Ex Files: Once Upon a Dream

Hey, get your heads outta the gutter. I don't mean sexual dreams. I just mean those plain, almost-too-realistic dreams.See, I know I've had my share of dreams where my first ex wanders in and out. The dreams are relatively simple. Usually, my dream self will feel the urgent need to blatantly ignore that the fact that my ex is alive and/or hanging around. And usually I will try to play that "I'm doing just fine without you" card. Yeah, it's not a surprise that I would dream about this.
But sometimes, the dreams are a little more complicated. Some may have me laughing with the enemy, errr, I mean my ex, or getting innocent piggyback rides from him (SAY WHAT?!). Not too much of a shock to see that my wistful conscience likes bringing my feelings of nostalgia back into the forefront of mind, in a cruel, dreamy state.
Anyways, I don't know if it's just me, but I've had these dreams and plenty more. Am I just a total goober who can't get over a lost love? Am I just reminiscing about a first love while I sleep?
So, let's hear it! Is it weird or uncommon to have dreams about your ex? (i.e. Am I a pathetic loon?) Or do you have them too?

i don't. you must be a weird-o or not :]
I have a lot of dreams about my ex. Usually, it is because I think of him often, but sometimes they come from out of nowhere. I'm okay with them.
I literally have been having dreams about my ex-fiance nearly every night since we broke up. It's not weird.
It's normal to have dreams about anyone who has had a significant impact on our lives. You're not a pathetic loon, silly. Whether it's family, friends or an ex, they're all bound to show up in your subconscious ... Don't fret about it.
@PrettyKitten - Seconded!
I also have dreams about totally random people I'll see throughout my day, but whom I will only recall upon thinking about em consciously.
i don't know. i've had dreams where i go into the washroom. whether that means anything, i don't know.
I have them too, so don't worry. It sounds like this person had a significant impact on your life. First loves usually do. There's nothing wrong with dreaming about them. Don't worry about it.
I had a dream where I was slow dancing with the guy that I had the biggest crush on during high school. he was the one that I really wanted to go with to the prom but I went with this other guy instead because my crush already graduated and went far away to college the year before
it was weird because I don't even think about him anymore but the memories spontaneously made him reappear again.
The other night I went into a sort of sadness because one of my exes that I never see or talk to anymore, but wish I really did, was on my mind [non-romantic way, mind you]. I believe that same night, or the night before [some night near that], he made a cameo in my dream. It's all normal; no worries. ^_^
I do this all the time, mostly when I'm awake. I'll just be going about my day and something will remind me of someone. Then all of a sudden I'm just standing there staring off into space, remembering how amazing it used to be. Not exs; though; I don't regret losing the two boys I've ever dated. I miss people that were my friends.
I dream I go places and am other people. It's random, and it feels real.
I have puzzle dreams and a few others.
I once was able to have a conversation with my cat by talking into the center of his brain, and I found out that he's a terribly shy animal despite his outward appearance, and he likes me, but he wants something better. He was real polite. I'm not trying to ditch him on anyone. He's not going back to the abuse shelter either, not happy about that. The place is okay, but you never know where he's going to go to. His tail is crooked from being broken. I'm going to move him to my grandparents. I'm not giving him to mom because there are too many animals, and he doesn't like noise or a lot of company, and he's not aggressive, so he might not make the pecking order. Anyway, I asked him if he could purr whenever he wanted to? I always wondered if that was a choice for cats, and he said "sure" and purred. He's been really affectionate this past week. I didn't get a chance with the other cat. She's so stupid, and she's going on a diet because her belly is like overcoming her feet. Honestly, I'm not a cat person at all. I only got them to get them because it's something you get. I get along with reptiles. I had birds, but they were indirectly killed by my ignorant friends. I got rats to take their place. That was bad. I did train one to come on command, but they tried to eat my eyes.
Anyway
I'm concerned with having her near woods because she's so dumb that she's going to get eaten if she goes outside, so I'm thinking about giving her back, but she's already been through 2 homes. I'm going to have to find somebody who wants a distant friend. She's been abused too. She really likes me. Guilt me, man. I got a stick the other day, and she didn't twitch but purred. When I first got her, she was absolutely crazy. I went and bought multiple books and "The Emotional Lives of Animals."
I'm obviously not the best person, especially since we had a telepathic conversation, but I don't abuse animals, and now that they are apart of my life, it's like, you feel a bond. I'm concerned. This is what happens with cats. They are like disposable pets. They are distant enough that people don't feel guilty about getting rid of them or killing them. Like, I'll put them in a no kill shelter, but they'll go to person X and then they'll be A&P cats.
yes! i definitely used to have a lot of dreams about my ex even though i've been in another relationship for the past year and 8 months and have broken up with that other one 8 years ago. It was not until i emailed him and knew what was up with him and his family did i stop having dreams.
It's all about time and closure.
I've had dreams in which my exes have been in...but within the past year or so none of them have been about said exes...so...I don't know. (Although there was one involving one of my exes last week where a deadly plague was infecting humanity and you had to chop off your fingers to survive...)
I have had dreams about my exes, but they usually occurred right after our break-up, and they either died or played an extremely insignificant part in them.
i have dreams about my ex all the time. i wish it was more than my subconscious playing games with me. Sometimes I wish it meant something more.
I dreams about my exes too...I believe it is because you both were once so close and had a lot of special memories and experiences together. In a sense you subconsciously or even consciously still miss him/her and those special moments. Which is why you still dream about him/her once in a while...so I think its very normal to have dreams about your exes.
Decipher your dreams however you wish. Afterall, they are from your subconscious mind. You know what it means better than anyone on xanga. Dream on.
Whenever I start to miss my exes in my conscious brain, that's when my subconscious will start to invent stories about them. It doesn't happen unless I'm consciously thinking about them; usually it happens when I'm thinking about them right before I go to sleep. But no, you're not pathetic in the least. It's perfectly normal to dream about people in your life, especially people who were at one point (or are still) very important to you. Don't feel weird, we all do it :)
Dreams in general are weird...
Don't read too much into them.I have dreams about my ex-best friend involving all the adventures we could have together if we were still friends. I think it just means I miss having a best friend...
I wrote a post about this very subject on Datingish in January.
The gist of the 75 replies was: No, you're not crazy. Yes, it's normal.
Usually something is triggering your dreams.
I do. Not to long ago I had a series of dreams, each night was a different ex. Just us going on about our daily lives as if we were together. Nothing physical, but it was strange.
My dream about him felt real but I didn't read into it too much because its just a dream and it will never happen.
You're not weird. I totally dream about my exes, sometimes more often then my current bf. >.<
I normally don't have ex dreams. My boyfriend did and he thought it meant something hugely significant...like he needed to be with her or whatever tf. She works on trucks, so of course if he was dreaming about his truck having problems she would be in the dream...but he took it to a whole other level...which is complete BS. He can never understand simplicity in dreams. Like oh, my truck's having problems...I used to know/date her and she works on trucks. Duh. Argh. sorry that was a vent.
