...

  • StarlitGoodbyes@xanga

I waited to kiss my boyfriend after we were officially dating for 4 months.  I figured that we weren't in a hurry, so there was no need to rush anything...

  • x_shadow_kitsune_x@xanga

My first kiss was on the second date, I think. Maybe it was the first, I can't remember... both of us have a terrible memory for certain things. My bf and I knew each other for a year before we got together, so it wasn't all that awkward... other than the fact it was my first kiss, and it wasn't his first. So it was a little awkward for me.

Truth be told, he made the first move. I'm too shy to do it myself, unless it's a sudden impulse that's too sudden and strong to hold back. =)
