After a great date, the first thing I want to do is send the guy a text message telling him how much fun I had that night. But my biggest fear is coming off like a crazy psycho chick, so the great debate becomes: When do I send a post-date thank you -- an hour later, before bed, the next day -- or should I even send it at all? In the old days, Cher from Clueless would tell me that I had to wait three days for the guy to call me, but I just don't think that's how it works anymore. Guys like hearing the confirmation of a great date as much as we do, right?
So dear Datingish, do you make post-date contact and let the person know what a great time you had? When do you do it?

The perfect thing is a simple smiley face...":)" the minute you leave each other's presence. It lets him know you enjoyed it without any long winded psycho crap. Also, the fact that you do it so quickly makes it seem less premeditated, so he can feel like it was a knee jerk reaction to the amazing time you had together and not something you deliberated over for hours. It makes you seem spontaneous and cute, not creepy.
As a guy I just want to say, yes confirmation that you had a good time is awesome. Unless you tell us, we have no idea if you had a good time or maybe want to talk or go out again. It takes a lot for a guy to put himself out there to be accepted or rejected, so some reciprocation helps a lot. Most girls I know might agree they had a good time when you drop them off but that might just be them being nice, its hard to know. Also, I would suggest a text or call (I dont like texting) the next day. some guys might think a reply right after the date is cute and awesome but others might think it is a little too much. I think I would kinda like it but not sure all guys would.
i usually expect him to text me. otherwise i'll probably wait until the next day, or not depending on how well we connected.

I would do it when you guys are leaving for the night...any other time seems to me a little childish, but then again...I don't have the balls to get the date in the first place so don't listen to me! lol
If you all have gone on a date and are both texters, chances are you have probably already communicated a bit over text, so in my opinion it wouldn't seem that weird to get a post date text. Go home, wash your face, get in your pajamas, and send him a text saying you had fun. But be a little flirty about it. After a few hour-long date you should know what charming thing to say.
I was new to the whole dating thing. He used to text me an hour or so after dropping me home to say that he had a great time. Even if it wasn't all that fun XD
I normally try to establish on a first date if someone likes me. And if they do, and if I like them, I text the day after the day after.

i usually cant help myself. within minutes of parting im already at my phone texting him. i cant tell if its endearing .... or a fatal flaw.
when i was dating, i used to just call or text the next day to let him know that i had a good time but that's all.
After the first date with my current boyfriend, I'm pretty sure I texted him once I got home to let him know I had a good time, then told him again the next night while we were having our usual daily conversation.

Simple and short. Let it be. That's how I do it.

it depends if I had a fantastic time or just a good time. if it was a fantastic time, then I can't wait to text him and I'll likely say something very girly like,"I miss you already
" but if it was just a good time, my tone isn't that enthusiastic, so I'll just say something like, "thanks. I had a good time." with no smiley and if it was a dating disaster, I probably wouldn't text him and let him wonder what happened, then he texts me to ask and I'll tell him I'm not interested or something.
Depending on what kinda of date it was and how I connected with the person. If it was an amazing date and me and the guy had a good connection then I will usually text them once I get home letting them know I had a good time and would like to see them again. When its an okay date, i wait till they text me or text them the next day. and if its horrible then I usually don't text or call at all lol
The last date I went on, which was a few days ago, i got home and went on MSN, he was online so I messaged him saying "I had a really good time today and would love to get together again sometime soon" he messaged me back saying "I am glad you had a good time, I did too, it was quite amazing, I can't wait to get together again too" We are seeing each other on Wednesday :D

I would make the guy do it. If he enjoyed it he will call or text you eventually. In my experience (not sayin its the same for everyone) guys like the chase, and the fact that they have to work for you.
I agree with most people here. I think a quick harmless text saying you had a good time shortly after the date doesn't hurt. In my case after a recent first date, I got lost and ended up texting him joking about it, so that took care of the post-date contact. He ended up calling the next day to hang out again anyway :)
